HappyTvlr Posted September 3, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2023 The cruise companion for our upcoming France cruise mentions a 1970s themed party, but I don't see it on our itinerary. Would love to know if it is worth packing something. Thanks!
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted September 3, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2023 If you can still wear something you had in the 1970s…go for it!!!
HappyTvlr Posted September 3, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted September 3, 2023 Yeah, right! I'm asking early so I can order something online!
Mrs. Claypool Posted September 3, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2023 We attended the 70’s party on our last Uniworld cruise. The people who dressed to the theme seemed to be having the most fun — bell bottoms, paisley patterns, granny glasses, fringed vests. It seemed to morph into the late ‘60’s, as well. several people told me that they had ordered their costumes from Amazon or other online sites and they all looked great. You mean this all isn't the current fashion? When did this happen? 😁 Bummer man!
Rare Got2Cruise Posted September 3, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2023 I didn’t pack anything. Who has room? Lol but everyone, dressed or not was having a fun time.
HappyTvlr Posted September 3, 2023 Author #7 Share Posted September 3, 2023 Thanks for the responses. I found some fun stuff on Amazon. Does anyone know how to find out which itineraries have the party? We're doing Ultimate France which is a week each on the Bon Voyage, Catherine, and Joie de Vivre. Rare Ritabob Posted September 4, 2023 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2023 I believe all itineraries have a 70's party. It's another cost cutting measure. Taped music to replace the in house piano player. Our cruise also had a silent disco night. RB
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted September 4, 2023 #9 Share Posted September 4, 2023 Are you sure the party theme is the 1970's? On Uniworld, it would be appropriate to imagine they mean the 1770's and dress like Marie Antoinette! 🤣
moodyb1 Posted September 4, 2023 #10 Share Posted September 4, 2023 It was a blast! My husband and I wore t-shirts with peace symbols on it that we found in a shop in San Francisco. But a lot of people bought their costumes from Amazon. One of the highlights of our Rhine River cruise!

I’m almost certain all itineraries this year have the party. They had it on my Belgium/Netherlands cruise in the spring and my recent Douro cruise. Both parties were a lot of fun and some people went all out with their costumes. Regardless of dress, the parties were a big hit.
Rare Ritabob Posted September 4, 2023 #13 Share Posted September 4, 2023 Our cruise in April the party was only so-so. The bartenders and cruise director probably had the most fun.

One older guy came to dinner before the party completely decked out with a blond Afro wig. But regardless of what people were wearing, pretty much everyone got on the dance floor.
Rare Ritabob Posted September 4, 2023 #15 Share Posted September 4, 2023 A 50's and 60's theme would be more age appropriate on some cruises 😉

Rare UDChE89 Posted September 5, 2023 #17 Share Posted September 5, 2023 The 70’s party on the Maria Theresa in April was a blast. You could tell there was a big purchase of $25 costumes from Amazon. However, they occasionally played music that wasn’t from the 70’s. 2 2
Rare UDChE89 Posted September 6, 2023 #18 Share Posted September 6, 2023 II forgot to mention that I’m the one in Orange with the terrible brown wig. 2
HappyTvlr Posted September 8, 2023 Author #19 Share Posted September 8, 2023 Awesome! I just got an email letting me know there will be one on at least one of my three cruises. Good for Uniworld.
hockeman18'smom Posted November 3, 2023 #20 Share Posted November 3, 2023 We're on Uniworld's European Holiday Markets cruise 12/1 - 12/8 on S.S. Beatrice and just received an email about this. I was confused, as our last river cruise was on Uniworld in 2019 and we had no "theme" nights at all. Just wondering, for those who've experienced this - did people dress more early 1970's (hippy style) or mid-to late 70's disco style? Thanks in advance! Mrs. Claypool Posted November 3, 2023 #21 Share Posted November 3, 2023 It was all across the board. Anything fringe, beady, disco-y will do. Afros, granny glasses, bell bottoms. And plenty of people just wore their regular dinner outfits (like myself) and admired those in costume.
Rare UDChE89 Posted November 3, 2023 #22 Share Posted November 3, 2023 On my cruise it was both. There were a lot of $25 Amazon costumes, including mine, that night.
