I wonder if they will change over to the smart elevator system that they put on the Horizon and the Panorama ?

I doubt it.  Not worth spending the money to do that.

I would not expect anything other than the standard repainting of the hull.

For a 4 week dry dock, they are doing more than just painting the hull.

My source who works in the casino says they are getting a "new" casino... but that's all the info I got.. that makes me think the rumor about turning the iMax theater into a non-smoking may be true.

I think the dry dock is 3 weeks. Vista left Port Canaveral on 1/8 and arrived in Spain on 1/16. She's scheduled to be back in PC on 2/15 so will likely be leaving Spain around 2/6. But I agree, they will do more than just paint.

Theoretically, the "dry dock" started once the ship pulled into Port Canaveral Jan 7 and will continue possibly into its first voyage back. For example, they would not wait to get to Spain to pull up carpet, strip beds etc. all this prep and post work will be taking place.

In recent drydocks, Carnival hasn't been replacing carpet or upholstery. They've just been doing the hull inspections and repainting that they're required to do. I think the only recent exception to this rule was the Pride where they also ripped out a lounge to add more staterooms.

The Pride did have a pretty intensive dry dock where she also had two new Azipods completely replace the old ones. (Which ironically malfunctioned a couple months later) She had her balconies taken off and replaced as well. There are pictures of her in the dry dock without the balconies, looked strange to say the least. But obviously I don’t expect Vista to get any intensive care as she’s not 20+ years old.

Right, the Pride is the only exception to the rule so far since the restart that I can think of.

Just to amend you @mz-s, they removed the lower level of the nightclub on Pride and replaced it with a Chef's Kitchen plus added a very few cabins (mostly ADA) as the space could be somewhat smaller. They also re-branded the sports bar and steak house plus replaced the library with a retail shop. I don't want anyone getting an inaccurate perception that a large lounge was replaced by many cabins as was the case in the Sunshine conversions.

Very good point - this was not a pillaging of public space like we saw with Sunshine.

It seems we have two ends of the spectrum... one end says a month a half dry dock will end with basically a paint job and the other end we have a good freshen up of the ship and a new venue or two...we shall see real soon...I was on one of the Vista most recent voyages and collectively the crew I spoke with were dreading it as they had been informed they were in for some long hours assisting with the refurb. I don't think crew will be assisting with the azipods...so what does that leave?

The drydock maintenance crew moves onboard and lives on the ship during the drydock, so the crew have to take care of them. At least the hotel and presumably food service crew - the entertainment crew for example don't stay on for drydocks generally. Or at least they usually don't have to.

Dont want to see the IMAX gone, Ive watched some amazing movies in there and am a big movie buff.  Its great to do after the wife crashes for the night as I am a night owl.

I wouldnt complain if they could add a shaqs big kitchen though, love that place.

Any renovation work will have the crew doing the grunt labor of removing debris to the dumpsters, and cleaning the jobsites every day so the sub-contractors have a clean worksite every morning.  Other crew will be tasked with performing "fire watch" duties both in the hotel and engineering spaces, so that the cruise line does not have to pay for that service from the shipyard.  That can take up to a hundred or so crew a day.  There will typically be several hundred to a thousand sub-contractors onboard (everything that is not strictly "ship related" (engineering, hull maintenance, navigation equipment) is done by sub-contractors, not the shipyard personnel), and it is cheaper and more efficient for these folks to live on the ship (no commute, no meal travel), so housekeeping and galley/restaurant crew will continue to serve them.  Also, everything like putting plastic sheeting or kraft paper over the carpeting throughout the ship (sub-contractors don't remove their shoes) will be done by crew, including the renewal of this when it gets torn.  Crew will be allocated to "crane service" duties, where they assist in loading and unloading, the containers of materials deposited on the ship.

FYI

Carnival Vista's Dry-Dock Information:    New Information!
Previous Wet-Dock:  2021        Upcoming Next Scheduled Dry-Dock:  2024
Update As Of 1/19/2024:  The Carnival Vista's 2024 dry-dock is now taking place in Cadiz, Spain. The time out of service is scheduled to end 2/14/2024. It is expected the Carnival Vista's Skybox Sports Bar is being converted to the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge as Carnival put the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge as coming soon to the Carnival Vista online. Further, it is expected (but not confirmed) that Carnival will be adding the red, white, & blue hull livery to the Carnival Vista during this dry-dock.
The Carnival Vista was launched in 2016. In 2019, Carnival took the ship out of service for a dry-dock that utilized a floating dry-dock. In 2021 the Carnival Vista had maintenance completed in a wet-dock.

So far we have a prediction of paint only...followed by the prediction of IMAX converted to smoke free casino and then we have the sports bar remodel into a military theme. I personally think there will be new carpet and bedding or maybe it is just a hopeful wish...we shall see...

Somebody dreamed up the IMAX was going, and then other people parroted it as fact. Just as I knew. Looking at the deck plans it is easy to see that a smoke-free casino annex would not fit in where the IMAX theater is right now.

I think whoever started that rumor that confused the Thrill Theater with IMAX.  I had heard a while back that the Thrill Theater was being removed.  It's also no longer listed as being available on Vista on the Carnival website.

Pretty sure most people never said the IMAX was for sure going, only that it was a rumor or they heard it might be. But yes, let's act like everyone said 100% it was going as fact!

In any case, what great news! I'll be sailing the Vista next year and would like to have the chance to catch a movie in the IMAX on it.
