Thanks I was on one last year. They have themed parties (dress like the 80's), and have bands and DJs that play songs form the 80's.

PRINCESS Sweet Pea Posted October 7, 2022 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2022 We have looked at this Shortie as a Winter getaway! I have wondered the same question. Yes, I think they will have like an 80's night in the Piazza, and things like that. But, I don't think the 80's will take over the cruise. There is a roll call. I have seen the list of entertainment booked for the cruise, and there are a couple of 80's cover/tribute bands. I will have to see if I can find that again. Of course the cruises have onboard entertainment booked, in addition to the Ships Party Band, the Orchestra, etc. This would mean that the other entertainers onboard would be limited. In other words, I don't see how they could have a notable opera singer, or duo/trio or whatever, along with those 80's performers. If you don't mind the 80's theme, that is great. If you do, then I have seen other recent topics here where I heard that it really isn't a huge thing.

john watson Posted October 8, 2022 #10 Share Posted October 8, 2022 (edited) The 1980s were dominated by modern romance era. Men dressed like Don Johnson on Miami Vice a very good style icon. Notice how he bigged himself up despite the shortness of stature problem. Some guys wore makeup but nevertheless pulled. See "Crockett's Theme" on YouTube. Probably need an outrageous tuxedo as well as casual jacket. Good luck with the theme. Edited October 8, 2022 by john watson

Thanks I posted a summary in the roll call: I'll post an edited version here since I think it adds value. It will duplicate what others have said here: I am a veteran of one of the 80s themed cruises that sailed last year (Regal, November-December) and can add a few notes on my experience and what you can expect on this sailing. My sailing was 5 nights and not the 4 this one is scheduled for. More fun in less time! We had quite a few movies and some TV shows on the VOD section. We had "A Christmas Story" and "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation", but your cruise might be too far away from Xmas for them to show up. But the other big 80s Christmas movie, "Die Hard", seems like a lock. Enjoy! There were some people who dressed in various 80s costumes (but maybe they weren't costumes to them, just ordinary clothing?), but not many Our theme was announced less than two months before the cruise, so you guys have a big advantage We had a different Bon Jovi tribute act (Slippery When Wet) who impressed me even though I'm not a Bon Jovi fan at all Our other tribute band was Rich Girl, who did Hall & Oates. I thought they were great and I'm sad that they're not on any of these cruises. ☹️ DSB was on some of the 80s cruises last year, but not mine Trivia was a lot of fun. I won twice at 80s music trivia. There were other 80s-related trivia sessions that I didn't do so well at. There was a lot of 80s background music in the hallways, common areas, and before the shows We had Carlos Oscar on my cruise; he was good, well worth seeing I had so much fun on my cruise that I booked another 80s themed cruise. Not this one, of course (though it was under consideration), but the one on the Ruby in April leaving from Galveston. *************************** Could we get trip reports from those of you luck enough to be on this cruise? Pretty please? Thank you!

We have seen them at Casino Arizona many times. I would go on a cruise just for that. But I’m not cruising right now .
PRINCESS Sweet Pea Posted October 8, 2022 #14 Share Posted October 8, 2022 Thanks! I am glad to hear that! I would want to avoid the crowded areas and events. but wonder if we could find a way to be somewhat 'safe' and check these out.

I'm not optimistic. The tribute band shows and Carlos Oscar's performance on the Regal were all in the main theater and not crowded, despite only having one show per night. They only had one show per night because we had fewer than 1000 passengers. I expect you'll have far more than that on this sailing, and even though I expect there will be two shows per night, they should pack the theater every time. PRINCESS Sweet Pea Posted October 8, 2022 #19 Share Posted October 8, 2022 Tons of availability showing, but who knows how many GTY and Drop-and-Go fare bookings there might be. Ship could be booked up more than we think.
