On MG now, iMessage issues w/ ATT iphone

Lots and lots of people are having this issue.  Over night the “send / receive” iPhone phone number gets unchecked under iMessages and iMessages don’t work until you can get wifi or data to re-check the phone number. Is there a fix for this while at sea without wifi.? I’ve reset phone, etc and nothing works for anyone.  I bought $5 chat but maybe I can help someone else.

To imessage you have to have some type of internet access - either wifi or cellular data. I know that there is a bug that sometimes let you imessage without purchasing wifi on the ship. But they can close that gap at any time. You not being able to imessage without wifi or data is the "fixed" solution (from the cruise line's perspective).

It is a glitch with Carnivals hub app that sometimes allows Iphones to send text messages without purchasing a wifi plan.  On our Miracle cruise in February to Hawaii and Breeze out of Galveston in July I was able to send messages without any issues.  No videos or pictures.  On our cruise a couple of weeks ago on the vista I was not able to send messages after the 2nd day for some reason.  So it is hit or miss.

Some of you guys/gals here are just miserable Karens.  Thanks to the others who tried to assist.  But to the Karens, know you can sleep well tonight because I did pay for the chat feature (day 1) and the casino has tore me a new one so far!

The chat feature is to chat through the Hubapp not your Imessage. The other posters weren't being "Karens". That's not even what a Karen by definition even is. They told you correctly. It's not "supposed " to work. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't.  Don't ever count on it.

Chat is for INTRA ship only. To IM to an outside 3rd party one needs at least the Social internet plan.

Exactly.  It's like stealing your next door neighbor's internet connection.  It's not "not working" when they finally decided to put a password on it.

And no one is a "Karen" because they pointed that out to you.

The OP told us correctly.  He/she is clearly describing iMessage but then changed his/her story when called out.  If he/she paid for the service, those boxes wouldn’t become unchecked then checked again when on data ;).

I like free stuff too but I don’t complain when something I’m not paying for isn’t working.

Let's not get carried away. The amount of bandwidth used by iMessage is insignificant in relation to other passengers. Sending a message with 100 characters would use about 10 bytes of data. That's unnoticeable. And to compare it to stealing the neighbor's wifi is a tad dramatic.

Since it's a known glitch that iMessage sometimes works without a purchased wifi plan, did the OP just assume iMessages was supposed to work? He/she said others made note of the (perceived) "problem" as well, so it's possible some didn't understand that it actually wasn't a problem at all.

Itried4498, how did the OP "change their story" when they literally said they purchased the chat in their original post?

OP, I'm certainly going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't understand the distinction between Chat and IM as it pertains to Carnival ships and what packages you need to make each functional.

What I do hope is that IT gets this little issue resolved properly. Oh wait, the website still sucks so I won't hold my breath. At least the fact that it got discussed on CC got it noticed by the beards.
