flamingos Posted March 9, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2023 The owl hitched a ride on the Symphony of the Seas cruise ship and joined passengers for their two-week holiday. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission sent a biologist when the ship returned to help get the bird off the ship before the new passengers embarked for their trip to Mexico. https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2023/03/08/cruisin-for-a-hoo-liday-owl-caught-on-royal-caribbean-ship-in-florida/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=snd&utm_content=wkmg6&fbclid=IwAR0iNKUS4B-p6R0awouejqR9qrU4ngOGBAJx3iyxGmbNTGWoOcJ4AADgqD0 6
Starry Eyes Posted March 9, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) How many times must we remind guests with special dietary requirements to contact special needs department before embarking on their cruise? 🤣🤣🤣 That burrowing owl likely left the ship quite hungry. soremekun Posted March 9, 2023 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2023 Perfect. It probably helped keep down the mice in Central Park. 2

smokeybandit Posted March 9, 2023 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2023 "FWC said the owl’s normal diet of insects, reptiles, birds, frogs and rodents means a cruise ship is not an ideal long-term habitat." Great, another passenger complaining about the lack of good food on board. 1

Rare DaKahuna Posted March 9, 2023 #8 Share Posted March 9, 2023 But the most important question -- Did he give the staff extra gratuties before leaving? 1
soremekun Posted March 9, 2023 #9 Share Posted March 9, 2023 Good job @flamingos A brief moment of levity. We are all privileged to be able to cruise. It's good to just poke fun at things once in a while.

SilkySal Posted March 9, 2023 #11 Share Posted March 9, 2023 On one of our cruises last year, a small hawk flew into a window on the pool deck and attempted to leave out of a window on the other side but slammed into a closed window, then fell to the floor. We placed a napkin over the bird to see if it was ok. It was breathing but unconscious. A wildlife rehabber just happened to be on board and asked to see the bird. We handed the bird to her to check it for injuries, and it seemed to have no injuries. She took the bird to the upper level of the pool area to wait and see if the bird would wake up. After several minutes, the small hawk woke up, so she sat it down on the open deck, where it flapped its wings and flew upwards, circled the ship as if to say thank you, and flew back to land. So glad it survived!! 3
RFerrington Posted March 9, 2023 #12 Share Posted March 9, 2023 We saw the owl on our SY cruise ! It was unbelievably cute. We were dining at Chops and it came hopping by the window, looking directly at us with those huge eyes. So sweet.
clackey Posted March 10, 2023 #13 Share Posted March 10, 2023 We had a pair of morning doves cruise from Mobile to Cozumel. I have picture somewhere. Too lazy to fly south, I guess. 1
