Friend of mine is on Arcadia.  They arrrived at Freeport with another ship arriving shortly afterwards.  Both ships have been refused entry and are leaving.   Will update when I know more.

Looking at a shipping cruise tracker a few minutes ago it seems to still be docked there at present alongside the Margaritaville Paradise. That doesn’t of course mean they let anyone off.

It will be interesting to know why in due course.

Yes, but they wouldn't refuse entry to two ships for that - would they?  Edit, just googled it, they just might.  Spirit of Discovery was denied entry to Gib for the same reason a year ago.

Have read that they’re refuelling and then off to Fort Lauderdale. Hope they can get off there, poor things ☹️

Were you also a Stewardess.  That's who I am talking to on her own page on FB

Crikey, they’ve been at sea for 9 days. That’s a stretch, even for those that like sea days. I expect most people were keen to have a walk onshore

Yes, that's just what she said.  Dying to get off and enjoy the Bahamas.

Saw a tweet from someone onboard the Arcadia 2 hours ago asking P&O why they weren’t allowed off the ship as they had been at sea for 8 days and dying to feel dry land. No mention of Norovirus.

The Arcadia has now left Freeport and is about 40 miles away doing 12 knots in a calm sea, under  a clear sky and in  temps of about 24˚C. She was to go west to Fort Lauderdale and was expected there tomorrow morning but she is currently sailing in the opposite direction.

How accurate this is I don’t know, but it looks authentic:

The CDC is investigating a Norovirus Outbreak linked to the P&O Cruises Arcadia from December 29, 2022 to January 3, 2023. 84 passengers have reported being ill during the voyage out of a total of 1,986 (4.23%) passengers onboard. of the 818 crew members, 10 have reported being ill during the voyage, that is 1.22% of all crew. The predominant symptoms are vomiting and diarrhea.

The Arcadia current location is at the North West Atlantic Ocean en route to the Port of Freeport in the Bahamas.

The gastrointestinal illness cases reported are totals for the entire voyage and do not represent the number of active (symptomatic) gastrointestinal cases at any given port of call or at disembarkation.

In response to the outbreak, P&O Cruises and the crew aboard the ship reported the following actions:
- Increased cleaning and disinfection procedures according to the ship’s outbreak prevention and response plan
- Collected stool specimens from passenger and/or crew gastrointestinal illness cases
- Notified embarking guests of the situation onboard and encouraged illness reporting and good hand hygiene.

VSP monitored the situation and the ship’s outbreak response and sanitation procedures.

Norovirus is very contagious and is easily transmitted from person to person most through the oral/fecal route. Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces.

In case you experience vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

I'm pretty sure that it's authentic. A number of ships in different lines have been significantly affected by this virus in recent months... many cases mentioned in reviews and recently one ship (not) P&O delayed to give time for a "deep clean." Sadly looks like it may be time for us all to take as much care of ourselves as we can... when all we really want is a relaxing holiday.

My brother runs a cleaning business, one part of which specialises in deep cleaning, he has said to me numerous times you won’t be able to deep clean a cruise ship in a few hours when infected by Norovirus it survives on surfaces, including carpets & curtains for up two weeks.

Years ago we were on Oriana when there was a lot of cases of Noro.

Extra cleaners were flown out to Lisbon, our last of call before Southampton.  Might have even the port before Lisbon.  We could see the cleaners going about the business all the way back.

Can't remember the name of the venue, the little eatery near the pool - not the buffet- was closed so that it could be used to prepare meals for those who had been struck down with the Noro and had to isolate in their cabins.

I did BtoB Xmas and NY on Arcadia. Embarkation between the two cruises was delayed for deep clean. I was asked to leave ship or stay in cabin while cleaning in process on Dec 29. However, Norovirus still caused problems on NY cruise.

Can't have been helped by the reported plumbing problems assumedly.  The trouble with norovirus is it hangs around. Hopefully it will be sorted by this new deep clean.  Interesting the Margaritaville ship was denied too. The Bahamas were very tight on coronavirus too so appear very cautious in their approach to any illness/sickness.

It's a worry for those of us booked on her following her return from the Worldie. Sadly seen this a lot over the years including the Oceana's second cruise 2001 where all passengers including those of us that had just flown over to join her were taken off the ship, think Fort Lauderdale and put up in hotels for two nights while they cleaned through this brand new ship.

I haven't heard from my friend today on FB, but she had mentioned the noro before they were denied entry.  Many cases on board.

I see they were in Fort Lauderdale, I think yesterday, were there any problems going ashore there?
