St Vincent or Roseau?

Hi,

We are trying to decide between 2 itineraries which are exactly the same with one exception. One includes St Vincent the other Roseau.

Has anyone been to both and can offer an opinion on which is the nicer port or are both very similar? We like to potter around the local town, visit gardens and maybe take a taxi to a beautiful beach.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

St. Vincent has a very old botanical garden near the town center that's worth a visit. There are other nice gardens and beaches that you would need to take a taxi to, or which can be visited on an excursion. There is a lot of poverty in St. Vincent and the downtown area is perhaps not the best city to potter around in if you're used to tourist-oriented ports like St. Maarten, St. Thomas, etc.

There's very little in Roseau near the cruise ship dock.

Rouseau is on the island of Dominica. Not a good port for town, as it is very, very poor and the town there is quite shabby . The island itself is lovely and reminded me of Maui. I also thought St. Vincent was quite nice. We did the botanical garden there as well as an island tour. I would be happier wandering around the port there than at Rouseau

Have not been to both...

Rousseau also has a bontanical garden.( small)  or did when we were there quite awhile ago.  The whole island is a natural wonder.

We took a very long ship's tour which is the best way see this lush, beautiful place... The town did not offer much..there was a run down restaurant,

(No burgers, but served pork), a few shops,  and a small  outdoor market type area along the pier..spices etc.  Things may have changed????

Don't bother deciding. We chose our March 2024  Silhouette cruise because we wanted to go to St. Vincent and not Dominica. We don't like Dominica. It was devasted by a hurricane several years ago and hasn't recovered. There is nothing in the town. We tried to spend money there feeling sorry for the people and trying to stimulate the economy but it was very hard to do. We just got a notification from Celebrity about an itinerary change and St. Vincent was being replaced with...you guessed it...Roseau, Dominica. The itinerary on the X website still shows St. Vincent. We will stay onboard the day the ship visits Roseau, Dominica.

We've done both but St. Vincent only once. It was 2010. We hired a local driver and told him we wanted to go to end up at Wallilabou Bay and take a different route back to the pier with lots of places on the way up and back for kodak moments. Our round trip with all the stops took about 5 hours. Of course we wanted to go to Wallilabou Bay as scenes from the Pirates of the Caribbean, Curse of the Black Pearl were shot there.
