Attempting to find a non ship excursion on May 24. They range from 20s to $100s. Satisfaction and problems do not correspond to pricing. Anyone with experience or suggestions? On Oceania. Thanks.

can I respectfully suggest you rethink doing it on your own? The cruise lines charge a lot of money for the excursions - and believe me Luxor is incredible, but it is a very long day and a lot can go wrong in Egypt through no fault of your own. Speaking from one who has seen the inside of a Gaol in Port Said, through no fault of my own.

Although the "Police Escorts" across the desert are a bit of a rort, you do have the safety of the cruise lines organisational skills and guarantee that they will wait if your bus/transport is late and in Egypt this counts for a lot.

I love the country and have been there a number of times but to do this particular trip on your own I would not attempt it.

The Master makes the decision on when the ship departs. While they will endeavour to wait for any late returning shore-ex, there is no guarantee, as operational parameters will take precedence.

Since many ships departing Safaga are heading for Suez, the Master must depart in time to make the arrival at Port Suez anchorage. They cannot jeopardise the canal transit waiting for late shore-ex. In addition, many ports have limitations on line handlers, pilots, tides, etc.

If on a late returning shore-ex and you miss the ship, the cruise line will probably assist getting you to the next port, but many local vendors we use, provide a similar service.
