Jeafl Posted November 30, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2023 We just received our first ever upgrade offer, after 11 cruises on Carnival. It is $192 to upgrade to the Cove balcony. The balcony cabin is 2295 which is under the MDR, so the location is good. The only downfall I see is that we would be giving up the second bathroom. Any thoughts? groundloop Posted November 30, 2023 #2 Share Posted November 30, 2023 My personal opinion is that I'd always take a balcony over ocean view, I'm sure others have differing opinions. We've had a cove balcony just once and liked it. We spend a lot of time sitting on our balcony either reading or enjoying a drink and watching the water go by. It just depends on what you like.
Jeafl Posted November 30, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted November 30, 2023 I forgot to add that it is a 10-day cruise, so the $192 would be less than a $20 a day difference.
Drazil65 Posted November 30, 2023 #4 Share Posted November 30, 2023 The short answer for us would be no. Although its been a few years since we have had any oceanview cabin, the bottom line is we are not fans of the coves (not a fan of the salt spray wipe down on the balcony every time to use it as it is always misty and way too close to the water for our liking). The deluxe OV is a great cabin especially if you have kids with you or just some extra bathroom space for getting ready. Is your OV in a better location overall?
Rare Essiesmom Posted November 30, 2023 #5 Share Posted November 30, 2023 It would depend on the composition of your party. If you have kids along in the same cabin, esp. teens, two showers and sinks would trump the balcony. EM

Both would be midship. 6 minutes ago, Essiesmom said: It would depend on the composition of your party. groundloop Posted November 30, 2023 #7 Share Posted November 30, 2023 I see a lot of people talking about the spray on a cove balcony, but that wasn't an issue at all when we had a cove. It was midship on Magic, under the dining room.

havanadaydreaming Posted November 30, 2023 #10 Share Posted November 30, 2023 $192 ttl or pp? its kind of a coin flip to me. i love the deluxe OV. this from a fella that only did balconies first 10 cruises or so. i like the higher up balconies in port so i can see more stuff in the distance. at sea not so much so long as it isnt obstructed view. I actually found it accidentally on the Carnival website under Manage my Booking. It was just sitting there, in rather small print, actually.
csm5986142 Posted December 1, 2023 #14 Share Posted December 1, 2023 Cove balconies are my favorite so I would be thrilled with that offer. They are so nice and shaded/comfortable/private. I love being so close to the water. We got to see dolphins and flying fish so close-up.
Rare BlerkOne Posted December 1, 2023 #15 Share Posted December 1, 2023 Take the Cove. Those two bathrooms are still just one toilet.
Jeafl Posted December 1, 2023 Author #16 Share Posted December 1, 2023 Thank you all! We ended up taking the deal and went with the cove balcony. I appreciate everyone's input.

It was just sitting there in small print. Very easy to miss!

my kids mama Posted December 4, 2023 #22 Share Posted December 4, 2023 Warning, once you go balcony, it's hard to back. Also...how many of us just went to carnival.com and looked under manage my booking to see if there was an upgrade offer there? I know I sure did.
