Quick question -- bringing wine and champagne on board -- can I pack in a carton and check with the porter at the terminal?

Planning to bring 6 bottles on board this Friday for our NCL Gem cruise to Bermuda. Do I have to carry it on myself or can I leave it in the box and just label it with my room number like the rest of my luggage? Any insight is greatly appreciated!  TYIA.

Entirely too great a chance of breakage!

Have you ever watched the luggage being loaded and/or off-loaded?

While I can’t find it in writing, any wines found in Checked luggage should be confiscated. The screeners have no way of telling if it is wine or spirits. And if it is wine, they have no way of telling if you need to pay corkage on it. If sent to the Naughty Room, you’ll need to wait in a [long] line at security on embarkation night to get it out.

My understanding is that wine must be carried on.

It has to be carried on, you cannot check it with the porters.

Has anyone a definition from NCL of what they define as wine?   Does it include Champagne, Port, Sherry?
