Yes. I think Royal Caribbean was a mistake. I don't think this crowd is for me. I'm stuck with it now, but never again.

You'd be surprised what happens when you get face to face with the very same people that you disagree with or they disagree with you in here.  Not in this forum but in another, I had heated disagreements/discussions with some folks, met on on a ship and got along famously.  We just agreed to disagree and not be disagreeable. So, as you probably know already, you need not to be so thin skinned while in this forum and others, this one is not unique.

For what it's worth I'm probably more police with these things then I came off. I would be the first to have staff remove stuff for me to use, now I know that's a thing. But I would feel terrible if someone who can't walk barefoot like me and needs special sneakers came out of the water 5 minutes later looking for there shoes. But I do the same thing at the laundromat all the time. People put stuff in the big machines and leave for hours. I'm the first to have staff remove there stuff. I do check out who is sitting in the waiting area first and the bathroom. Just in case they are around. I just think there is a line not to cross. For people maybe 5 feet away who just walked away before you showed up. Is trying to be fair in case that is the situation so wrong before taking that next step? And I do this at laundry all the time, so I get it. But I still feel bad if I'm wrong and machine just stopped, that's why I give it 5 min and look around first.

I get it. You don't want to end up being as bad as the people who ain't even around by doing something potentially rotten to someone who may just be taking a swim. There ain't nothing wrong with trying to keep the high road and stay someplace in the middle. Way too many folks here turn every aspect of everything and everyday on a cruise into a blood sport. Please, please don't let anyone here mess up your plan's. Keep looking at the positives in what's to come. And everyone give it rest.

Guy threatened me on Reddit cruise forum, got us both lifetime banned.

Ended up meeting him on a cruise maybe 4 months later and we realized we were haters but got along famously and have planned mutual cruises together since.

If someone is required to get out of the pool every 30 minutes to re-occupy there seat for a brief time, then they are technically being prevented from being in the pool for hours. Just saying.

If someone gets out of the pool every 30 minutes just to "check" on their chair, do they really need it?

Voyager [class] has an open solarium = no heat = empty.

Yes, Anthem [enclosed] Solarium was packed on my May transatlantic.

True, I know. Was on the then new Voyager sailing #004 in 90's and Explorer #008 soon after. Since 2010 only done Radiance or Vision Class, like the enclosed Solarium and smaller Ships...at least till they are gone

I just had an idea.  The cruise line could zip-tie little 30 minute kitchen timers to every lounger - you know, the mechanical ones where all you do is twist the knob and they start counting down.  (For this purpose, though, they should probably be silent, like those hot tub safety control things.)

Anyway, so if you have a lounger, and you need to get up, turn the timer to start a 30 minute countdown.  If you are looking for a lounger, and the timer is running, then you know they really were just here and just got up to go re-beverage, or de-beverage, or whatever.  And if the timer is off, then you know that person isn't coming back any time soon and you can move their stuff.

Do not do yourself the dis-service of comparing the experiences on this forum with the potential experience on board a Royal ship.
I am confident, given an open mind upon boarding, you stand to have one of the best weeks of recent memory.

My next 100 days at sea, I’m doing it but I also am going to secretly record one random chair hog using time lapse and post it to a new YouTube channel I’m starting.  I’m going to shame the heck out of random chair hogs every day thanks to Wyze Timelapse 4K cameras!

Awesome.....

Fabulous idea until you see a pesky cruiser with a nail cutter going after the zip-ties 🙄. Next idea, do we maybe put a dye-pack on the timer that marks the towels when the timer goes off like a bank robbery (no, too much money and time involved and we might ruin the tan lines of fellow innocent passengers in adjacent chairs 🤯). I am having way too much fun with this and you started my laughter. Thanks for lightening the mood. I mean, you were, er, not serious? 😲

Happened on brilliance during the summer. Lots or Italians leaving towels. Pool attendant was told by a white shirt office to go and remove towels. You could tell what beds it was as they didnt even bother to unfold the towels!!! Was a lot of shouting Italians later on lol.

Yes I too notice only Italians claim chairs...... 🙄

Some of the replies you are reading have nothing to do with Royal Caribbean. You would get the same snarky replies on every single cruise line thread. And a lot of these posters cruise on different cruise lines. Posters on here, are a very small percentage of actual cruisers. I think you will have a great time, and try not to judge a whole cruise line, reading a few posts here. There are a lot of great people cruising, and look at that glass half full.

That's an understatement, for sure.  How many active posters are there in here that actually post opinions/challenge others and so on?  I'd say maybe a hundred or less.  That's like a gnat on an elephant's a$$.

For general consumption:

I'm sorry, people need to understand, any comment in an Internet social media site (not just cruise related) is subject to criticism, comment, other opinions, and yes, rude behavior.  It is what it is.  We all need to put our big boy/girl pants on and move on!

And BTW, I don't think challenging comments, posting opinions, presenting facts and/or links to facts is a bad thing.  As I've said many times in here, even as a 71 year old, I learn a lot of "stuff" in here, some important, some not.

Let's cruise!

And most of us are much nicer when on a cruise than when posting to CC and wishing we were on a cruise.😄😇

Hours at a time vs. 30 minutes is a big difference.  On sea days when the weather is nice, there are many more people who would like to enjoy some time on a chair around the pool deck than there are chairs for them.  Using a chair to store stuff while you spend "hours at a time in the water" is part of the reason why there aren't enough chairs.  If you were going back and forth between the chair and the pool, then your are using the chair for yourself and I don't believe anyone would argue about that.  How much time is appropriate in that case?  "Hours" seems too long, but there's no sense in sticking to some arbitrary amount of time with a stopwatch.  I think you know that if you're spending all of your time in he pool and using the chair for storage, then you are going to be considered a "chair hog".

How long is too long?  I agree that we'll probably not agree upon a number.

How about, then, asking this question:  What are you doing right now?

- If you're sitting by the pool enjoying the music or reading your book, and you get up to go to the bathroom, buy a drink at the bar, or take a dip in the pool, you're still by the pool.

- On the other hand, if you claim a chair and then go away to eat breakfast, you're eating -- not hanging around the pool.

- I'm not sure how to weigh in on staying in the pool for hours.

Although "chair hogs" isn't something I worry about, I/we don't sit out at the pool(s) any way.  However, something that is somewhat related, those that are in the casino and lean their chairs up against a slot machine while they go to do whatever they do.  If you have to leave, leave and let others pay and play.  I usually just put the chair back and use the machine, never had a problem with it.  But, I think it takes a lot of nerve to do that.

I don't enjoy the casino, so I had no idea this was "a thing", but -- yes -- it's just chair-hogging in a different venue.

Thank you for staying with us. Cruisers can tough but we all want the same results, a pleasant experience for everyone. I am sure if I was sitting in a hot tub talking with you, face-to-face, everything would be different. Conversing through words does not convey body language and syntax. So much lost in the translation.

Yes, it's hard to read tone, and I'm a really nice person face-to-face -- but I am solidly against preventing others from enjoying a portion of their vacation, and chair-hogging is not a victimless crime.  I'll say that to anyone face-to-face.

I heard that idea years and years ago.  The cruise line doesn't want to deal with this problem.

So a review just went up "Changes on Wonder

compared to other ships" quote: Also, a number of lounge chairs in the Solarium and Main Pool Area have padded seats, which are big improvements over the standard deck loungers. But you have to be an early riser to snag one of them.

My question is why didn't they ask to have towels removed? Just to clarify. Can you go up to a pool towel attendant or any member of staff and ask to have empty chairs with towels removed? Or are some staff to afraid to get involved?

That question is the proverbial "hot potato." I just said I was going to sleep and you hit the center of the target with your question. I will wake up tomorrow and maybe everyone else will have the answer. I certainly do not have the answer. I have agreed that MP is a fine, caring, young man because he has stated so on the internet. Now, you have opened up Pandora's Box. I cannot wait to read the next installment of this conversation tomorrow. 😪. Where is my electric blanky, I feel tired.

If you are convinced the towels and/or personal items are just being put there to save the chair, put the items on a nearby chair and use the chair(s).  If people come back, say you thought the items were just forgotten and give them back their chairs.  If they don’t return while you’re there, you were right.  When done using the chair(s), put their things back on the chair(s) and leave.
