Our last time on Carnival was in 2022.  At that time they just passed out printed menus. If there was an option to the printed menus I wasn't aware of it.  Must be something relatively new.

So in the main dining room, do we have to look at the app on our phones to see the menus or ask for paper ones?  I have not been on Carnival since before the pandemic. Thanks!

You can do either….your choice.

I really like or love everything about Carnival except most of the MDR and Lido food quality.  Fortunately the newer ships keep adding more pay restaurants which I find totally worth it, plus Mardi Gras and others have upped the quality of free food at some venues (e.g., Shawarma, Big Chicken).

Good question and I don't know!   When we were last on Carnival it was just printed menus as far as I know.    Thankfully  @Theosprey247  was kind enough to give us the up to date answer in post #105.

As far as The Hub app, the Hub app has been around since 2018 (or 2017?), well before Covid.

I assume you are correct. We were always in the habit of putting our phones in the safe the first day and leaving them there till the last day, so we would have just ignored the app pre covid. But right after covid, when we explained our phones would not work with the QR code, they never directed us to the Hub app. Were the menus on the app all that time? Just curious. If it was on there I had an unknown at the time peeve that they didn't tell us that.😁

Or some (like Wifey & I ) don't carry our phones around the ship!

We resisted, but finally caved. One of the things we enjoyed about cruising was putting our phones in the safe and being away from the rest of the world for a week with only our sign and sail cards to keep up with. Alas, another of the joys of cruising that have disappeared.

If they have any branding on them then yes.  Or if they are nice.  Or if I need a towel at home.

So what I'm saying is yeah, they do.  😊

I was on the Panorama in August and it had a midnight buffet. Hotdogs, chicken tenders and 2 kinds of pizza. Amazing food when you're drunk. 😅

Is the midnight buffet not fleetwide?

Well, it wasn't for a while post-COVID, but happily it looks like SOME sort of late-night food shenanigans are taking place fleetwide now, judging from the posts I've seen.

I find this topic hilarious. Almost everyone has a phone and can't put them down for 5 minutes. But when it comes to the menu, all hell breaks loose.  😂😂😂😂😂

And then they're FUMBLING everywhere! No apps on the phone and no service. Buttons that suddenly stopped functioning. Phone flying out of hands like a loose fish fighting for its life!

I mean I somewhat get it. If I had the choice, I prefer paper menus over phone menus. However, if you want the honest truth from me. I probably already looked at the menu on the app, days in advance and already know what I want. Personally, I find that to have the most utility in the menu debacle. It's nice in case we want to plan what we're going to do for dinner that night. However, it is usually the MDR. Of course no one would ever find something that maybe became a positive. Papers and tablecloths make or break vacation.

Which leads me into my biggest peeve. People who look for reasons to be upset. Old timers that can't get over things not the "way they used to be." Detective Karen who found out about servicing "38 cabins" and deduces how much that ruins their day. There's so many things that most people would never even notice if it wasn't for the internet telling them to be mad.

i just got my cell phone 3 months ago- not a fan of it- have a trac phone i prefer (no internet, buy the minutes) didn't grow up with technology- still have a landline, use my desktop computer for relaxing (love jewel quest)- i don't need to be connected to a phone 24/7 - also (go on and laugh) i still use a camera that requires film (have 21 rolls of 36 exposure for the cruise!)- so there are some of us who prefer the old ways instead of the new ways- (no i'm not ancient either) (also love my smith corona typewriter!!!)  but i don't judge people who love the new technology- all depends on what you're comfortable with...

Same for us until we stopped bringing a camera.  Our phones take better pictures than any camera we had and they're waterproof.

My pet peeve is more about the fellow passengers.  I hate when people ignore all the announcements to do the muster drill.  On our last cruise there was a group of people who decided they didn't need to do it, and they kept having to announce it every 10 minutes.  They came out and said the ship wasn't going anywhere until every last person checked in, and people STILL took their sweet time going to their muster station.  It's just rude.

Well, you have to shop.  We took advantage of the $100 pp OBC they were offering for our upcoming cruises...  We booked thru a Big Box and received a few hundred dollars in cash-back incentives for each cruise, so I count that as a price reduction as well.

They are $32 billion in debt, so it's not so easy to offer a lot of incentives.

The people who brag about their casino incentives and pricing are sure pretty tight-lipped about how much their cruise really costs.  Casinos are not staying open and offering those rates because they are giving money away...  😉

I can promise you that the amount of money I lose in the casino greatly outweighs the "Free Suite and Drinks" (Funplay, etc) that the casino "gives" me when looking at the rack cruise rate for the cabin.

No, but it's probably more about the revenue from towels not returned than the cost of stolen towels.  Most of the towels not returned don't go home with people but rather are lost or misplaced or carelessly left wherever on the ship.  Carnival can wash those then charge someone else for "losing" the same towel again and again.

During one Behind the Fun tour the Laundry Manager asked us what we thought was the biggest reason for replacing towels.  Several group members said "Theft"...but he said no, actually the biggest reason for loss was towels wearing out, getting frayed, etc.

Of course, towels that aren't returned are more likely to get dragged around, abandoned, damaged or frayed, so I don't have a problem with Carnival monitoring their usage.

Drinks are making noise 24/7. Kids in the morning

My drinks are usually pretty quiet. Some clinking ice is as loud as they get. What are your drinks so busy doing?

When I get on the ship, I have to tell myself that I am on vacation and therefore what other people do won’t bother me. The repeated announcements definitely get annoying though!  And my “not your problem” mantra has limited success when people are  rude to other people like rushing in front of someone in a wheelchair to get on the elevator or being unpleasant to the crew.

I commend you for being the first person in the history of the casino to admit this. For most it's "I only spent like $50 and I get free suites."
