Great Trip - was worried after reading about food and age of ship

I booked the Celebrity Constellation on August 26 sailing at the last minute and thought I had made a mistake after reading about the service cutbacks, downgrades in food/menus, and age/condition of the ship.  I had a great trip and the link to my full review and pictures is below.

I agree that the ship cabins desperately need a remodel,  the main dining room menus are boring, the side dishes are repetitive, and the plating is very school cafeteria-looking, which is such a disservice as it doesn't taste as institutionalized as it looked. Maybe it was bad luck, but the dinner servers and wine service staff in the main dining room were not very good - details in review, but they seemed like they wanted to argue with guests.

I thought the staff all over the ship (except the dinner service in the main dining room) was great. The common areas of the ship seemed to be under constant cleaning, and they did a good job on the pool desk cleaning up after people. The cabin service was excellent and I have no complaints. I really enjoyed the entertainment. They had live music all around the ship, and I liked the headliners, production shows, and thought the entertainment crew was wonderful all around. It was much better than my last cruises on Princess and Royal Caribbean. I was impressed with the quality and variety of the acts, and I think the cruise director Sue is doing a fantastic job.

Overall, I really enjoyed the ship and would sail again in a second. Just my two cents  - thank you to the Cruise Critic members for always providing insight and lively discussions.

we did the july 1 sailing on Constellation. We truly enjoyed the cruise and found the staff overall to be as friendly and conscientious and attentive as on prior cruises. There were some real standouts including one of the alBacio servers who remembered us by name from a cruise 4 months prior-blew us away after all the people she had seen in the interim! The food was fine- some really good dishes and one very poor (steak dianne). We asked for additional vegetables each night and our waiter brought a plate of steamed mixed veg.We sometimes ordered the vegatarian option for the table to add to the variety.  Breakfast in the MDR was actually quite good- efficient and tasty. Our MDR dinner waitstaff were friendly but seemed stretched. We were in a veranda this time and agree the cabins need some updates- mainly the bathroom in our cabin. The ship itself was in good condition. We dont do production shows so cant comment but the headline perfomers were enjoyable and the live music around was good. The Adriatic ports had been on our travel list and we very much enjoyed those (and were surprised at how much we liked Ravenna!).

I agree with the OP- would sail Constellation again.

we are back on "connie" this fall for 12 days and after sailing on her several times hope for another nice cruise. Does she need a refurbishment--yes but i cant see celebrity spending the $ to do it..The ship is popular and for those of us that live near the tampa port, it is sure alot easier than getting on a plane for any other cruise..With the price increases we might not be able to do too many more cruises with this company, but with our elite benefits and booking the NON AI plan we can better afford sailings with them We have no use for wi-fi and with the the huge amounts of obc that we get, it pays for grats and a few shore excursions and several trips to the tuscan grill....We go into the cruise with an open mind and will enjoy it......we are just blessed to be able to cruise at all. wish everyone well...clearwater.

Thanks for sharing your experience. We are on Connie in December and having never been on this particular ship we have been wondering about her condition, though our experience with X is that they do keep their ship's public spaces and the outside in nice condition. For us in CS and SS the cabins have all been in very good shape, as well.
