Here is an article from the South Florida Sun Sentinel: PortMiami reopens 11 hours after boating accident left one person dead, disrupted cruise traffic

A tragic collision between a boat and the Fisher Island Ferry occurred very early this morning at the Port of Miami that resulted in one fatality.  Less importantly, it affected 3 cruise ships because the port was temporarily closed: Carnival Celebration, MSC Seascape, and NCL Escape.  Consequently all three ships docked very late after the port was re-opened in the afternoon.  In fact they are still there: Port of Miami webcam.  The Port of Miami posted on Twitter that all three ships are should sail away before midnight.

I guess a lot of people missed their flights out of MIA or FLL from the sailings that just ended on those ships.  And I imagine there will be some altered itineraries for the sailings that are about to start.  All 3 ships are doing 7 night itineraries.

I don't think that Celebrity has any ships running out of Miami at the moment although we will have a cruise from there next April (Summit).

I do hope all those who ask on here about “Can I make a 9.45am flight?” read this…

People who booked 3 p.m. flights missed their flights, too. 🤷 Sometimes things happen, but I wouldn't book a flight based on this anomaly.

Not sure why this got posted to Celebrity board?.?

Perhaps because most of us have friends who also sail other lines. And Celebrity does sail from Miami. I’ve departed from Miami myself.

Thank you for sharing.  When "ship" happens, outside forces besides weather can affect our departure or arrival in port.  There is lots to consider when making travel plans.

This was a tragedy, and a life was lost.  Many things can affect a cruise; or any travel plans.  But in the grand scheme of things, it's inconsequential compared to a family losing a loved one.

incident was captured on webcams .... I've linked a youtube copy

as a sailor I see a big booboo and even have a theory as to why/how . . .

short answer ..... NEVER <try to> cut across the bow of a larger vessel. That ain't in the 'rules of the road' it is just common sense . . . if things go bad the bigger boat always wins.

The incident and angry passengers got a lot of coverage on south Florida TV.

One problem was the passengers arriving for their pm cruise departures found the parking garages still full. That caused enormous congestion, spilling back into some local roads.

Per interviews, many felt there was a lack of information and alternatives presented to them. The incident happened in the early morning, so signage / alternatives could have been presented more clearly. Much weeping and gnashing of teeth over missed airline connections, who will pay for my overnight stay, etc.
