Barcelona hotel?

Hello group,

DW and I have just booked the Atlantic Ocean Passage, leaving Barcelona Nov. 17. Pre-cruise extensions there are sold out, so we're looking for a convenient Barcelona hotel for one night. Ideally, it won't be too far from the cruise terminal. Can anyone who has been there give me a lead on a decent hotel, including prices? Thanx in advance.

You can also look back at specific roll calls for cruises out of Barcelona to see what others have recommended. The  roll call for the TA on the Viking Sea from BCN to SJ was VERY active for Nov. 2021 (98 pages was it?). We picked up a lot of ideas there for a cruise we ultimately had to cancel. We did the return of that trip instead from SJ to BCN in March/April 2022 & stayed a few nights at Hotel Madison near a couple of the Gaudi houses.

 

If it’s the usual port (have heard noises that BCN is also kicking out cruise ships & Viking may have to dock an hour south)—there aren’t really places “close” to the port. You’ll pretty much always need a taxi from downtown—but it’s not too far, depending on traffic conditions & events that block off streets.

Really enjoyed Hotel Continental Palacete in Eixample district.  A small old world style hotel, only 22 rooms.  Right off Las Ramblas.  Has a comp 24 buffet including beer and wine.  The suite and public salon is in the French style.  

 

May not be for everyone, since very free services, and def not modern.  Has real room keys, you leave at desk when out.

We love the Marriott, Le meridian which is right on Las Ramblas.  The rooms are beautiful and the restaurant excellent!

We stayed at Arc La Rambla, a budget hotel for 120 a night with a great free breakfast buffet, all sorts of meats, cheeses, pastries, etc, right on the bottom portion of La Rambla around the corner from a Gaudi house. Taxi to the port was 10  euros.

We wanted to avoid the busyness of Las Ramblas and opted to stay in a lovely older hotel overlooking the marina: Hotel Duquesa de Cardona. Good breakfasts, quiet, lots of character, nice views. Walkable to everything and it wasn’t far from the ship. We’d definitely stay there again.

We've been staying at the Hotel Mercer for 10 years, as we take a Transatlantic crossing to Spain annually. The Mercer is not cheap, so if that's an issue, there's no need to read further. The Mercer is an elegant boutique hotel in the old city. The staff and concierge are wonderful. It's only 10 years old, and it was built right into the old Roman walls. The rooms are excellent and the public spaces are beautiful. We always have breakfast in their restaurant. It has great variety and is always tasty. There's a tapas restaurant attached to the hotel, and we eat dinner there about half of the time that we're in Barcelona. The location is fabulous. You walk out of the hotel into the historic shop and coffee shop-filled winding cobblestone streets. It's only a 10 minute walk to Las Ramblas and only about a 15 minute walk to the Passeig de Gracia, where you'll find all of the high end stores as well as some of the Gaudi-designed houses. It's also only about a 10-15 minute walk to La Boqueria, the famous market in Barcelona that's way fun to stroll through (and sample some goodies). It's also a fairly short walk to the fabulous Picasso Museum. Wherever you stay, have a great time in Barcelona.

Thanks for the recommendation. We might book this! We stayed at the H10 Madison last year after the TA from SJ to BCN. Next scheduled for the TA from  BCN to BA.
