Jazz on 4 clubs on Oasis class being eliminated.

Yes,  Irina from Good Vibes quartet told us the same thing when we sailed Harmony for NYE. This was our 2nd time seeing them as we enjoyed them on Oasis in April.

Jazz on 4 is one of my favorite attractions on Oasis class ships. Very disappointed when I heard the news. But I understand the move, as most nights Jazz on 4 rarely had a crowd.

Some of the best music/musicians can be found playing in here. Will be nice to see them playing in the Music Hall and or Dazzles. Larger crowds of ppl being exposed to some very talented musicians.

NOW:
If they tell me Frankie and the Dreamers are gone, I will never cruise RCL again.. LOL!!! 🙂. J/K

You quoted family venues and I stay by my statement even though it’s called entertainment place.  Most of the venues other than ice is adult.

No, I said, "the entrance to the Jazz venue is in the entertainment neighborhood  where hundreds, including young families, at a time congregate to get into various venues".  I never said, "family venues".

I stand by my comment, "hundreds, including young families, at a time congregate at the various venues".

I believe that at the 5 venues below (although, I believe On Air is one deck up), all are available to young families unless specifically for adults only and young families can and do congregate while waiting to get in or just socializing.

When the sun goes down, Entertainment Place lights up. Located close to the action-packed Royal Promenade, this is your go-to spot for the hottest nightlife onboard every Oasis Class ship. Think live jazz and blues at Jazz On 4, a speakeasy cocktail lounge inspired by prohibition-era Chicago, late night belly laughs at the comedy club, karaoke sessions at the On Air Club, and dazzling performances both onstage in the Main Theater and on ice in Studio B. Entertainment Place also serves as your gateway to Casino Royale℠, so feel free to step inside and place a bet if you’re feeling lucky.

So the music hall is being ripped out and there will be no club or live band spaces onboard the ship at all? Interesting.....

There still is Boleros, the Music Hall & the Disco. We go dancing every night & not once have we ever danced in Jazz on 4.

Rccl will lose customers if they do any severe drop to live music . Entertainment is the reason we cruise rccl.

One of the most popular events on the ship is nothing but canned music

Main theater is quite close. Line usually ends just past elevators in front of Jazz

To answer the occupancy question we were in Theater waiting for Mama Mia to start and there was a ships officer-hotel side I think-4 stripe it looked like and I asked her. Not enough families using triple occupancy to boost it to technical full. level. Sometimes Guest Services will tell you. Sometimes CD will tell.   I really feel that Royal is trying to force or attract only people that all do the same few things-no room for different desires. Even if you do not like Country you have to admit that there is at least a few people in Texas  that do. Jazz lovers are a lot smaller group, dancing is gone-no floors. We had a group of 250 polka dancers on board. No floor so they floored over the ice rink for them. Condensation makes it impossible to slide your feet, and it does not work. Floor in Dazzles is glass-pretty, but no slide. Boleros has some type of tile stuff. Dance floors are made of wood. Period. That is for real dancing-not just standing and twitching. Hasn't been part of Royal for a long time. Why we do Princess when we want to dance-ballroom, country, Latin, etc. But I digress.

I'm so disappointed, we really enjoy this venue, we'd spend 1-2 hours each night there as a way to unwind from the day. Such a great vibe and ambiance. I can see it working in Dazzles but part of the charm of deck 4 is how "cozy" it felt!

  • 3 weeks later...

Since they have effectively killed the Diamond Club...maybe it would make more sense to move the Casino there? It is actually a few steps closer to the main casino than the Jazz venue. Give D+ access to the Suite lounge for those who just have to have the free coffee machine and light snacks in the evening.

Here is an idea, If Royal wants to put a money making casino in a place that is not crowded and at same time reduce live entertainment then convert the theater on Oasis when cats is playing. Nobody will miss that 😁

I think the issue there is that nobody would want to gamble while the show was playing - too grating on the ears.

Give D+ access to the suite lounge?  Are you aware that on many sailings Pinnacle members don't even have access to the suite/concierge lounge.

Wood on ship is bad.

However, I believe the ships prior to Oasis all have wood floors in the aft lounges

Yeah, but that's hardly just a boombox playing 70's music.  It has all sorts of live entertainment with the show, from the CD, staff, dancers, videographers, and the light show...

If the plan is to make the Jazz club a non-smoking casino and then turn the entire existing casino into smoking then this will be a step down IMO. The size of the Jazz club is not even half the size of the current non-smoking section!

On top of that, one of the biggest compaints I have is the smoke from the smoking side of the casino can be smelled in other areas like the dining room and in the aft starboard elevators where they bring the smoke smell all the way up to the higher decks (I could smell it on deck 12 on our last cruise). I always take the port side elevators in the aft for this reason. If they expand the smoking to both sides of the casino then the smell in the other areas of the ship will be even worse and you'll have to walk thru the smoking section to get to Entertainment Place or go up a floor and down.

Expanding the smoking section in the casino would be a big mistake and result in a lot more complaints. I really hope this is not the plan.

Wonder still has a non smoking side, for whatever good that does.

This, is the way

This is extremely disappointing news, as the Jazz venue was one of the draws for me on the Oasis class. I loved unwinding with a little jazz every evening.

Just got off a Celebrity cruise last week. Hubby and I went to watch their jazz quartet at one of the venues. They played a Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson song before we gave up and walked away. I'm no musician, but I do recognize the difference between jazz and R&B. At least Royal had that one right.

On a positive note, their casino was delightfully smoke free.

But, the younger folks are getting poorer and poorer. Yes, some, a very few are strongly advancing, no doubt.  My opinion - They need to keep going after the old money.  The younger folks are hanging on by a thread.

The idea that young folks are getting poorer seems odd?   Relative to who?   So only young folks are getting poor while other age groups aren’t?   Is that the argument?  If so, what data are you using to make that claim?   If the idea is we are all losing right now, we’ll, that is hard to argue against.  But older people are probably paying the price as much as any group.  Fixed income, high need for healthcare, and difficulty or total inability to work is far worse than being young and poor.  Almost all of us were young and poor at one point.

I’m guessing young folks today are doing better than 90 years ago?   Or what about late 60s-70s?   Or what about the mid to late 2000s?   Many times young folks had it hard.  They usually came out of it just fine as an a few group.

Sailed Ovation in Sep,Quantum in Oct.  DL was packed every night, Other than the first night the rear doors in the DL were opened into the music hall which was used as overflow. DL was pretty busy in the day time filled with people reading and game playing. On Quantum there was a good offering of breakfast items, every day a good variety of sandwiches for lunch.  HH appetizers were non stop.

As a jazz drummer ( as you can see in my larger photo) I feel your pain. Jazz is jazz, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder fall under Pop music. When I'd go to Jazz on 4 I would have expected to hear just jazz music. We like the Promenades on the bigger RCI ships, something that none of the Celebrity ships have. If they did we'd be sailing on them.
