Why does anyone care what color they are as long as the appropriate perks are loaded into the electronics.  I just do not get it.

DON

But if it weren't for different colors, how are the snobs going to signal that they are better than the great unwashed noobs who only have a white medallion?  After all, those people just "aren't our kind".😉

Don't know what an "unwashed noob" is but even Princess says that "newbies" get blue medallions so I can understand the question about white medallions .

With the majority of people wearing the medallions around their necks it is not difficult to spot something different. If you are not curious when you see something different, then I guess you are right, you just do not get it.

I don’t understand the lanyards. Just screams tourists to me. Especially when I see them on shore

I'm one of those nerds/tourists that have been wearing a lanyard since 2004.  I don't carry a purse/wallet or have clothes with pockets which I would never trust to not let the medallion/old card fall out.  On shore I usually tuck it behind my shirt or jacket.

Conversation Starters:

Blue: "how are you enjoying your first Princess cruise so far?"

Gold:,"Is this your second or third Princess cruise? How does it compare to your first/last Princess cruise?

Platinum: "How many more cruises until you reach the black level?

Black: "with all of the cruises you have been on, how does this one compare? What was your favorite itinerary?"

Usual reply, especially from blue/gold, "How do you know this is my first (or second) Princess cruise?"  But the conversation is started.

You are being way too reasonable,  that's just not  right on CC.

Sort of like the HAL Holland America Mariner Award Pins.  I wonder - could you set up a business and/or would Princess ban them if you tried to sell medallion covers or even fake medallion pins showing to to be higher in status than you really are.  Or perhaps interchangeable witty sayings.

I have been taking grandchildren on cruises since they were in diapers.  They have collections of blue cruise cards.  After the medallions appeared, their color went from blue to gray.  They were so excited to be Platinum and getting the appropriate color.  Of course, they were children.

Probably the small, very small, percentage of "elites" who, prior to the medallions, would flash their black cards to prove their superiority over the rest of us peasants.

This old trope is as tired as a "chair hog" thread.

Why choose a nice colour for your car if its performance is the same regardless?

Why choose a nice looking house if its just as comfortable inside as any other house?

People like things you may not care about, but it matters to them and hurts nobody 🙂

We choose the color based upon how it doesn't show the dirt.

We choose a house based upon it's location in a better neighborhood, not how it looks from the outside.

Exactly, YOU do these things for YOUR reasons.

Likewise, people may like medallion colours for THEIR reasons. Thanks for proving my point.

I still want one color of each of them for my collection.

Gee Doug, I'm sorry you don't feel so good about yourself, but it is understandable in today's society where everyone must be offended by something.

So curb appeal is not a thing in the real estate market? Got it.

It's important if your house is pretty much like all the others in a particular area. A  better neighborhood is thee most important thing to perspective buyers.

Having a just decent house in the best area means more to most people rather than the best house in just a regular one.

We learned that three times over the years and it's paid off very well.

I should add that a Black color medallion is always more appealing on a ship filled with Blue medallions.

Thanks for the free psychological evaluation, however wrong. I was not offended by the card flashers I encountered, once again, the very few out of the group, just amused by their false sense of entitlement.

@MissP22 GSD has all the sticker colors except blue. Turning a medallion blue is the only problem.

As to why: i like my refrigerator magnet souvenirs to be a rainbow of colors: blue, gold, ruby, grey, black, and white

DO they still give pins for the different loyalty levels?  I have all of my pins in a rwo an a "photo-journalists jacket" (with a lot of pockets) that I wear when I travel. (it makes going through metal detectors easy as there is nothing in my pockets when I wear it).

Perhaps the pins would be a nice keepsake to replace the card collection.

And for what it is worth, when we still had cards, I would get mine punched in the Casino or Service Desk and put it on a Princess Lanyard.  You needed it to get into your cabin and at the time, they put stickers on the back for your drink package, so you always needed it handy.  If wearing my card was 'bragging', well,... It aint bragging if it's true!
