Last Minute Re-Booking & Funds Transfer

Recommended Posts

We have a booked an RCI cruise departing on January 26th.  But we want to cancel this cruise (for reasons of aggravated pre-existing medical conditions) and ask RCI to transfer the January 26th cruise money to another cruise a little later this year.  We have the standard RCI trip protection insurance.  We are well into the cancellation penalty box.

Has anyone had luck in last-minute cancellation/re-booking of cruises with RCI?  We're going to give RCI a call after New Years and give it a go.

Thanks in advance for comments & suggestions.

Sorry to say, you are most likely out the money. They absolutely will not transfer funds forward to another booking; and as you said, you are well within the cancellation penalty window.

Not sure whether this applies, but do you have Cancel for any Reason insurance from RCL? You may be able to at least get something back if you have that.

From RCL's travel insurance policy:

The following Cruise Vacation Cancellation Enhancement is provided by Royal Caribbean and is not an insurance benefit

“Any Reason” Cruise Credits equal to 90% of the non-refundable pre-paid Cruise Vacation Cost

In the event that you choose to cancel for a reason not authorized above or for a reason that is otherwise restricted, at any time up until departure, and you have purchased the Royal Caribbean Travel Protection Program, Royal Caribbean International will provide you a cruise credit equal to 90% of the non-refundable value (excluding AIR2SEA) of your Cruise Vacation prepaid to Royal Caribbean International, for your use toward a future cruise. This additional enhancement is offered by Royal Caribbean International as a special service to guests that purchase this cruise ticket Cancellation Penalty Waiver Addendum. Certain restrictions on the use of these cruise credits (such as blackout periods) may apply. Credits are valid for one year from issue date, are not transferable, and have no cash value. To be eligible for the credits: 1. The travel protection plan must be purchased prior to having made final payment for the cruise; and 2. Notification of cancellation must be given to Royal Caribbean International prior to the ship's departure. Once you’ve cancelled with Royal Caribbean International, please contact the Royal Caribbean Travel Protection Program Help Line at 1-800-453-4022 or 1-516-342- 7262 regarding cruise credits. Please note that AIR2SEA components are not subject to this cruise credit feature.

At worst you call and explain your situation. You never know when you may get a sympathetic agent

And read the insurance policy cancel for any reason information contained in their cruise documents before they call.

After final paymemt, transfer of funds is not allowed even with insurance.

With Roysls insurance you will be allowed to cancel for any reason.

Taxes and fees will be refunded.  90% of the cruise fare will be issued as an FCC valid for 12 months.

This is the primary reason why we always purchase travel insurance directly from RCL😇

That and the fact it can be purchased up until final payment  and does not have  age based premiums are the only good things about Royals policy.

And the cost is competitive to third party providers.

So, thanks to all for their replies so far.  Usually, for our long cruises on Holland America, we get cancel for any reason (CFAR) insurance with HAL's Platinum Insurance.

So, is it possible that our RCI Vacation Protection Plan already has CFAR coverage and we don't know it?  When purchasing RCI insurance in past cruises, we never saw any sort of enhanced insurance product that has CFAR coverage.

I'll call RCI tomorrow and see if we have CFAR in our policy.

As I answered in posts 7 smd 8...

Your Roysl policy includes CFAR but funds cannot be transferred.

What I posted above in posts #4 and #9 is directly from RCL's insurance policy documents.

Royals policy has included CFAR for at least the last 6 years and most likely a lot longer.
