Grandeur Internet - Plan Ahead

If you intend to actually use the internet on Grandeur, plan out what you can get accomplished in 2-3 minutes tops before the system crashes. If you are planning on purchasing an Internet package on Grandeur, just burn your money before you board. At least then you will actually see something happen.

I was on pre-Starlink.  Deck 8 port side forward cabin (owner’s suite).  I was able to work every day with no problems. I’ll keep cabin location in mind if I book on that ship again.

Wouldn’t count on it. Apparently, according to the IT person I talked with for about 20 minutes, their infrastructure can’t handle Starlink.

Go to one of the places they have computers, Internet Cafe or RC Online, whatever they call it, can't remember. Those PCs are wired to the network and get great internet performance.

I was able to use Teamviewer (it's a trick, but if you're using Teamviewer you're probably smart enough to figure it out) and it was fine.

5Mbps is more than enough for typical onboard internet use.

That upload isn't good though if you feel compelled to share every minute of your trip on social media.

I would like to just be able to send a simple text email to my son, but even that is problematic.

5 was the highest we got. 2 was more typical, an as for upload speed, it was never sufficient enough to allow any app to tell the internet what it wanted to do.

I tried to run the speed test again two minutes after I got these results, but the system had already crashed.

Sounds good in theory, but this afternoon even their hard wired POS terminals crashed.

We’re on Grandeur now and it is, without a doubt, the worst internet I’ve ever experienced.  Completely and totally useless.  We are on deck 8.  Horrible.  Yesterday the thing went completely down for about 2 hours.  They said the satellite was the issue.  Whatever.  As @orville99 said, you’re better off burning your money.  At least you could roast a marshmallow.

Raye

Will I be able to keep my D+ internet from Grandeur  and carry over to Mariner

I really don’t want to use my free internet if it isn’t going to work

$50.99 OBC

How is the casino treating you?

Wishing you and Dan trucks of luck 🍀

Nope.  No carry-over from 1 ship to another.  BUT you could use your free D+ for 2 days and then use your 30% (Prime discount) for the remaining days. I didn’t price that out for this cruise but in general, the pre-purchase discount is usually the best price for 7 days or longer. Not sure how long your Grandeur cruise is…

For the first time in a VERY long time, I have given up on the casino for the rest of this cruise.  I’ve never had a run of bad luck like this.  I just could NOT win.  I’m done for the rest of this cruise.  Will start over on Freedom on 9-18.

Really enjoyed Bimini.  First time here.  Beautiful beaches !  Our excursion was a bust.  The boat we left in (snorkeling excursion) went tits up and had to be towed back to the dock.  Lol. We decided to just get off and get a refund rather than wait for another boat to take us out.  I would come back here though.

Oh no 😥Sorry to hear about your excursion - At least safe and sound though

We are faring ok on Wonder, just sticking to the Golden room

UTH and Dragon link slots steady for now

Grandeur for us is just a short 4 nighter out of Tampa - so we will use 2 days free each and maybe apply the 30% off if we decide not to share 🤣

Stick with it Raye, your luck 🍀 will change - Sending good vibes and little green leprechaun s and stuff your way 😉

Guess I won’t be doing a review on Grandeur or posting pics

Any lamb on Grandeur 🐑

Enjoy rest of your cruise 😎

Try going to suite lounge or wj.  We had no issues there.  We too were on deck 8 in a GS this July.  We were successful at times.  Did note speed is slower when leaving port.

One of the reasons why we always book suites is so we don’t have to wander around just to get services. Watched a woman on the pool deck this morning walking in circles looking at  her cell phone held over her head trying to find a signal. No how, no way I’m going to subject myself to that level of desperation and foolishness.
