The Glory at least had the updated waterworks. I feel bad for the families with kids getting the Liberty. Yeah I don’t buy that the demand wasn’t there and prices were lowered. I think it was more about getting bigger ships into Texas. I was on Dream twice in 2018 and I paid just as much as I did for Breeze out of Galveston and more than I did for Freedom out of Galveston around the same time. The place with low prices is Panorama out of Long Beach. Magic and Panorama have the cheapest 7-day non-Australia cruises right now.
lennythenose Posted December 17, 2022 #27 Share Posted December 17, 2022 I’ve always found NOLA to be significantly cheaper than Galveston, but admittedly I haven’t really priced either in the last couple of years. Before when we were traveling with our kids we could get same itinerary same class for much less. Always during peak travel times (again…kids). Now I’m more open to longer trips and other ports for just the 2 of us and not tied to school schedules.

But my 2017 Freedom was cheaper than both of my 2018 Dream cruises. And my 2018 Breeze was more than my 2018 dream but those were all within $100-150 total of each other. The newer Vista in 2019 was a couple hundred more as it should’ve been. I found glory and vista to be comparable last year when I went on Vista. My question is why is it cool that panorama is consistently one of the cheapest ships in the fleet and they keep throwing newer ships at Long Beach? The cheapest 7-day I’ve ever had was panorama last year. Edited December 17, 2022 by Saint Greg

My guesses at the reasons though: -if they can get cruisers started out west, they'll get tired of the ports and fly east for the pricier cruises. -the short cruises hook people and then they book the pricier Alaskan and Hawaiian cruises -the casino is usually packed on any cruise I've been on out of Long Beach. I think the casino is packed on all cruises. It should work itself out. There’s no way Long Beach is supporting two vista class ships doing the only route they have.

reeinaz Posted December 27, 2022 Author #37 Share Posted December 27, 2022 April 2024 is still showing no cruises for the Glory and I still haven't received any emails regarding it. I called this morning and the rep looked through her ship announcements and saw nothing for the Glory. She reached out to someone else and they told her the sailings are sold out. I really find that hard to believe. But she could only repeat the information she was given.

I was trying to look at excursions away from Carnival & the site I use doesn't list my April 2024 cruise for the Glory. If they are going to cancel it, then they need to cancel it so people can make other arrangements. If they are replacing Glory with another ship, then let those who are booked know now so they can make other arrangements if needed. Very frustrating trying to plan something and hitting walls. groundloop Posted February 1, 2023 #40 Share Posted February 1, 2023 This gives one the impression that Carnival doesn't do a very good job of planning ahead, and it's going to really piss off a lot of customers.
slavens_09 Posted February 2, 2023 #41 Share Posted February 2, 2023 Seems like a pretty lengthy dry dock considering she had 1 not to long ago when she got the new paint and they expanded the casino a little and removed the old future cruise desk and replaced it with a carnival adventures area. I wonder what they are planning on doing? My guess is they are going to add a red frog pub possibly in place of the ivory club bar. Or Put the red frog in the same location it is in on the Valor and move Club O2 to the conference room on deck 4. Then put cabins in where the ivory club bar used to be. I don’t know all of that is possible in less than a month though. Any other ideas?

Nobody has airline reservations for a ship more than a year out. Moreover, Carnival has said that everyone's rate is protected and a little something is added to their OBC if they make a switch. Sometimes one simply must take advantage of drydock availability. And this is literally right during her transition from New Orleans to Port Canaveral so it makes perfect sense. No harm; no foul.

Similarly, we just got off Dream and I don't think I'd sail on her again until major upgrades were made. She literally hasn't been meaningfully touched since she rolled out in 2009. Guy's Burgers and Alchemy Bar are meaningful to me, by by far the best upgrade was the non-smoking casino annex. Carnival really needs to expand those.
reeinaz Posted February 2, 2023 Author #46 Share Posted February 2, 2023 So I tried rebooking this morning. The only 7 day sailing for the same dates was on the Celebration and apparently a 1A porthole cabin (Glory) is so different from a regular interior that Carnival doesnt consider them to be comparable sailings and they would not honor the same cruise fare. So I cancelled.
jsglow Posted February 2, 2023 #47 Share Posted February 2, 2023 So it was interesting reading back on this thread (until we got to the football part!). I've sailed out of New Orleans, Galveston and Long Beach multiple times. My personal preference is New Orleans by a long shot. I love the ability to fly-in the day before, have a great experience on Bourbon/Frenchman and then literally walk down Poydras Street to the port in the morning. The only limiting factor for me are the usual challenges associated with Western Only itineraries. As a fly-in cruiser, it's my second favorite embarkation port (after Miami) and it's not even close. Galveston very much benefits from the millions of folks on the southwest gulf who have that as a realistic driving option. Flights into Hobby are often cost effective so that is a factor I consider too.

That's why I picked this particular sailing. That and I did get a really good deal for a 7-day sailing, which there aren't many of.
