I drink on cruises but I'm not one to order shots (and I actually don't pay anything, I use my Diamond vouchers). Mixed drinks are mostly $14 and I believe very basic, simple drinks are more like $10... so a shot is probably $10 or so?

seasidemama Posted September 14, 2023 #79 Share Posted September 14, 2023 I didn't read through this entire thread. I just have one question: What is included in this "pass" other than access to an adult only beach? Are there any amenities/specialty restaurants etc. similar to the beach club that you CAN'T get for free in Coco Cay proper or is the payment for a kid free beach experience and nothing else? When you order something simple like a jack n coke or vodka tonic, you're not really paying for the soda or tonic water, you're paying for the alcohol. Thanks... neither my wife nor I are alcohol drinkers and the Alcohol Drink Pkg requires ALL in the cabin to buy so I was thinking of the Refreshment Pkg than just a few add ons. Maybe best just to get no packages as the alcoholic drinks cost the same (per drink without package) even if we bought the boys the Refreshment Package. If you call in, a non-drinker can get the refreshment package if their cabin mate gets the DBP (deluxe beverage package) but it must be done by phone. Just mentioning it though it doesn't sound like anyone is looking to drink enough to justify it.

Didn't know that but the Boys might only have maybe 10 alcoholic drinks each so even just getting the alcohol pkg for them is tooooo expensive
mramella Posted September 14, 2023 #86 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Looks pretty cool! I'd book it for our March Icon cruise, however, my wife and I will have our 13 and 15 year old boys with us, so we'll have to pass. Sure hope a lot of people go to Hideaway Beach! Less crowded at the free side of CocoCay! Lol!

My thought exactly. Just what I was hoping for -- another blaring DJ making it impossible to talk to the person next to you. If I want that, I'll get it for free at Oasis Lagoon. Lately, Royal continues to confirm to me why I have no future Royal cruises booked. mac_tlc
ZoeyVictoria Posted September 14, 2023 #88 Share Posted September 14, 2023 I wonder if originally it was designed to be a quiet, adult atmosphere, until they saw the popularity of Virgin Voyages? Are they trying to attract the party crowd or appeal to those who find the Icon to be too family oriented?
deliver42 Posted September 15, 2023 #89 Share Posted September 15, 2023 I thought it would be a nice relaxing area with decent pricing, not a loud party deal. Royal is doing so much, between cruise pricing, and now this that I'm off Royal. Has anyone looked at the Icon pricing, even in 2026? I don't know of any mainstream line, including the so called premium ones that even come close for a non suite. Maybe when I hit the lottery. In the meantime, Celebrity, HAL, and Princess are looking real good.
PompeySailor Posted September 15, 2023 #90 Share Posted September 15, 2023 (edited) So Icon (family orientated) Hideaway beach (adults only) 🫘 counters didn’t think about that one much 🤯 Prices increasing daily Icon and perfect day - fail Are they thinking they can poach the Disney cruisers 🤔 by just making it seem like an exclusive product Royal are trying to attract a different crowd - do they risk this at the expense of their loyal and Royal I know they will still fill their ships and loyalty doesn’t matter (much) Or are they trying to push the loyal crowd away from the shiny new ones, to fill up the old ladies. Just thoughts, nothing more Edited September 15, 2023 by PompeySailor

Loud DJ that is encoruraging all the drunk people in the pool "everybody clap your hands" "everybody says: Whay Oah!" Reminds me of children playing.BUT the pool is packed, so obviously enought people like it. I have loved South Beach since it was called Barefoot beach and is satisfied with the sea, beach and floating bar. All I need. If I want a pool party I will go to Vegas instead. Regarding the prices, as much as I dislike the raises on everything, just look at the over water cabanas, now at almost $4000 they are still sold out. Aqua park for more than $200? still long lines in there. I think that within a year the new adults only area in Coco Cay will also be over $200. Three weeks ago I was on the Anthem from the UK, drink package was over $100 per day if buying onboard and there was a long line of people waiting to buy on the Royal Esplanade, crazy. Lots of people in the casino betting $8 dollar per spin on the slots. My only conclusion is that the "recession" and harder economic times isn't visible on the cruise ships and that (most) of those people that still cruise have lots of money to spend. Those that are more, let me say "price sensitive" will stay at home and don't cruise at all. That way those that still cruise are spending as never before, regardless of the higher prices now compared to pre covid. 7 hours ago, PompeySailor said: Royal are trying to attract a different crowd - do they risk this at the expense of their loyal and Royal I know they will still fill their ships and loyalty doesn’t matter (much) Just thoughts, nothing more I think that their primary market now is upper/middle class families, better have a family cruise once per year and paying $8000 for an inside on Icon than a Diamond plus that pays 1400 on an older ship and sails 4 times a year and drinks for free due to their loyalty status. Loyalty doesn't matter much when they sell out the ships to new cruisers, I actually think that they regret the double C&A point offer they had last year, it got me and tons more from Gold to Diamond within a year, and in my case, with only on 3 cruises in an inside. More profitable for them to have a line of new cruiser that wants to buy the drink package onboard. So far their strategy seems to have worked, the stock price is up about 50% this year alone. Do I like it? No, but in todays world no large corporate business seems to think more than 6 month in advance. Everything for the short time returns.

We sit close enough to hear the music and it's a short walk to the back of the swim up bar and I can't even hear the DJ. No adult kindergarten where we sit... and we could get much farther from the DJ if we wanted to. The entire pool is just not loud at all in my experience, only right by the DJ.
