St Pete Cruiser Posted January 12 #4 Share Posted January 12 That is great to hear. Our guest service manager on the Zaandam told us that now that the ships are sailing full and that the fares have increased, expect to see more of the little things that were cut after covid return.

sansterre Posted January 13 #6 Share Posted January 13 I must have missed something. What are Pop up Dinners?
oakridger Posted January 13 #7 Share Posted January 13 A dinner with a menu that is only offered temporarily. The menus are usually from one of the other HAL restaurants that aren't on that ship. Example: Tamarind isn't on Zuiderdam but one evening on Zuiderdam they offer the Tamarind menu food at the Pinnacle Grill restaurant. I hope that explains it clearly! It's a good opportunity to have some variety in the dinner choices, and, oh yeah, makes more money for HAL!! ~Nancy

Rare TiogaCruiser Posted January 13 #9 Share Posted January 13 So what is the “jellicle dinner”?

Tiffany had a lot of fun making each course look like something else. Like first course looked like a dessert, but it was a savory starter. Introduced confusion between you sight and taste. No idea what it will be like this year. 3

Fred321 Posted May 22 #18 Share Posted May 22 Gail and Mary, we agree. Grand Aus/NZ this year was much more like the old grands. Great crew, more pop up events and special dinners, great classical music and nice gifts without going overboard on useless things to pack and ship home. May never be just like the "old days" but it was obvious from the experience and from Antorcha's comments onboard that they at least have been listening. 1

We still got the Grand treatment though.

I totally associate the Hotel GM with the Volendam as we sailed so much with him on it. We like both of those ships.
Rare sambamama Posted May 26 #23 Share Posted May 26 I was on a 14 night Asia cruise postponed for 3 years from Singapore to Hong Kong, and I sure did not see improvements. All I saw were drastic cutbacks. The MDR was closed for lunch every day we were in port. There was no Mariners lunch. They cut the loungers by the indoor pool by half, and we had inclement weather so we needed them. The bread selection at the buffet for lunch is abysmal, and even in the MDR and the Pinnacle is pretty poor. Fruit soups are pretty much gone. The Yum Yum man is gone. Nightly chocolates are gone. There was,one solo meetup. I haven't seen one single improvement! Maybe its only for Grand Voyages. It was very disappointing to travel so far and see such cutbacks, especially that wouldn't have been there back in 2020.

tgetz Posted May 27 #25 Share Posted May 27 We love all the 'pop up' diners on a world cruise. In my memory, it seems like sometimes it was hard to get a reservation if you didn't book really early, so a few questions please. Are the 'pop ups' available to book before you sail? Were most of them sold out? Did some dinners, like the Cellar master dinner, only use part of the pinnacle? Thanks
