Oceania vs Celebrity pricing

Somepoeple are writing that it much better to cruise Oceania than Celebrity

So I decided to compare pricing 

We are booked on a  16 night TA on the Connie Rome to Tampa , so I compared to a 15 night Oceania Rome to Miami 

Celebrity cruise with in a V-1 balcony with Always included is $4200 CAD , for 2, the Oceania cruise is $11,300 CAD for 2 

Even if add speciality and premium drink package Celebrity price is 1/2 of Oceania , and Oceania does not include alcohol 

so I will be staying with Celebrity

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of this. You're comparing a mass market cruise line booking from 11 months ago to a premium cruise line booking today. How does a Retreat cabin on this same sailing with today's pricing compare to Oceania?

Not only that but pricing seems to variy by a computer algorithm depending on how full the booking of the ship is at the time it's priced. If the ship is close to being booked full, the price tends to skyrocket for the remaining cabins. Price comparisons need to have more sampling with apples-to-apples comparisons.

The purpose is there been enough people posting that Oceania is better price than Celebrity and I want to check it out 
Why would I compare a suite? I don’t cruise in a suite , only balcony 

Is Oceania a premium line ?

Retreat on your sailing is sold out. The cheapest balcony cabin is currently (not 11 months ago) US$6900 in Concierge Class with AI. That is $9300 CAD which starts to make Oceania look very reasonable by comparison.

Yes, something you bought 11 months ago. Should we compare pricing on a 1975 Datsun (albeit fully loaded) to a new Mercedes next? Thanks for demonstrating that Oceania is a good value at current prices.

Comparing Oceania to Celebrity Retreat is not apples to apples, unless you compare an Oceania suite and add in the other things that are not included in Oceania pricing (gratuities, alcohol, etc.)

So you're comfortable with comparing Oceania to a standard mass market balcony cabin with 11 month old pricing?

What?? I didn't say that. I merely said that if you are going to compare, you have to compare cabins that are comparable and amenities/perks that are comparable. I agree that pricing comparisons should be from the same time frame. I also agree that Oceania is considered to be slightly higher than Celebrity- comparable to Azamara or perhaps Viking, but not to the true luxury lines like Regent, Seabourn, Silversea, Crystal...

I agree with all of this, yet you chose to quote and try to school me, not OP's dubious claims. I didn't even compare O pricing to Retreat because there aren't any Retreat cabins available. I wish I could have, in present time. I only said that it was Retreat passengers making general value comparisons.

Funny, I was just doing the same thing.  We've taken two Oceania Cruises. and our first Celebrity Pacific Coast 7 night (Los Angeles to Los Angeles) in April.  Booked a Veranda, All Included, $200 OBC for $3,4,00.  We are tired of flying to/from destinations, and think round trips from LA are just fine.

 

So, I booked a November 25th six night Los Angeles/Los Angeles (Cabo & San Diego).  Decided at that  time of year would only need an Oceanview, since it will be chilly.  Booked two of us:  $1575, this time cruise only with $200 OBC.  With All Included it was about $2,400.

 

Just now checked Oceania's Pacific Coast (late September) 7 night Pacific Coast (SFO/Santa Barbara/Catalina).  The Oceanview for two of us was just over $4,000 (that does include a drinks pkg. or excursion, or onboard credit). 

 

We've sailed on Oceania's Regatta (smallest at 684 passengers) and Marina (largest at 1200), and found the ships small, limited entertainment.  One small pool outside, that was very deep.  The food was good, but for us we found Celebrity's food just as good. What we did like about Oceania was being able to bring all the wine we wanted on board.  But we are 99% certain never to take that line again, and price is not the only factor.

 

For us, Celebrity is just fine, in fact we enjoyed it more.  But it is usually worthwhile to price various lines because sometimes there might be an unexpected price value relationship.

So not just 11 months ago but also a group rate? OP spent whatever little credibility they had on CC with one propaganda post. Well done, OP. Well done.

We have been on five Oceania ships from the smallest 650 passengers to the 1200 Riviera. Every stateroom no matter how large should be compared to Celebrity Retreat. On Celebrity, we have sailed in veranda cabins, concierge, basic retreat cabins, celebrity suites and once a Royal suite on the Edge. The food on Oceania ship wide is as good as Luminae if not better. The free included specialty restaurants on Oceania are far better than any specialty restaurant on Celebrity except for the seafood tower on Raw on Five. The lack of crowds , never fighting for a lounge  ( and we were desperate in the retreat on the Edge  to find a lounge chair  in the shade after paying a fortune for a aRoyal suite) means that Oceania is not really comparable by price alone. We cruise both lines for different reasons. I like Celebrity’s bigger casino and more varied entertainment. Both ships have little or no smoking. Both have great service. One is a very nice mainstream line and one is a premium line.

Oceania is a premium line.   I've made several comparisons for the same reason as you.  Namely, those claims that when the all inclusive nature of Oceania is considered, their fares are equal or even better.   I have yet to find that to be the case for the typical balcony cabins we use, even with package prices added.   Not even close.   Perhaps it would pen out for higher category suites, IDK.   And of course there are other factors like the potentially better dining experience on Oceania.   Based on what I read on these forums there do seem to be other differences that might justify higher fares for some.   

 

It is worthwhile to note there were (maybe still are?) some exceptionally good deals on some Oceania itineraries for later this year.  Sadly, those dates wouldn't work for us, so giving Oceania a try will have to wait for another time.

My TA emailed me today about some good solo deals on Oceania.  That puts it almost on a par with Celebrity's x2 pricing for me.  Oceania just might be in the cards this year.

We have sailed on 11 Oceania cruises, all before the pandemic. 4 times on their smaller R class ships (Sirena and Nautica) and 7 times on one of their larger O class ships (Riviera). But, their ships are just too small for us as we like getting lost in the crowd. You can’t really do that on an Oceania ship. 

 

We eventually decided if we are going to pay that much for an A1 veranda cabin ($350+ pp/day plus gratuities and drinks, as we always chose the OLife excursion option), we might as well book an “all included” Crystal cruise, which was a much better fit for us with a much better enrichment program and higher quality service, or a Celebrity sky suite with All Included, or a Princess Vista Suite with everything included and free laundry!

Remember, though, this was all before cruising shut down. Now we book Aqua cabins on Celebrity and Reserve Class cabins, and sometimes vista suites, on our Princess cruises, and have absolutely no desire to book an Oceania cruise ever again. 
 

But that was our decision. If you have not cruised with Oceania and they have an itinerary that interests you, give them a try.

I thought that rate looked to be very good for that long of a TA!
