14 Day vs 2 7 Day (B2B)

Guess I misunderstood all the posts I quoted.  The cruises I referenced were both 14 day voyages.

Are you comparing a straight 14 day cruise that does not return to Fort Lauderdale in the middle? Or are you meaning that you can either book a B2B seven day or book the B2B seven day as a 14 day? There’s a difference between those. For the first one, I mentioned, the advantage is that you get to see further away islands because you don’t have to return to Fort Lauderdale in the middle. If you’re talking about the second one, though, there’s truly no difference because you will earn 2 credits no matter what, since they are technically separate cruises. It really comes down to which way is the better price for you. Actually, now that I think of it, there would be 1 advantage to booking as 2 separate cruises…if you want to book different room categories for each one.

Usually more cabins are set aside for the 7 day voyages than the 14 day, so usually more to choose from if you book as 7 day segments.

We found that there is more flexibility when booking as two rather than one. This may not be important to you.

Your medallion will be valid the entire time you are on board.

No matter how booked your on board folios will carry over and you will receive one statement at disembarkation.

If booked as a 14 day you will have the same cabin for the entire time. If booked as two 7 days search for cabins that are available for both and select one of those.

It is a fairly easy process to change cabins on turn around day, in case you have to do so.

No matter how booked if your turn around day is at a U.S. port (Whitter excepted) then you will have to be processed through immigration on that day.

As others mentioned, cruise credit(s) for each leg no matter how the cruise is booked.

Can you please tell me how is Whittier an exception? Is it that we don't have to be processed through immigration? Thank you!

We've booked a 29 day itinerary. It was booked as a single cruise and it only shows one voyage number on the booking confirmation. When I go into my Captain's Circle account I can see that we will receive 3 credits for this voyage, so I assume it is actually a B2B2B but I have no idea where the segments start and end.

Sometimes is pays to book as separate trips even though you have to return to Ft Lauderdale. It does have advantages.

We love the Circle Caribbean cruise. Not having to go back and waste a day in FLL is worth it for us to only get one cruise credit.

 Also, there are many people who don't care about cruise credits as it doesn't mean anything after you reach a certain point.

That’s right, for sure. The only thing people seem to track is whether they make the most travelled list so they can go to the luncheon.

That's about the only thing we ever stopped by for and never takes more than 2 minutes. Some people just love to talk forever.

Piece of cake.  Search cruises on Princess.com.  Select Asia and Diamond and all months showing in 2024 that match Asia and Diamond.

 

This tells me your 29-night voyage is the one departing Tokyo on Sep 4.

There are three other voyage lengths offered, all departing Tokyo on Sep 4:  20, 22, & 24 nights.  Presumably at some point they were selling shorter voyages after 20 & 22 nights that could be cobbled together to make 29 nights.

One thing to consider when deciding how to book a cruise such as 1 14 day or 2 7 days is impact on shareholder and Veterans obc. 1 14 day is 250, 2 7 days is 200 ( 100 for each).

 

 currently on for 22 days. I booked as a 14 day and 8. got 350 for shareholder and 350 for veterans. Another couple on the same cruise booked  as single 22 say cruise and only got 250 for each.

i understand B2B would give 2 cruise credits vs only 1 for the 14 day.  Any other benefits either way?

We just did a 14 consisting of 2 - 7 day B2B in the Caribbean on the Caribbean. I wouldn't do it again since the entertainment repeats in the second week and 85% of the passengers change for week 2. We had to leave the ship at the home port - FLL - for 6 hours during turnover. They did take us to a mall. Yes, we did get 2 credits for the cruise.

Were they doing enhanced cleaning or some other unusual event? In FLL the normal process is for all b2b passengers who do not want to leave the ship during the turn around day meet in the theater at a set time, are escorted off the ship, through immigration, then back onto the ship  Maybe 30 minutes total.

That's the exact same procedure that we have encountered on our B2B's on Carnival, Celebrity and RCI.  The one time we did it in San Pedro on the Discovery we had to go back out onto the street and back through security with all of the new cruisers.  That was a pain.

This is not usual. Normal is all passengers that wish to remain on board must leave the ship in a guided group with a staff member, be processed through immigration and then re-board. You never leave the terminal. B2B passengers have the option of disembarking anytime after disembarkation has begun up to around 9:30am. Passengers selecting this option may re-board anytime after general embarkation has commenced.

In your case there must have been some operational reason why you could not board for 6 hours. Cleaning, Coast Guard inspections come to mind.

I'm booked on a 14-day Mediterranean cruise on the Sun Princess in June, I didn't even realize when I booked the 14-day cruise that this cruise was also sold in 7-day portions as well. So, my question is this treated like a back-to-back cruise when we get to the port on the 7th day, or can we just go ashore at port like any other normal port day?

These cruises are in Europe. Turn around day should be just like any other port day. Get off and on as you wish. You will have a single medallion and one on board account which closes out on your disembarkation day.

Thanks for the reply That helps a lot! I'm guessing this day will be more hectic than most port days with people and luggage trying to disembark and with new embarkations, any advise?

Just enjoy the day. The lobby areas may be busy as those disembarking will be gathering in a condensed time period. If you booked a tour just follow the instructions. It will be like any other tour. Just make sure you don't book a dis-embarkment tour. These tours normally drop you off at the airport. You probably will receive some information in your cabin, make sure you read it and carry whatever documents, if any, are required. You should receive an intransit card. This card allows you to go to the front of any boarding line in the terminal. Depending on the port your re-boarding door may be the same as new passengers or it could be separate. I have had it both ways.
