Ocean Boy Posted December 10, 2022 #226 Share Posted December 10, 2022 How refreshing. Instead of people criticizing people's tipping, chair hogging, and manner of dress habits we have moved on to towel use habits. The evolution of topics to be discussed around here is astounding. Use the same towel all cruise long if you wish. I could not care less. I want a clean one after each shower and could not care less what anyone thinks about it. I also am rather neat and don't like clutter. Therefore, I want dirty dishes, glasses, and towels from the day removed in the evening and dirty dishes, glasses, and towels from the evening removed in the morning. That is pretty basic service. I rarely ask for anything more on top of that.🙂 9
LXA350 Posted December 10, 2022 #227 Share Posted December 10, 2022 If we compare RCL to hotel standards then they are in the 4* sector, hence there you only get once a day housekeeping service and no turndown service in addition. The Suites are more comparable to th 5* sector, so here they will not dare the cut. Looks like going forward this is what will happen all cabins up to balcony once a day and JS and above 2x a day. This will either mean that the room attenant designated to your cabin will be assigned more cabins and will have time to complete them by let's say 4PM or that afer finishing their shift they will use them for the cleaning of public areas of the ship. Can we complain about it, well seing RCL as a 4* hotel then not really. To be fair, service you get on RCL compared to most hotels even 5* still better even with a once a day cabin service, speaking on global level. As the US hospitality sector is not known for providing quality nor service. Best comparison a brand like Marriott. Go to a hotel of that brand in the US, it feels like a 2-3* hotel compared to stay in one of their hotels in Europe or Asia.

So being on vacation should be comparable to being home. Now I get it. We don't have a chef at home either so I guess a hot plate and microwave should be put in the cabins so we can eat for the week. 4 6
dianajo67 Posted December 10, 2022 #234 Share Posted December 10, 2022 (edited) I think Royal should issue every customer 1 pool towel for the week to help save the environment! Would also solve the chair hog problem as people would be guarding it with their life! Would prevent the huge rush to stock up on pool towels in the rooms to make up for the changes to room service. Expect to see trash and empty dishes etc in the hallways more frequently, especially around rooms that have 3 or more folks trying to be comfortable in such small spaces. Cruise lines should have self-service ice machines like hotels. That would save the attendants a lot of time. Just have an ice bucket in the room. Even super expensive hotels have that! Also, change the gratuity to a service charge that can’t be removed! Some of this is sarcasm btw. Rare TexasRon Posted December 10, 2022 #236 Share Posted December 10, 2022 I use a lot of extra towels when I am in spaces with smoking allowed. Extra showers to get the stench off when at casinos, for example. Let them smoke; let me rid of the smell. Also the beach resorts… I hate sand. I like twice a day service for towels at hotels and on ships. I use towels more than once at home but I do have four towels in use each week. I like towels being dry when I use them. Service is an important part of the relaxing vacation experience. The decline of service and increase in prices may dictate more of other kinds of vacations…like fishing for a week and washing my own stuff as needed!
cello56 Posted December 10, 2022 #237 Share Posted December 10, 2022 I don't go on a cruise to have the same level of service or comfort that I have at home. I go to enjoy myself and to be pampered. I love being able to have a long hot shower without worrying about running out of hot water before my husband has his shower. I love having fresh towels to use after every shower. I love having my bed made and my room cleaned and the trash taken out - all done by someone else. I love coming back to our room at the end of the night to see the cabin prepared for sleeping, and the bathroom clean and tidy with fresh towels for the morning. This is what I am paying for! Those things are all part of the cabin stewart's job. There is no shame in expecting the service that was offered when the cruise was bought. That doesn't mean that we are not polite and respectful to all of the crew on board - we are. I'm just not willing to 'make do' with less and still be charged the same amount. 13

If Royal did that, I am sure you would sign up for it. That's not a bad idea. Choices are good. 16 hours ago, Ret MP said: ... This is my thing, your milage may vary! My mileage definitely varies. If I've just stepped out of the shower, I'm clean -- I'm not sweaty, and I do use soap in the shower. The towel can be used a couple of times. However, on a vacation, when I'm paying more than I do at home, I expect fresh towels to be available any time I want one. kayguz Posted December 10, 2022 #239 Share Posted December 10, 2022 I think it's great to have a choice of once or twice a day. I have my towels refreshed once a day, but i like having my bed made and things wiped down in the morning and I like the evening turndown service. It's nice to me to return to lights dimmed, curtains closed, and we love the towel animals. Those are all some of the things that make a cruise different than my land based vacations.

Never been in an Air BnB but have no issue cleaning up after myself. On a ship I guess my options are throw the used glasses out in the passageway or over the balcony railing. 3

This conversation has absolutely NOTHING to do with people feeling 'they can't live' without their room being cleaned twice a day. It has everything to do with a major corporation selling us a product and then changing the terms of the product AFTER they have our money! Would anyone purchase a new car with four doors and then be OK if at delivery the car dealer said, that in the interest of making the car manufacturer more money they only have a two door car for you? Of course not. When you buy something - whether a vacation or a car - you expect to receive the item you bought - not a substitute of lesser value. YOU are the only one who gets to decide if that alternate item has the same or equal value. For some people one cleaning per day is fine and they don't mind - their choice. For others it will have a negative impact on their enjoyment of the cruise and is unacceptable. P.S. We leave our room neat as a pin but still want twice a day service! 5
