The Maya Key private island retreat would score a 9 out of 10.

First the good

1.  Organized reception at pier easy to find.
2.  Nice looking large pontoon boat with seating for all.
3.  9 min ride to island. passed along side of Lady Allure. IMG_0489.thumb.jpeg.e221035fae94a3ed2b33bb796c94c842.jpeg

4. Exceptionally clean, groomed.  Upkeep is obvious. Landscaping impressive.

5. Tons of lounge chairs, clean. Some open canopied, shaded areas.

IMG_0486.thumb.jpeg.08d778e593458d7b3410c997632e343d.jpeg
6. Dining area had enough table and chairs for all to enjoy lunch.
7. Water completely clear. No sea weed. Comfy warm. Star fish in water.

IMG_0488.thumb.jpeg.ab2766c0e6d52f449aad23b599e288af.jpeg
8.  Animal/ bird sanctuary. All areas clean. Many life guards and resource employees.

9. Water and tea free. Other beverage as well as beer/ mixers fairly priced.

 Not impressed by:

1.  The buffet was lame. We had a big breakfast so we were good.
First attendant who served salad put a mark on your wrist band to let them know you ate. Only one pass thru buffet. ( once is enough).
Their servings included;

a. Salad. Choice of drag

b. Coconut rice and beans ( I didn’t take)

c. Fried banana chips (I did not take)

d. fried fish. Gave you one strip unless you asked for more

e. Itty bitty fried chicken. ( pigeon).

I saw some mighty fussy ankle biters not happy with lunch.

And some grumbling from big dudes that the servings were sad.

Loving your posts.  When we were on Wonder last month, they set up snacks in both the smoke-free and regular casinos around midnight (similar to the hors d'oeuvres they do in Diamond Club or Suite Lounge).  Wondering if that is the new norm.  Are that doing that in the Allure casinos as well?

Looks like you had a good day. We have enjoyed Maya Key several times.

Whilst the food and bar was definitely better with the original Fins n Flippers owners we have always found the buffet adequate, but it has been a while, perhaps they have had to compromise like everywhere else. In fairness it doesn’t appear you tried much? I presume the chips were plantains? It looks like the beach is much wider than the original and doesn’t sound like you had any problems with sand flies today if you stayed at the beach? We enjoy the pool also.

Question about Maya Key - the excursion description on RCCL classifies it as "strenuous."  Is there a lot of walking or hiking necessary to get to the beach or animal encounter?  Or are they talking about choosing "strenuous" activities like snorkeling?

One of our party has bilateral knee replacements and cannot do a lot of climbing, strenuous activity.  Is it easy to do the animal encounter?

Appreciate any info you guys can give.

Thanks for all the great info, I will be on Allure in August!, so excited.  And I love the casino, do you play $1 machines, if so, what’s your bet, max or $1.  Just curious.  I play pennies but each pull is about $4 anyway, lol.  I don’t win big.

I wouldn’t call it strenuous but there are some optional lengthy walks and some which are necessary from the tender to the beach, to the restaurant and to some of the animals.

If you zoom in on above photo from the ocean you will see the typical type of inclines, steps and natural pathways.

Someone with mobility problems could definitely have difficulties or restrictions depending on how far they can walk.

Thanks for the info.  I think she may want to pass.

Let's get to the important stuff.... How was Mamma Mia and the Aqua Show?🙂

MAMA MIA. Awesome

AQUA SHOW tonight.

If you are mobility impaired you should avoid. Steep concrete pathways.

But it is done well.

Does that also explain the hard mattresses?  I can see the imagery of Sue now jumping into bed like Scrooge McDuck into his vault.

Are you a fan of the allure’s aqua show?  Now mamma Mia - well let’s just say we have chosen to cruise on allure specifically for that show.  That’s how much we love it.  Allures aqua show in comparison to oasis’s new show and the one on symphony, not so great imo.

I've seen Mamma Mia on Allure multiple times and even more than once per sailing. I never get tired of it. And if I have a choice of O class ships I'd pick Allure just for that show.

I agree that the Aqua Show may not be the best in the O class fleet but it is still very enjoyable. I haven't been on Oasis in a few years now and I hear its Aqua Show is very good.
