Rare TigerB Posted March 16, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2023 (edited) Shouldn't that read, 'Xavier launch ceremony' or 'Our Via launch ceremony' ? 🙄 Yes, that is what is making this car crash more bearable, the live subtitles.😂. Poor Ludlow indeed.🤭 Edited March 16, 2023 by TigerB

Rare Host Sharon Posted March 16, 2023 #4 Share Posted March 16, 2023 The subtitles were hilarious. The rest of it excruciating. Just my opinion. I mean - a cooking lesson in a naming ceremony? And no blessing. 4

Froxfield Posted March 16, 2023 #8 Share Posted March 16, 2023 I am afraid I found it pretty cringe inducing. Superlative upon superlative description delivered with little sincerity, mediocre singing etc., etc! If I didn't already know that I enjoyed the Iona product (and had bookings I am looking forward to on both Iona and Arvia) this may well have put me off! Much kudos to the prime minister of Barbados who was short and to the point and knew when to stop! Olly Smith did his bit well.
CCFC Posted March 16, 2023 #9 Share Posted March 16, 2023 Had to laugh at the auto subtitles changing Arvia to Our Beer! 2
swanseaboy Posted March 16, 2023 #10 Share Posted March 16, 2023 I thought it was absolutely fantastic!! They are definitely aiming for a younger audience. Good on 'em. I can't wait to board Arvia on Saturday 😃
Britboys Posted March 16, 2023 #11 Share Posted March 16, 2023 Mixed reaction on social media. Some loved it some thought it was very poor. Probably just as well I didn't bother to watch it...
CarlaMarie Posted March 16, 2023 #12 Share Posted March 16, 2023 I did not enjoy it. Compared to Iona's naming ceremony, which I thought was classy, simple and stayed true to the importance and tradition of the ceremony, I found this to be a huge PR exercise and as @Froxfield has said with very little sincerity. I know people say they are trying to attract a younger audience, but how young? I am mid thirties and starting to realise how much of a traditionalist I am!
showingdiva Posted March 17, 2023 #13 Share Posted March 17, 2023 The subtitles stole the show. Otherwise, all a bit odd. Anyone lurking on YT may want to search the highlights of MSC Virtuosa's naming ceremony in Dubai (also retrospectively of her coming into service) in comparison.
Rare Interestedcruisefan Posted March 17, 2023 #14 Share Posted March 17, 2023 Olly Murs did well Prime Minister of Barbados - she was great Didn't like the approach from Nicole - who kept referring to it as "my ship" Because as far as I'm concerned its our ship!

Britboys Posted March 17, 2023 #18 Share Posted March 17, 2023 P&O has posted quite a few short clips on their social media pages, including one of the Captain & Godmother on the Bridge. To say her dress is revealing would be an understatement. One wag has posted a reply saying how good it was that Phil & Grant Mitchell came along... 😂. Capt. Camby really doesn't know where to look in the photo.......

Camberley Posted March 17, 2023 #24 Share Posted March 17, 2023 Oh that was just cringeworthy, indulgent rubbish for 99.9% of it. How to reassure potential punters there is no fear the brand is too high-end! But I did rather enjoyed it for the sheer tackiness value.
wowzz Posted March 17, 2023 #25 Share Posted March 17, 2023 Well, according to the P&O official social media page, everyone who watched it think it was the best show since the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony !
