I imagine personal items would go to lost and found.  If you are concerned, just take some time out of the pool at intervals.  Are you cruising solo?  If with friends, maybe get chairs together if they are inclined to spend actual time in the chairs.  If you are truly more intent on literally being in the pool for hours vs laying in the sun/shade, then maybe consider not putting your towel, etc on a sun bed as it really does prevent someone else from using it.

And no i believe people who are swimming are using the chair because they are "there in the room" if you will. I get it. Eating, basically doing anything on another deck etc really isn't there using that particular facility. Maybe it's time for lockers for the rest. Or maybe get out of water periodically, sit in chair, and go a little. Mark your spot. And no I'm not kidding. And I've noticed every time someone has attitude some of you say the same thing about not liking answers. It's your get out of jail for being rude card.

I didn't see a single chair hog on my recent Arctic Crossing.  😄

 

And not a single person in line for the water slides.  Went down 3 times while docked in northern Iceland.  🙂  Meant to go down while in Greenland, but didn't.

 

However, the flowrider was busy throughout the cruise.

I'm fine with going back every 30 min and checking in with my chair, stuff, etc. But if you just happen to miss me, don't assume I'm not around. Some of us do actually hang out all day in that area (pool to chair). Do any of you leave your stuff on chair when swimming, getting another drink, etc? I don't think you can compare that to someone who isn't even outside.

I totally agree with the bolded.  If I go to the pool and can't find a chair to put my stuff, I'll find somewhere else, OR go do something else.  I'm not going to pay attention to whether stuff sitting in a chair has been messed with in 30 minutes.

To whom do you address the question?  The lifeguard?  Those at the towel station?

I love to plant my butt in a chair, read, nap, and enjoy the music for hours.  Yes, I also get up for the bathroom, to buy a drink, etc., but it's pretty obvious when a chair is actually "being used" as opposed to acting as a place holder.  10-15 minutes should be the max; if you need to do something more than that long, give up the chair.  

 

On Explorer earlier this month, I was up early and had a prime chair -- within half an hour of my arrival, every chair in the Solarium was claimed.  And about three of them were being used.

The signs on the ships say that unattended items will be dumped at the towel station.  "Dumped" being my word, not theirs. 

 

I've sailed Disney, and -- yes -- chair hogs were a problem.

If you're going to breakfast for almost an hour, you're hogging the chair.  Said differently, if your butt is in a dining chair, you're hogging the pool chair.

Hours at a time vs. 30 minutes is a big difference.  On sea days when the weather is nice, there are many more people who would like to enjoy some time on a chair around the pool deck than there are chairs for them.  Using a chair to store stuff while you spend "hours at a time in the water" is part of the reason why there aren't enough chairs.  If you were going back and forth between the chair and the pool, then your are using the chair for yourself and I don't believe anyone would argue about that.  How much time is appropriate in that case?  "Hours" seems too long, but there's no sense in sticking to some arbitrary amount of time with a stopwatch.  I think you know that if you're spending all of your time in he pool and using the chair for storage, then you are going to be considered a "chair hog".

Thank you. This information is very helpful. Did anyone notice after the official information on 30 minutes was put up, people were still posting things saying it should be 10 to 15 minutes. I'm fine with going back every 30. But even after this was posted someone had to say 10 to 15. Like you said "we all have opinions", but I was never asking them for there opinions. Just wanted to know the rules and where stuff goes after. I did say from the start it would become a s#%/ show. And it did. And I'm 100% sure more then half think I'm not even really gonna be within feet of my seat. Because it's like you have to think the worst of people around here. My trip is not refundable, but I am no longer looking forward to it at all.

I can easily imagine why a warm Solarium seat would be coveted on a Cold Weather Cruise 🥶 (Is there an outlet where I can plug in my electric blanky?  😁). In that case, can my wife remind me why I went to a cold weather cruise to begin with? 😪😲.

A chair is a piece of furniture designed for people to sit on. They are provided because there is a high demand for people to sit on the pool deck and relax and enjoy the vacation they paid for. When you use a chair as a place to store your stuff for hours, you are preventing someone else from using it for it's intended purpose, and enjoy their cruise. How would you like it if you were prevented from staying in the pool for hours? No once is being mean to you, they are merely trying to help you understand pool chair etiquette.

Closer to $2000 due to bad weather and port days, and I celebrate that fact because it goes to a worthwhile employee.

 

On Majesty I had a guy who would invite me to come pull towels with him and I bet I paid for school for a year for one of his kids back home. He loved the $10 and his managers supported what it did for him since I acknowledged their hard work, too.

 

My next 100 days at sea, I’m doing it but I also am going to secretly record one random chair hog using time lapse and post it to a new YouTube channel I’m starting.  I’m going to shame the heck out of random chair hogs every day thanks to Wyze Timelapse 4K cameras!

If someone is required to get out of the pool every 30 minutes to re-occupy there seat for a brief time, then they are technically being prevented from being in the pool for hours. Just saying.

Although "chair hogs" isn't something I worry about, I/we don't sit out at the pool(s) any way.  However, something that is somewhat related, those that are in the casino and lean their chairs up against a slot machine while they go to do whatever they do.  If you have to leave, leave and let others pay and play.  I usually just put the chair back and use the machine, never had a problem with it.  But, I think it takes a lot of nerve to do that.  

Also, those that either just sit in a chair at a slot machine not utilizing the machine (resting and/or people watching) and those that take a chair from a machine and take it to sit next to someone else.  One chair, one machine and the chairs are not in your neighborhood park.

For what it's worth I'm probably more police with these things then I came off. I would be the first to have staff remove stuff for me to use, now I know that's a thing. But I would feel terrible if someone who can't walk barefoot like me and needs special sneakers came out of the water 5 minutes later looking for there shoes. But I do the same thing at the laundromat all the time. People put stuff in the big machines and leave for hours. I'm the first to have staff remove there stuff. I do check out who is sitting in the waiting area first and the bathroom. Just in case they are around. I just think there is a line not to cross. For people maybe 5 feet away who just walked away before you showed up. Is trying to be fair in case that is the situation so wrong before taking that next step? And I do this at laundry all the time, so I get it. But I still feel bad if I'm wrong and machine just stopped, that's why I give it 5 min and look around first.

Thank you for staying with us. Cruisers can tough but we all want the same results, a pleasant experience for everyone. I am sure if I was sitting in a hot tub talking with you, face-to-face, everything would be different. Conversing through words does not convey body language and syntax. So much lost in the translation.
