3-7-24 Thursday Weigh-In---March Into Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Which means we should walk more every day. "They say" best exercise is walking

and most people can do some.

I know I do more walking on cruises and have come home with a loss or stayed the same.

But of course, have to do it with eating less and that's the problem. Sometimes do one or the other.

I know I don't walk enough at home. Like hardly none lately.

Do you walk or do other exercises or both? Do you really try to eat less (healthy) when exercising?

Do you see more loss's when you do both instead of eating less?

Hope you (everyone) has a lost Thursday.

It looks like I am down another pound this week.  I am working my way up to being able to walk for exercise again.  I recently finished a course of physical therapy to strengthen my core to help protect my spine.  I have a series of bulging discs in my lumbar spine that I exacerbated into severe chronic pain last fall after trying to “get in shape” too fast.  I over did it and it set me back.  I had tried power walking around the perimeter of my yard.

Since then I have lost about 8 pounds, finished with PT and have started working with a personal trainer.  It is only 30 minutes twice a week but it is a recipe that has worked well for me in the past. I can feel the results of those sessions.

I do not have a great place to walk at my house. I have 2 acres of land (that in the winter and spring stays pretty mushy from all the rain) and an in ground pool.  So I am hoping by May or June to able to add swimming and yard work to my body moving activities.

On cruises I don’t walk that much.  I am a rapid walker when I do walk, but on cruises I am with my husband who is a full time wheelchair uses (and it is a manual chair).  So on any carpeted areas it is slow going, and  maneuvering the chair around even thin crowds of people is a lot of stop and go.

My weight loss is largely due to intermittent fasting and trying to avoid unhelpful carbs.  I am not full blown keto but I try to avoid all sweets and junk foods, and I eat breads, potato’s and rice in moderation.  I eat a lot of fruit (with keto yogurt and coconut almond granola -to die for😁), veggies, cheese, meats (especially fish and Chicken).  My snack food is nuts and I like Parmesan crisps with my glass of wine.

Belle, I think it is magnificent that you can actually loose WHILE you cruise.  All my discipline is left on the shore when I step on that ship! I will be getting a lot of exercise right after our TA in 2025. We’ll be in Europe for 6 weeks (Mostly Portugal and Spain) and I bet I’ll be doing a lot of chair pushing up those hills.

Hopeful--Good loss. Yes go easy with the back. Sounds like you're doing

great to make it stronger. The pool must make it easier when you can use it.

Your food sounds good to. Keep up the good work.

You're doing a TA and then staying 6 weeks.? If so wonderful vacation.

Maybe you'll want electric wheelchair for husband with all those hills. You'll be worn out.

No matter what you'll have a great time and be thinner. Win Win

Where's everyone? Come in no matter what,

I'm trying my best in eating less. Haven't done enough walking but have ---

Won Jackpots in the Casino.😄🚢

What brand of granola is it, or do you make it yourself?

I gained a pound this week - but I am still within my "goal range" so it's good. I am working hard at learning to continue eating well along with having the occasional indulgence, but then resume those healthy eating habits that will sustain my weight loss. So far, so good! A personal *win* for me is that I still have a small bowl of chocolate bite-size candy bars left from Christmas sitting on the counter - and I have not eaten one single piece! I know what my trigger foods are, and I know it is best for me to not have any of those. I did make some low-point (WW) "chips" to have with salsa as a snack this evening, pretty tasty!

As far as walking, I have been walking about 15 minutes in our school's gym before work in the mornings. I'm on my feet all morning in the classroom. My 11 year old granddaughter and I have also been taking some short afternoon walks too. It's fun spending time with her! The walks are such short durations that I don't think it really impacts my weight, but I know it's good for me - my A1C was great at last month's appointment. I hope to build back up to where I was last fall, when whatever it was happened right after our cruise. I walked a lot before and during the cruise, took the steps, etc, and felt really great. We had a long drive home after our vacation, and my legs/hips/knees began really hurting. So weird. But it's slowly getting better, and I seem to be tolerating the shorter walks. Little by little, I'll add a few more minutes and hope for the best!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Nice to see everyone is staying on the right path. Sometimes staying the same is an accomplishment.

My cruise was on American Cruise Lines.  Everything during the mishap and compensation  package was geared more towards their benefits than ours. Enough said.

its taken me all week to make the compensation work in my favor  —- the whole episode has left me with PTSD. The compensation involves taking 2 more cruise the first on specific cruises that sail between now and end of May.

thus I’m way off eating properly.  Jazzper is glad to have me home. He’s feeling stronger so we’ve been able to walk 1 mile 2xday. I’ll get back to routine in the next few days.

Good evening - we arrived home this afternoon ... had a wonderful time and enjoyed spending time with family.  My DS unfortunately came home with covid (so far no one else is positive - I will test in a few days).  I did a lot of walking, but also had a few (or more) drinks daily and dessert.

I will weigh myself on Thursday.  Now need to lose weight for our cruise in July to Norway and the Fjords.

Belle - So far I am not sick, so I think I am going to be ok.  Butterscotch is cool.  We've decided that her name will be Maggie (as long as it fits).

All I have done since being home is eat!!!!  Jan

I ordered some and ate it today. It is really good! Thanks.

Glad you like it.  It is my go-to with fruit and yogurt.

Another snack-food name in the event Maggie doesn’t work out is “Crackerjack”.  We went through so many trial names for one of our cats when we got him…”Snickers, Scooter, Perceval (I think that might be the name on his micro chip actually)…we landed on Play Doh (with the emphasis on Doh!).  When we are speaking to him seriously, he is Mr. Doh.  It fits.
