allisciv Posted August 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2023 HI everyone, work has been slow lately and I need a little more time to pay off our full amount that we owe for our trip. Will they allow me to move whatever money ive paid towards this trip to another itinerary at a later date? If not I will just have to cancel the trip in full and lose the money I put towards it already. Thanks!
80sGal Posted August 22, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2023 Have you paid more than the initial deposit? Some are non-refundable BUT you can transfer some (or sometimes all) of what you've paid toward a different date. Some customer service reps will give you a waiver of the typical fee (often 50 pp but casino rates are sometimes more). You just need to call and see what rate code you booked under and where you are on the final pmt/cancelation chart to determine what you can get back or move. Yes, I paid the deposit and also more than half of the entire total. I just didn’t want to lose all that money when I know I will be able to pay it in a couple weeks, it’s just all due in a couple days.
80sGal Posted August 22, 2023 #4 Share Posted August 22, 2023 Make your changes BEFORE the final pmt due date or you will then be in the percentage based cancellation period and will lose a CHUNK of change. For now, you should get back everything over the required deposit excluding whatever the nonrefundable portion was of the deposit or the 50 pp change fee. Rare starstruck05 Posted August 22, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2023 You may not need to move the date. If you need a few more days, call Carnival and explain and they usually can work with you with possibly moving the final payment date. Otherwise yes you may run into a penalty for changing the date but depends on who you speak to.
Rare Haljo1935 Posted August 23, 2023 #6 Share Posted August 23, 2023 Sometimes they will allow you to move it to another cruise even if it's non-refundable. Select a cruise before you call so you have everything ready and can complete it during your call. And as others have said, be sure to do it before you hit final payment date. Good luck. wemjam Posted August 23, 2023 #7 Share Posted August 23, 2023 I have found that if I am changing to something that is a little more expensive they are far more agreeable to waiving the change fee (50/pp), but again it depends on your rate code you booked under and if you are within the payment cut off time frame or not as to what you might be penalized. Some are completely non refundable. If you try to change to a different cruise that is less money you likely will encounter more resistance and stricter adherence to the penalty policy.
ProgRockCruiser Posted August 23, 2023 #8 Share Posted August 23, 2023 As noted, at worst you will lose your deposits, and get refunded everything else, if you cancel before final payment. It is possible you can transfer it all to a new cruise, where you probably will only have to pay a $50 pp transfer fee, and even that might get waived, as others have noted. It really depends on which rate code you booked under, and how cooperative the agent is when you phone.
Elaine5715 Posted August 23, 2023 #9 Share Posted August 23, 2023 They consider that cancelling and rebooking.
Rare jimbo5544 Posted August 23, 2023 #10 Share Posted August 23, 2023 OP, a classic example of why to use a PVP or TA, this could have been handled immediately.
Butterbean1000 Posted August 23, 2023 #11 Share Posted August 23, 2023 We just did a similar thing. We canceled one cruise and immediately booked another. We lost 200.00. Everything we had paid on the original cruise went towards the down payment on the new one. But I believe a lot will have to do with what promo you booked with. kelhag Posted August 28, 2023 #12 Share Posted August 28, 2023 I had to cancel an April cruise and booked for a September one. All my payments, minus my original deposit of $100 (50.00 pp), were refunded. Carnival sent me a form to fill out if I paid more than 50.00 pp they would refund that also. They didn't transfer my payments; they sent me an e-gift card.
sanger727 Posted August 29, 2023 #13 Share Posted August 29, 2023 Do you really want to move to another cruise or just more time to pay? I wouldn’t risk losing your deposit and having to reschedule your cruise just to get more time to pay. How much more time do you need? If it’s less than a month, use a credit card and pay the balance off.
jsglow Posted August 29, 2023 #14 Share Posted August 29, 2023 Carnival will, on occasion, grant you a relatively short extension on Final Payment if you ask in advance of the original due date. Consider it a favor if they do. All other suggestions here are also valid.
