Many travel agents are no longer booking Carnival Corp (Princess, HAL and CCL) Casino comp offers as they are either non-comissionable or only earn $50 commission per booking (regardless of upgrades).  They also no longer count towards annual revenue goals or back-end compensation goals.  Given the extreme hassle they represent to book/manage they are a money losing proposition for agencies to handle.

I don’t think I’ll ever qualify for one, but I know it has been a bit of a hassle for some people.

No, not really. It merely means that the software package they use for the forums has that as an option but it isn't enabled. That doesn't mean they ever had it enabled. In the far distant past when there was no universal Internet access and most people who "got online" only had access to local BBS systems (Bulletin Board Systems) there were a number of different packages to use. For a while, I enabled a WWIV (World War Four) system merely to allow myself to logon to my own computer from elsewhere and download programs I had at home to enable me to better service other people's systems. There were various options available to me but I didn't enable most of them as I was only using the system for my own purposes. There were a number of other platforms available and I accessed BBS boards on a number of them. Some had more "freedom" enabled and others had more "restrictions" enabled. It didn't mean they had "once been enabled and were now disabled". It merely meant that the BBS operator had enabled certain functions and decided to not enable other functions.

 

I believe that, in this case, Cruise Critic has merely failed to enable the function. However, as I am relatively new to Cruise Critic (joined after our first cruise in 2012) it is possible that the function actually was "live" before I joined. In that case it was most likely disabled due to personal messages that either got hostile (always a bad thing) or that violated the stated policies of those who run the site. Either way, it is their site and they get to make the rules.

 

Now, despite my long winded reply, I would also be interested to know if it was ever enabled. 🙃

That's a good question. Does anyone know if it was ever enabled? is there anyone who can say they actually used it in the past? And if so, how long ago? I guess that's a lot of questions emanating from your single question. 🤣
