Embarkation Luggage

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if cruisers can transport their own luggage onto the ship.  I will be staying in the Haven complex and will be able to place my carryon into my suite.  I would like to wheel in my main luggage too to avoid worrying about it getting lost.  Have anyone skipped having their main luggage delivered to their cabin by ship workers?

The chances of your luggage being lost are very small. And it by chance your room wasn't ready (has happened before, even in the Haven) you are stuck with all those bags for who knows how long.

the haven folks are really good about having rooms ready as early as possible, but also super accommodating of a passenger dropping a bag off before the room is ready.

You have zero worry about lost luggage.

if you are in the haven complex proper, they may (or may not) let you drop your bags early. If you have a Haven room outside the Haven complex, you will not be allowed to drop your bags, and have to drag them around with you.

You also have to get your bags through the carry on X-ray machine.

Sorry, but I cannot answer the OP's question as I don't have experience with Haven accommodations.

I do feel that  zero worry about lost luggage is misleading. I have previously had a full sized suitcase misplaced for the first four days of my cruise. I have also experienced luggage not arriving to the stateroom until well after dinner and closer to bedtime. I now always carry basic necessities in my carry-on, such as medicines change of clothes, etc...

Hopefully none of the what ifs will occur on your adventure. Safe sailing and enjoy your time at sea.

that hasn't been my experience. only once have i stayed within the inner sanctum,  all other times, i've been on a deck far removed from the haven proper. and i've never had a problem dropping bags.

Yes you can carry on any luggage that will fit through an airline size scanner.  Even if not in the Haven.  We stay in the Haven and bring our luggage onboard.  Never had a problem with putting it directly into our room, most times room ready.   We have sailed 34 times on NCL, and10 times we have received a flier delivered to our room, looking for lost luggage that someone did not receive. to see if it any passenger had it in their cabin.  And that was delivered on day 2 or 3.  So travel at your own comfort level.

I’ll probably check my main luggage and hope for the best, I sailed in a mini suite (now called club balcony suite) once and my daughter main luggage arrived much later in the evening of day 1 of the cruise…it was a nerve racking experience.  We couldn’t relax until her luggage arrived that evening.  Yes I will pack all essential items in my carryon/tote.  Thanks for everyone responses.

They usually have an area for people to drop off their luggage if they carry it on themselves, so they don’t have to drag it around the ship until the room is ready.  On my last cruise it was in the casino, before that it was the comedy club.

On my last NCL Escape cruise in 2019 we were in an Haven Courtyard Penthouse (won upgrade advantage bid) and we were able to drop off our carryons in our room even though it wasn’t fully ready.  I was thinking we could do the same with all our luggage.  That Haven experience spoiled me so now it’s the only way I want to travel/cruise.

On the Bliss when we boarded at 11 they had the rooms ready and said we could drop our bags off, which we did and started enjoying the cruise.

I’ve even dropped bags off outside the haven to save lugging it around.

We had a Haven Spa cabin on our last cruise. We were taken up to the Haven restaurant (Getaway) with our rolling carry on's. A butler came up to us and said your cabin is not ready you can put your luggage in the room if you want. I took both bags, and went down two decks to our cabin. Our room steward was finishing the cabin and I dropped my bags off

Bringing full sized luggage onboard personally, will be an inconvenience for  your fellow passenges.  The large baggage will take up excess space on the already crowded elevators.  The large baggage will be a struggle on the gangways  used to board the ship.

Put an airtag in your bag if  your worried about it.

In late 2022, we had a 2BR Haven suite and were allowed to do this. The cabin steward was in there at the time and got slightly panicked when we opened the door, but when I said we didn't intend to come in and just wanted to drop our bags right inside the door, she looked relieved and told us that was fine. By the time we were done with lunch, we were able to go in and meet our butler.

You can't take full size luggage on, I've seen it attempted

Why not

If your luggage is 24 x 16 it should fit, any larger I won't. Our carry on bags are 22 and they seem to just fit as far as I remember

The luggage I had in mind is 28” lengthwise/height.  The 24 x 16 applies when the luggage lies flat.  The main problem I see is if I can pick up the luggage and place it on the scanner.  I will know the day of the cruise.  I usually carry my own luggage off the ship so the gangways shouldn’t be a problem boarding the ship.

unless your bag is generally considered a "carry on"  (and 28 inches does not qualify), you can not bring it on the ship yourself. you won't even be able to try. you won't be able to get into the security line with it... you will be asked to check it.

Oh well…I guess I better pack only what I am willing to lose in my main luggage just in case it gets lost️Thanks everyone for your responses.

A duffel style bag will fit nicely, though security may not be happy with you because it is so long. 🙂

The odds of your bag being lost are tiny. Maybe 1 or 2 chances out of 6 or 7 thousand bags.
