We bought 100 shares with Hargreaves Landsdown a month back.

E mailed P&O yesterday for our Jan 24 cruise, reply today that OBC has been applied. HL supply a pdf that I attached...so £150 OBC

Princess different story. E mail sent well before the cut off but nothing else heard, they won't answer the phone and the cruise is 11 days away.

P&O appear to be getting a grip of things now aggressive pricing, decent customer service.

You probably already know this but. Princess have a different email address to P&O.

Interesting - can you let us know how you get on.

Got an email back from the TA within an hour saying that they had made the request to P&O. Sounds like it won’t be any quicker than how you do it!

I thought it was a Carnival UK e-mail address that you sent all requests to.

See above email address. Have you sent to the correct one.

We have enjoyed shareholder obc from P&O, Cunard and Princess. Princess was the only one we had any problem with but I think was because we allowed HL to apply on our behalf and it was sent to the wrong email address. Since then I have applied myself. This morning I applied using the Carnival email address for an October P&O cruise. Within the hour I heard back that it was accepted and 20 mins later a new invoice from our TA detailing the increased obc popped into my inbox. Couldn’t complain about that service.

Interesting that they applied the shareholder OBC 3 months early, as their rules say you can only apply after the balance due date, which for an October cruise would be July. It would certainly make life easier being able to do all future cruises in one go.

Indeed mine has been applied for a Jan 24 cruise.

I managed to get through to Princess yesterday by phone and they confirm $100 OBC has been applied but no e mail to confirm. I've just spoken to my TA and they've confirmed and applied it to the booking.

So thanks to the advice on here we have an immediate return of £230 on £700 worth of shares . I bought the shares in my wifes name as she's going with her mum next week on Princess ($100) and we're both off next Jan on Arvia (£150). P&O gave us £600 OBC for that cruise, so £750 should cover drinks. Happy days !....that said the share price is still falling but I'm not complaining.

I don’t have any Carnival U.K. shares, but as we are now commencing cruising in the post-Covid era and the share price is still low (£7 per share versus around £30-40 per share when we last cruised Pre Covid) I am thinking that it may be worthwhile. As I understand it, you need 100 shares, so an outlay of around £700?

We have 3 cruises booked with P&O this year (2 x 14 night and 1 x 7 night) and a 14 night cruise with Cunard in Spring 2024 so, if I understand the shareholder benefit correctly, we would get most of our investment back via OBC within just 12 months?

Do you have to have had the shares for a minimum period (3 months?) before you can apply for the OBC benefit? I’m wondering if I’m too late for our July cruise? Are there any other qualifying conditions that mean that, if I buy now, may prevent me from getting OBC?

My biggest question / concern is over bookings that have received discounts, as this seems to be a disqualifying factor? All our bookings are via a big cruise specialist TA that many of us use, and all have a discount (albeit not a huge one). Having done a bit of Googling, it would appear that some Carnival brands have started refusing shareholder OBC unless the booking was made at the full advertised rate. Does this ring any bells with anyone? I don’t want to buy the shares and then find that we can only get the OBC by booking direct at full price. Thanks.

Just got back off a cruise on Ventura. Got the £150 OBC as I hold 100 Carnival shares. Bought these several months ago at £6.99 per share so an outlay of just over £700 due to purchase costs. Go again next year on a 19 night cruise so another £150. whilst I am aware OBC isn't actually worth £150 as items bought onboard whether clothes, dining, shore excursions etc are all subject to a mark up which will be profit.

Apologies if it’s been mentioned and I have missed it. What is the min amount of shares that you need? And is it in P&O or Carnival etc?

Carnival ordinary shares. Now around £6.70 per share. One hundred needed to get OBC. This varies from £30 to £150 depending on the length of your cruise. If you have a tier in the Portunas club, we a Caribbean tier you won't of course get any further discount as you are using OBC.

Thanks for your fast reply and help.

finally I have a cruise booked later this month and Sept. Do you have to let the booking team know at the time of booking or can you call them whenever to get them to add it on?

You have to inform the cruise company of your shareholding. They state at least 4weeks before cruise but has been stated by some they applied later and was granted.

You can call anytime once you have the shares. However they say no earlier than 90 days and no later than 21 days before sail date.

My shares are held with Hargreaves Landsdown. I contacted the in November for the cruise in early March, but due to the heavy volume of work they didn't inform P&O of my holding until around February time. But there is a limit to the time between telling P&O about your Carnival shares holding and your actual cruise. Best to check with them.

Unless someone knows differently, you cannot call them. You send an e-mail with details of your cruise, booking ref etc together with proof of share ownership.
