Hello all.  We are sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale for the first time this September and was wondering if someone can suggest a hotel near the port.  Looking for a nice place that isn't overly expensive.  Thanks much!

Hello @Davet2016

Thank you for your new topic on the Cruise Blogs & Websites forum. However, it is off-topic there. The forum is for Cruise Critic members to post links to their personal travelogue-type of cruise-related blogs or websites.

To help you out, your new thread has been moved to the Florida Departures forum where it will be on the correct forum. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed from Florida frequent this forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles on this forum looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that will be of interest to you.

The Cruise Critic website and message boards are both great resources for new as well as experienced cruisers, and we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list for all the various forums. Please read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads (aka Stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there.

Glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

Happy sails,

Host Kat

While waiting for specific hotel recommendations, take a look at the Fort Lauderdale tourism website:  www.visitlauderdale.com for information on lodging, transportation, dining, and attractions.  If you are flying into FLL the closest area to both the airport and the seaport is 17th Street which is the north side of the port that has plenty of hotels and restaurants. The airport and the seaport are separated by a highway; you can see the ships docked at Port Everglades from the airport.  Just south of the airport - and a slightly longer ride to the port - are the hotels and restaurants in Dania Beach.

If you provide us with your budget ("not overly expensive" is open to interpretation) it will help determining what hotels to recommend.  You are lucky that September is still the slow season (not as many ships in port as during the winter so less demand for hotel rooms).

Also take a look at the threads on this forum.  Lodging is probably the most frequent topic.
