TBurr Posted October 15, 2023 #1 Share Posted October 15, 2023 I noticed the LoS which departed Bayonne yesterday is sitting in New York Harbor the next morning. Does anyone have any information as to what is going on? Thanks
BND Posted October 15, 2023 #2 Share Posted October 15, 2023 She delayed leaving the area due to the weather.
Jimbo Posted October 15, 2023 #3 Share Posted October 15, 2023 Guess there was no where to dock in Manhattan for the overnight stay, that is where we docked for our delayed leaving for Greenland because of the weather on Jewel(mid September)
philpcruiser Posted October 15, 2023 #4 Share Posted October 15, 2023 So now she sits anchored in NY harbor on Day 2 of a 5 day cruise? She'll never make it to Bermuda and back now.
TBurr Posted October 15, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted October 15, 2023 Are the seas so very rough off the Carolina cost? A Disney ship made it to Bermuda, then it comes from Florida not New York. Where is it so bad?

Jimbo Posted October 15, 2023 #7 Share Posted October 15, 2023 What's even stranger is that Carnival Magic and Norwegian Joy are sailing and located now between NY and Bermuda. So why didn't Liberty sail through it? Ship issue, engine etc. what is the issue and why hasn't anyone onboard reported as to why they didn't sail to Bermuda yesterday? There is a big storm off the coast, so leaving from a northern port would have encountered really rough seas last night. This shows there is clearing below now and should allow you guys to get to Bermuda.

Their cruise is suppose to return to Bayonne at 7am on the 19th. They are still just sitting there by the bridge in Bayonne. They have all ready lost 19 hours of sailing time. Don't think they are going to get to Bermuda. Original dates were October 14th to October 19th. It only takes a about day to get to Bermuda and the same to get back. Depends on sea conditions but the could possibly have 6 to 8 hours in Bermuda.. Then how come their original time was leaving at 5pm on the 14th and arriving in Bermuda on the 16th at 9am, Isn't that like 40 hours to get there? Just not sure what Royal is thinking for this cruise? Pretty much left with no options? Edited October 15, 2023 by Jimbo

That is for operational reasons. Ships can not sail into or out of the Bermuda channels at night. Too dangerous. They are restricted to daylight hours and requires a pilot boat. Many sailings to Bermuda spend two days at sea so that the saiings are 7 days. They take their time. It does not actually take two days, Edited October 15, 2023 by Charles4515
philpcruiser Posted October 15, 2023 #13 Share Posted October 15, 2023 If the storm was not affecting a ride up to Boston or Halifax, most people probably packed shorts and t-shirts.

Curious was the casino onboard open last night and today?

Should be open now but I've not been back inside to look. That will have cost them a few $$$.

Sailed across the Hudson right by the Stature of Liberty, and docked in Manhattan and left the next night around 8pm for Greenland. Might want to ask that question to the Captain if they have one of those sessions where you can ask questions onboard. Not sure who's deciding those but no Captain's Corner for the past few sailings on Liberty - they usually don't on shorter ones anyway.
mets123 Posted October 15, 2023 #19 Share Posted October 15, 2023 On last week's 9 day the captain and chief officers walked through the Royal Promenade for an hour answering questions on the last sea day.

You've paid a lot for a five day cruise and wind up with just eight hours in port. Lol

The air and water temp are still fine in mid October. Or I could go to Hamilton. The ferry takes 30 minutes. I could do an island taxi tour. I don't do ship excursions but no doubt RC will offer a bunch. There are many 4 or 5 hour catamaran and other excursions offered out of the local Island Tour Centre. There are a number of Bermuda port calls that are only one day. I was on one about ten years ago. We had a great day at the beach.
