A year makes a big difference.  Wevw been on Discovery probabaly seven or eight times? Guest hallway, the light colored carpet is looking really bad. Stairwells too. Pool towels, many have holes. The Salty Dog is very run down, tables, chairs, etc. If an overhaul is done, they need to use different materials.

Not complaining, just a general observation.

Wow, that’s terrible!

It sounds like the passengers have really been hammering on that ship lately - almost exactly a year ago it was clean and most everything looked as good as new.

I'm guessing the people who were spilling and wreaking havoc on the Salty Dog furnishings are the same ones who demand to be allowed to wear shorts and a t-shirt to the MDR on Formal Night.

Your guess would be wrong. One has nothing to do with the other.

It's wear on cheaper materials, especially the furniture and tables in Salty Dog.

The pool towels are thin and holes develop when a cheap material is washed over and over again.

The carpet stains and wear are from a light colored carpet and not enough crew for upkeep.

We still had a very fun cruise, entertainment staff and bartenders were the best; these are just some general overall observations on a ship we've sailed multiple times.

Since the restart, we’ve had towel animals nearly every cruise.  This is our most recent one.  We’ve even had a whole zoo one some cruises.

A total of 22 Princess cruises to date. Number of towel animals: 0

We did see a table setup on a recent cruise that had examples of towel animals but have never seen one otherwise.

In 60 cruises with Princess we have only had maybe 3 charges that we had an issue with and they were all dealt with quickly and corrected.

We have had a few over the years but, like you, we always had them corrected quickly and easily. We recently did 63 days and didn't have a single erroneous charge.

Honestly, this is the first time I have had so many account issues on Princess. In 2022 things ran smoothly in all aspects of our Discovery cruise(s).

Only guess was the joke at the end.

And the issues would be even worse if they had provided designer furniture, for crying out loud. I have downright cheap furnishings that have lasted decades. I simultaneously laugh and cry when people declare that inanimate objects somehow wear themselves out.

Did Princess take furniture that lasted almost five years (let’s call it three due to the “troubles”) and suddenly replace it with things that could fall apart in just one?

Discovery was a new build during the Pandemic.

Because you weren't sailing on the Discovery!  I can't imagine 63 days of chasing down folio mishaps.  Four days was enough!

I'm just curious about this because I have seen similar comments about the increase in erroneous charges on other threads as well. If you have the Plus or Premier package, do they charge you for the item and then back the charge out? I know that's what they do with the Elite laundry - they issue a charge, and then a credit, but you have to keep an eye on it. I guess I just assumed if you have a package, there would be no charge at all, but these reports make me wonder if they are issuing a charge and credit for all of the items covered by the packages in order to track usage. That really puts a lot of pressure on the passenger with the package to track their bill and charges - not very fun!

No. They do not (or are not supposed to) charge you then remove the charge. Once you have the package everything should be included - zero charges. My guess is that it is another tech glitch. 🙄

The only towel animals I saw on this cruise was at the towel bar by the pool.

Still a great trip.

Happy Trails

This is what I am thinking as well....  Perhaps with all of the changes in the Plus and Premier packages, along with other 'perks'?????

The bottom line is,  from this issue, to the delays and inappropriate lack of transpaancy with the SUN,  the absolute abomination that can sometimes be Princess Customer Service lately... Etc... Etc...

Rose Colored Glasses can not always filter out reality.

Well... We will be sailing 10 days on Discovery Princess in April for the Eclipse cruise. I will board expecting all to work well and take it from there. We did have one cruise back when the Sip and Sail promo was going where only one venue messed up but that venue messed up every time. I would order drinks from the roving waiters in the Theater (remember those days?). If we were sitting in the upper tiers the drinks came from Wheelhouse and were never charged. If we were sitting lower down the drinks came from the Casino Bar and they charged me every single time. I had to go to Guest Services to have the charges removed. No idea why that one bar couldn't do things properly. Possibly a training issue.

I don’t agree with this one. What does one thing have to do with the other?

Hmmmm?  We have cruised on Princess extensively over the last 25 years and have probably seen towel animals in our cabin on over half of those sailings.  Not sure why the disparities ..

I’ve never had one on a Princess cruise.

I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed your cruise. I have sailed on the Discovery Princess three times and it is my favorite ship.

I’m on the Discovery on Saturday morning. I will take a page out of @Thrak’s book and go into it expecting a great vacation on one of Princess’ finest ships. I will have a LIVE and you are welcome to follow along. I enjoyed this Live very much and I appreciate the good and the surprising being shared here. I think sailings can vary tremendously depending on the staff. Even if it’s the same staff as the previous sailing, a healthy learning curve or fatigue can swing customer service to either end of the spectrum.
