I wrote all over my review that Carnival needed to get a handle on this yesterday, but apparently not. We'll see what happens on my next Carnival cruise. I just got off Venezia last week. Evidently there were 3 fights during the week. I didn’t see them personally because I’m usually in my cabin by 10. What I did see at grand Turk at the pool was about 20 teenagers in the center of the pool screaming, pushing each other, and throwing each other around. Not a nice fun vibe at all. I too am seriously going to look at other lines and I’m 2 days short of diamond but don’t think it’s worth it anymore.

silvercrikhix Posted September 13, 2023 #1353 Share Posted September 13, 2023 TY Megan for your Celebration review. Wow. I was disheartened by your roughing up by a group of teens. I understand all the reasons it made you cry. Such a sad state of affairs. The real question is: WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE BEHAVIOR POLICY CARNIVAL FORMALLY ROLLED OUT RECENTLY? Alas, just like all their other policies…..unenforced. It seems Carnival will even let teens bully other passengers now. We know some of the crew knew of this incident, and yet nothing?! Megan shouldn’t have to do anything. Security should be there to enforce this type of inexcusable behavior. 9

When minors are involved you are greatly limited and touching a hair on their head can lead to charges of child abuse. Someone stumbling upon the scene will only see an adult doing something to a child and may well jump in to defend the child when they would not jump in to defend an adult. And when a group is involved you can count on them spewing lies; one person's word against 10. Just leaving is the safest and most cost effective move unless circumstances/self preservation make that impossible. Is it justice? No. But we don't have justice; we have a system of justice. Those are completely different things and knowing which way the system leans can save one a lot of grief.

Also there are cameras all over the ship and if they lay a finger on you it then becomes self defense. As you said if you can walk away sometimes is the best bet but there are times when people just push too far. Now these types of people have made it so someone who loves cruising is over it and doesn't want to go on a cruise line again but these kids think they can do whatever they want whenever they want and no one will do anything about it. Sad sad world we are in right now.
dallasdan Posted September 14, 2023 #1362 Share Posted September 14, 2023 (edited) Unfortunately there was a paradigm shift in society about 25 years ago when parents started defending their kids over teachers and other authority figures no matter what. Now for the most part kids are out of control because how dare you or I speak to someone's child. On our cruise in July on the Breeze we saw a lot of teenagers running wild up and down the stairs and in the halls late at night. Sad sad world we are in right now. There are several problems. Will there be cameras? I guess it depends on the ship and their maintenance of cameras. When my wife was assaulted on Glory security said the only video was in the casino. Then there is the question of what legal doctrine the ship is following. When in international waters U.S. law doesn't automatically apply and even if it did what state's law would apply? In Georgia use of "fighting words" is justification for assault. If the group all say you called them some terribly offensive word or words then under Georgia law they may be considered justified in assaulting you even if it were all on video. Some states still have a "duty to retreat." If you are able to leave and thereby end the assault you are required to do so. If, instead, you fight back you may be found guilty of assault. English common law imposes a duty to retreat whenever it is safe. The age of the aggressor can also come into play and different places have different laws in that regard. Europeans must retreat from children with guns for example. Then, if you use language to put the fear of God into them, in some states you run the risk of civil liability for "verbal assault." So I still say "just walk away."

Rare lazydayz Posted September 14, 2023 #1365 Share Posted September 14, 2023 It is ending up with people walking away from Carnival. Cruising used to provide a nice retreat from the real world. Now, it seems the real world has taken over Carnival cruise ships. Certainly understandable why cruisers are moving on.

That is exactly what we wouldn’t do unless obviously it was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Granted there are situations when take-off is the best. If we continue to let people get away with this behavior we are only going to get more of it. When there are no consequences for bad behavior, there is no reason to change their horrible behavior. It’s hard to make split second decisions when you’re 1st off pretty shocked and stunned too. 3

lesters Posted September 15, 2023 #1369 Share Posted September 15, 2023 Im really hoping @MeganGC1983 does come back for the final wrap up. im on the Celebration next month and until the incident was very excited for the sailing and her review helped! well I still am excited. I just feel sad bad that this happened to her. And the likely numerous others who aren’t here on CC. After this October sailing we are trying Virgin. Looking forward to the fully adult experience. 2

I have it on good authority that she'll be back relatively soon to put a bow on this review. She got called away to do a sample cruise out of Fort Wayne, Indiana... So far she's not impressed...only one ititnerary and the ports suck!! 6

Rare MeganGC1983 Posted September 19, 2023 Author #1374 Share Posted September 19, 2023 Sorry y’all! I have now returned. Life got in the way. recap: the ship and the crew were amazing. The food was pretty good, I’d give it a B with Shaq’s and Teppanyaki being my highlight. There are so many choices, it was easy to miss out on things. I think overall, there’s obviously a people problem, not just on ships, but in regular day to day life. Kids shouldn’t be allowed to run amok on a ship. If I had touched any of those teens it would have been a way different story. Did it ruin my cruise? No but it did put a slight damper on it. Perhaps I’m just a smaller ship girl or maybe I’ve turned into an adults only cruiser. Either way, my next scheduled cruise is the Tribe cruise back on the Celebration in January. This time, I’ll hide with Jamman and Roscoe or in the Havana area. 😉 Thanks to everyone that followed along! 31

It’s why we’re both switching lines and booking cruises out of Europe when we can. Fewer US-based cruises for us. We have O booked for next year and I already cancelled the one Carnival cruise I had that wouldn’t incur a penalty. And we just turned diamond. I think I agree. Although in Europe, I cruised “adults only”.
