Amsterdam Porters

Recommended Posts

We last sailed from Amsterdam in 2019.  When we dropped off our bags, we basically just put them on a conveyer belt and didn't see them again until they were in our room.  Now I have read that there are porters in Amsterdam.  What is someone else's experience?  I'm just wondering if I will need some euros for a tip.

Unless the porters have been imported from USA then they do not require tipping.

Tipping is not a big thing in Europe.  People are paid a fair wage to do a job.

Thank you. This has been discussed here many times, but we Americans seem stubborn sometimes.

Amsterdam is one of the best ports we've recently sailed from. The service was amazing. As our taxi drove up a porter was right there to take our bags...put them on the conveyer belt and walked us to check in. For a moment I thought he was going to actually walk us onboard 😀

  • 3 weeks later...

We just cruise out of AMS in June.

There were 2 porter's standing in front of the conveyor belt. We showed our sail pass to the agent walked right up to the porter and handed him our suitcase's. They put them on conveyor belt. Very efficient process.
