One drinks, one doesn't- drink package

I'm hoping somebody can clarify something as i've read differing pieces of info. 

 

Can we do one alcohol package and one soda package?  Do we have to call to arrange?

Usually you need to buy the refreshment package for the second person.

I have done this on many trips since the restart.  I have stopped as we are now Diamond and I have been able to make do with the 8 drinks I get for both of us.  You do have to call.

You have to get the RP not the Soda package for the non-drinker.

We do it every cruise, as the wife drinks and I don't. Call, and that's all you have to say. Contrary to some people who swear they require proof or a DR note- you saying one of you drinks and one doesn't is all you need to do. They will require you to get the refreshment package for the non drinker

Do the math of the cost of two packages and it might be cheaper to be go ala carte.

Our son and daughter in law were with us on our Alaska cruise -- he wanted the drink package, and she didn't want the refreshment package. 

Since she's the financial comptroller in their household, he was allowed a budget of whatever the drink package cost.  Think of it as the Dave Ramsey Envelope System for Cruising.

Somehow, he came in well under budget.  Win-win.
