Gaynors Posted April 28, 2023 #27 Share Posted April 28, 2023 Wow...we didn't have anything like that on the Connie on the southern route. Weather and seas have been wonderful the last few days. Here's the current info as we are off Africa heading towards Cadiz.

LadyBerard Posted April 28, 2023 #29 Share Posted April 28, 2023 We've done one transatlantic, back when NCL Epic was new. We sailed towards the end of June from London to NY and arrived in NY on July 3rd or 4th. We had wonderful sunny, warm weather for a couple days prior to the cruise in London, but the day after departure, weather was windy and rainy and very cool, damn near all the way to NY. One and done for us. We'll never do another transatlantic cruise. Not for us.

At lunch I was talking to Yuksel the MD of Luminae and telling him of all our Southern Crossings we felt like we were on a pond. True to form the Northern Crossing can be anywhere from mild to Wild and this is a wild one.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted April 28, 2023 Author #31 Share Posted April 28, 2023 I'll post some visual later but here's the 10:00 AM briefing from the Captain - Temperature 10 C 59F Winds 35 Knots High Seas lat night at 26 feet but chose the best of to route options. Plan A was to go further south and Plan B go North East and shoot for a gap in the storm. He said he made the right choice. For the next 24-36 hours - will be better today 13 Knots 10 C waves 15 feet from port which is causing a roll Port to Starboard.

Rare Jim_Iain Posted April 28, 2023 Author #35 Share Posted April 28, 2023 (edited) I learned something new. I was trying to enter ships location into windy and it would show me in Turkey. After a suggestion on my live I looked at coordinates on cruise mapper and found the second number had to have a negative in front which I guess W means. makes it so much more usable for exact location Edited April 28, 2023 by Jim_Iain

Rare Jim_Iain Posted April 28, 2023 Author #37 Share Posted April 28, 2023 4/28/2023. See exact coordinates but I would say mid Atlantic Just had internet drop for 5 minutes when it came up ran speed test. Noticed we are now connecting to London instead of Miami or Atlanta. Rare Jim_Iain Posted April 29, 2023 Author #39 Share Posted April 29, 2023 Captain Nikolaos has done an incredible job to minimize the discomfort of this big storm. We should see a nice day and if he works it right will shot the gap on the backside of the front as it spins counter clockwise. Do you see that clear gap -- he's trying to anticipate what the backside will do.

I have the worst time finding that app -- I search for Recorder, Voice Memo (the name) it doesnt find it. I have to look for it under utilities. Maybe I should just move to page one --- ok I have 20 pages of apps.... I was sitting in Retreat sipping coffee right under a speaker.

phoenix_dream Posted April 29, 2023 #46 Share Posted April 29, 2023 Thank you for all the weather detail. I was turning green even reading your review. I've always wondered how I would handle a TA as I am prone to seasickness in rough seas, usually manageable with meds and wristbands unless it gets really bad. I've managed some crossings to the ABC's in the Caribbean that were pretty nasty, but those only lasted one day. Same for a Gulf of Mexico sailing many years ago - we got close to 30', pitching and rolling that time - ugh!! But again, only one day. I don't think I will ever want to chance six days at sea with potential for waves as high as they got on your cruise. I'll stick with cruising for sure (over 80 so far, mostly on Celebrity), but no TA's in my future!
