Update - visited today and Walmart shuttle bus in operation every 30 minutes from approx 09:00.

 

No queues when we travelled at midday but we are the only ship in port and only 1600 passengers and crew

How is the old Rotterdam these days? Still recognizable from HAL days? 
 

Was in Lahaina yesterday and saw her anchored. Brought back memories.

She seems to have coped very well with her change, and Fred Olsen have retained a lot of the original features whilst adding their own touches and refurbishing all public spaces.

 

As a smaller ship she is just right for the Around the World In 80 days trip we are on ….. now heading to San Francisco.

We used the Walmart bus and it was the best excursion of the cruise. The driver pointed out landmarks, discussed Hilo and Hawaii and even sang a couple of songs. 😄

We just missed the bus last month and an Ncl crew member said we could share a taxi with her. It was $14 total. Taxi held 7 So it was two dollars apiece. She even showed us exactly where to stand for the return bus from Walmart. Wonderful NCL crew as always.

Is there really just a Walmart bus?  I heard about the Robert's Hawaii Bus every 30 minutes.  
Your trip to Walmart sounds great!  🙂

The Walmart bus is the Robert's Hawaii Bus, that is who Walmart contracts with.

 

I don't understand why Walmart Kauai hasn't contracted with Robert's Hawaii too to resume a shuttle. They would get great business out of it. On previous (pre-Covid) Hawaii trips Walmart did have a shuttle and lots of passengers from Princess used it.

No more walmart free shuttle bus at Hilo port.

 

Walmart stopped the Roberts Hawaii bus.  We were here today.  Taxi about $10 to get to Walmart.

 

There is a free shuttle to the Marketplace in Hilo town.

 

Not anywhere near Walmart though.

Is it walkable? The one towards Chinatown has closed. There is still a Ross Dress for Less walkable from the ship towards Chinatown. Maybe at the shopping centre but that’s 3mi/5km.

The closest, that I know is behind Ala Moana shopping center, about 3 mi?  If you’re 20, NP.  Lol

There is a free shuttle to Hilo Hatties in the shopping mall, which WM is behind that, a few blocks.  We may just Uber if we need it or go to ABC in the mall.

Remember that there is a Walmart 2.2 miles from where the POA docks at Kahului Harbor on Maui, and a Costco about 3 miles from the harbor.  Ross Dress for Less and TJ Maxx are also in the area, as is Long's Drugs and Walgreens.

Update:  The Honolulu WM that was close to Ala Moana shopping center is closed.

They moved the location, not really close to the Pier.  We went to Ala Moana shopping center to Longs/CVS and an ABC store instead.

We were there in May and walked to Ala Moana (foof! Hot!) and then took an Uber back. That’s enough time in the sun!

I've heard nothing about the Walmart at Ala Moana closing. Their website shows the store at 700 Ke’eaumoku Street being open until 11PM tonight.
