Camp Discovery - Almost 3 year old drop off?

Hi, we'll be travelling on the Caribbean Princess in April with family that includes 4 children ages 2, 5, 5 and 7. The older three obviously can use Camp Discovery and we plan to drop them off. The younger one will turn 3 less than three weeks from when we're sailing and is potty trained. I'm curious to know if anyone has been in a similar situation and they've allowed drop off at Camp Discovery with other children of the family since they're so close to 3? He will be extremely upset if his sisters and cousins get to be dropped off and he doesn't get to participate (and we're hoping for some adult time). 

 

Also, I've seen the registration form and it asks for DOB. Does anyone know if I can I just move up his DOB by a couple weeks or do they compare it to our room records?

It’s a liability insurance thing.  And they will scan his card/medallion and know his age.  EM

As others have said, zero chance.  Even if he turned 3 during the cruise, he would not be allowed in before.  When my daughters were under 3, the kids club allowed one parent to accompany them into the club to play - not sure if that's still the case.

Princess is very firm on the age requirements and the kids club has a manifest of all the children onboard with their age, so you will not be able to lie about the birthdate. As Kerry's Girls mentioned, it has been the case that a younger child could use the facilities at certain times when accompanied by a parent who remains with them, but you would have to verify that with the staff when you get onboard.

We likely won't take him at all if he can't be dropped off. 

 

Do you know if I were to strap him to my body in a baby carrier if I could still be in the casino? Or is that a no go haha.

Haha - afraid that won't fly. Casino is strictly pass through for the kiddos. You and your hubby will have to take turns, or maybe get some of the family you are traveling with to do some babysitting.

I wasn't aware the cruise lines still allowed smoking in the casinos. The Royal Caribbean we were recently on didn't seem like it did, unless there just was zero smokers gambling.

I don't know if you can do this, but can you push back your cruise for three weeks, so your child can go to Camp Discovery?

We would absolutely do this but unfortunately there are no sailings available in May on the Caribbean Princess through the Caribbean. We chose this ship since it had a splash area for the kids.

My question is do they provide snacks and drinks while in the program? I read the program guidelines, and it mentions meals, snacks, etc. on port days and no food in the youth center. Just trying to get a grasp on expectations. I other words go get a drink at the drinking fountain and lunch is in 2 hours. 🙂

Kids staying on board on port days while parents are onshore will be taken by club staff as a group to the buffet for meals.

I don’t remember meals being offered as part of the program on sea days. It seems we needed to manage meals on those days. I think the buffet is far too busy on those days for the staff to try to herd the kids through while it is very quiet on port days which makes it manageable. 
 

The clubs close for an hour at lunch and dinner on sea days so I think parents are expected to feed the kids during those breaks. It stays open on port days when parents might be on shore so they need to make sure kids get lunch.

Thank you. Looking at the hours of operation they are closed during lunch and dinner on sea days. I should have been more specific. On sea days during normal operating hours does Camp Discovery offer snack and drinks?

I don’t think so unless it relates to a special activity that is planned. I can’t recall my kids getting snacks or drinks, but I think I was able to send a water bottle with them. It’s been awhile as they are all grown up now. Maybe someone with more recent experience will answer.

For the grandkids 6 & 9 I think would be less than an issue since they are in school and the lunch and dinner breaks seem to fit to a school schedule. Just wondering about the 3 year old. Although she will be with her 6 year old sister. I guess we will find out in late April.

* Princess will know the child's real birthday from his legal boarding documents.

* The Caribbean Princess has a very nice family zone on deck 17 aft. It has a splash area with water features, a pool and a hot tub. There is also a youth bar and some nice seating. Children are required to be toilet trained to use any water feature. No swim diapers.

* You probably can bring the child into the casino. You may or may not be asked to leave. Most of the slot machine sections are smoking areas and can be quite unpleasant  and unhealthy. Table games are non smoking, but you can still smell smoke in the area.

* You probably can bring the child into the youth area if you remain with him.
