They were on display in the Lido at the Desert Station. You needed to take it around the corner to add a scoop of ice cream. I have seen some ship menus that do list them. I agree that you need to ask for things like crisps and creme brulee if they're not on menu. You should ask for anything else that you want that's not on menu. 1
Rare richwmn Posted October 14, 2022 Author #77 Share Posted October 14, 2022 A good day at sea. It is late evening on Nieuw Statendam. At this time, around 10pm, the ship is still going strong. There have been plenty of activities during the day which made it go by too quickly. Some of the highlights. There were three rounds of trivia today, 10am, 4:30pm and 6:30pm. Each had an interesting array of questions and I managed to do pretty well. Both Entertainment Staff members did a good job of hosting the trivia. All meals were very good. Normal breakfast fixed as I like it, followed by spaghetti for lunch, and a steak for dinner - all in the Lido. Tomorrow will be different. I think I have another Pinnacle Dinner tomorrow which I am looking forward to. I sat and listened to the BB King All Stars for a few minutes and they are very talented. The comic did another show which was different and again funny, then I caught a few minutes of the piano players who also sounded very good. I also made a donation to the casino, but managed to take longer than normal to accomplish it. I still have some money for later in the casino. Tomorrow will be Sydney and an opportunity to walk around a bit. Hope everyone has a great evening.

Roy I use Linux, not Windows or Mac and it has some additional capabilities. It is very easy to download the pdf which is the format the menus are stored in on the HAL server. 4

Cruisercl Posted October 14, 2022 #82 Share Posted October 14, 2022 Yesterday's day at sea was low key again. Spent some time donating to the casino and reading on my balcony. The weather was pleasant enough to read outside and the ship was moving very slowly. Watched line dance lessons on the pool deck, at lunch time. People were very fun to watch. They were quite good.😊 Eating too much....IMHO. 😋

dfish Posted October 14, 2022 #84 Share Posted October 14, 2022 I did a DIY walk around tour of Sydney this morning. I enjoyed the fresh air and the exercise. Now I am enjoying a front row seat in the Crow’s Nest. Did some reading and just relaxed. I upgraded to premium WiFi and was able to Zoom with family members last night. All is well in my world.

mringenoldus Posted October 14, 2022 #86 Share Posted October 14, 2022 Garrit and I are a.so onboard Nieuw Statendam and have had a great first week! Although we have sailed about 60 times, this itinerary had 5 of 9 ports we had not visited on previous itineraries. We took an independent tour in Quebec with only 10 others and except a brief rain shower, the weather allowed us to really enjoy this beautiful old quarter or the city. We almoast felt like we were I France. The port of Saguenay couldn’t have made us feel more welcome.Again we took an independent small group tour to the Backcountry and fjords. Once again in the afternoon, the weather cleared. We really enjoyed seeing all the different manger scenes made by local artists of different materials in a very pretty park. In Charlottetown, we did a walkabout and found the scarecrows throughout the town, had a nice visit with the local fire department administrative assistant and learned more about what the people went through from Fiona. We were grateful how quickly in the area worked to clear damage so we could enjoy the ports. This port has a very nice indoor market of local vendors and I can vouch for COWS ice cream! Today we took a HAL tour to Baddeck and Louisbourgh. The fortress offered us two activities (hot cocoa made the way of the settlers and a costumed interpreter explaining a day in the life of a soldier) The guide was very good and informative, but I remembered why I dislike the big bus cruise line tours. Too much time has to be reserved to just getting everyone on and off the bus and the bus ride portion takes a bit too long. We find this ship very comfortable and the crew is unfailingly cheerful and friendly. The cruise director is amazing in her EXC talks and very professional yet friendly throughout the day. We will be back on this ship next June in Copenhagen and very much looking forward to it.

Rare richwmn Posted October 15, 2022 Author #89 Share Posted October 15, 2022 Some views from yesterday Another good day aboard a BHB. As always, the ship's crew was friendly and seemed happy. The ship is well maintained and looks good. I missed trivia yesterday, another Pinnacle dinner with friends. Last night was salmon and baked Alaska. Both were good and the company was grand. The server was Faud, the same as the first PG dinner, and he added a lot to the experience again. I'm not sure if the other diners appreciated us, we were laughing and having a good time rather than a sedate dinner. The World Stage featured Robert Neary, who did the Neil Diamond show earlier in the week. I missed the Neil Diamond show so this was my first view of Mr. Neary. He seems to be a good singer and has a decent spiel, but IMO he is a better singer when in his own style and voice, rather than trying to imitate Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and others. Another sampling of the BB King All Stars showed again that they are talented musicians. They also seem to be enjoying themselves which normally makes the show better. Rolling Stone Rock Room was in full swing so I stopped there for a bit. The songs they performed while I was there were well done. They also seemed to be enjoying themselves. One of the servers was entertaining the audience with a dance routine that was well received. All in all, the entertainment has been very good for the past week. It will be interesting to see what they come up with for next week. 12

Cruising-along Posted October 15, 2022 #92 Share Posted October 15, 2022 Today in Halifax we’re having a semi-sea day. We’ve been here many times so for the most part are just having a lazy day. We did get out earlier and walked to the Farmers Market where I bought some flowers for the cabin. The weather is changing and rain is predicted so we’re spending the rest of the day being lazy. Dinner at the Tamarind tonight with Debbie @dfishand Rich @richwmn 18
Bxianesq Posted October 15, 2022 #93 Share Posted October 15, 2022 @KAKcruiser-we met up with a family member in Sydney who is a Catholic priest and is also the port chaplain. He said that as far as he knows, HAL and Costa cruises still want to have Catholic priests on board each sailing. Once in a while, a priest will become ill at the last minute or have another issue where it is too late to find a replacement. He has many HAL cruises under his belt-including the Voyage of the Vikings, one of the last cruises on the Prisendam, and a cruise to the Antarctica region. He got invited by a retiring captain to serve as the priest on the captain’s retirement cruise (a World cruise), but his bishop wouldn’t let him be away from his parish that long☹️ 4
Bxianesq Posted October 15, 2022 #94 Share Posted October 15, 2022 @richwmnI have heard lots of great feedback about BB King. They are talented musicians. We spent our Sydney day touring around with a family member who is a priest. We got to see a lot of beautiful scenery all over Cape Breton, toured the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, and grabbed lunch at a small local restaurant. Also had great coffee and date squares at Bean There in Baddeck. My husband and I are becoming addicted to date squares-apparently they are a thing in Canada 🇨🇦. We also got to see one of the huge Newfoundland ferries come into port. In Halifax, we took a ship’s tour of Lunenberg, Mahone Bay and Peggy’s Cove. Enjoyed a great lobster roll at the Fish Shack in Lunenberg. The first 2 towns were pretty, while Peggy’s Cove was quite windy and full of tourists. Our tour was 7 hours long-like @mringenoldus, it reminded me of why we typically don’t take ship tours because of how long they are and how much time it takes to get on and off the big busses. 5

Rare richwmn Posted October 16, 2022 Author #97 Share Posted October 16, 2022 Yesterday was a lazy day. I walked around the port area for a bit, then came in for lunch and football. A very nice dinner in Tamarind with @Cruising-along and @dfish then in for the night Yesterday was a good day for Georgia Football, the Dawgs won, 'Bama lost but Tennessee in beating 'Bama is going to be out to get Georgia in 3 weeks. Braves flamed out yesterday so not back to back championship there. 7

dfish Posted October 16, 2022 #99 Share Posted October 16, 2022 Good morning, everyone. I think I finally figured out how to post pictures that show up from my phone. We shall see as this is the test post. Yesterday I did the Walk the Ocean Floor tour to the Bay of Fundy. What a unique experience! I told Sister Sue that we were doing that again next year when she is with me. This was at the Fundy Welcome Center. Coming down the steps to the ocean floor. Lots of critters in the tidal pools. Enjoy!! 15
