Phone books had addresses as well as phone numbers in all of the states that I’ve lived in.

I've worked for 'the phone company' over 36 years. One of my very first jobs was to verify street names and addresses against the phone number for every person who had a land line phone.

In the really old days, the listings were 'subscriber last, subscriber first', street address. Later, that changed to 'subsciber last, subscriber first & subscriber spouse first' Where's mr. potstech when you need him? And, of course, that was how ahnold found Sarah Conner. He tore the page out of a phone book in a phone booth, and went to each address. It was in a movie. It must be true.

I was jealous. My parents saw no reason why the four kids would need to have a phone line!
