San Pedro California Parking

Recommended Posts

The last time ,last year ,we parked at the World Cruise Center & the parking lot was a mess . Is there any indications that the port will build a proper parking structure ?  If it did we drive from San diego to board   Princess cruises

 TIA

I don’t think there are any plans to build a parking structure at the port at San Pedro. It is a huge lot with plenty of capacity. We never have a problem finding a space and have been cruising out of LA regularly for 20 years.

Yes, if there are a couple of ships in port it can be busy, especially if you get there during the crossover while people are leaving. But overall it is a very easy and convenient parking area to walk on and off your ship. You just don’t find that at every port. We love it!

We went vthere back in March 2023 & saile B2B on a Celebrity ship . We are handicapped seniors &  where the Celebrity vship was moored it was a night mare trying to load luggage at  the curb . Too many people driving up yo load their  luggage at curb side . just to find my car with the bus ,the driver  of the bus needed my key to find my car  using the beeper on the key .At least here is the San diego port we get a Uber to take us 40 miles to the port & no hassles parking a car

If the world Cruise center was to build a high rise parking structure that would make it so much easier ,Drop off the  luggage  & my wife & then park & I can get back  to the  shops entry to the port with my electric scooter . Trust me handicapped people  have a very hard time with parking at the world Cruise Center . Yes it is a  huge parking area but ,it was very cut up as well .

They’re definitely not planning to do anything about that parking lot. It’s been like that for decades now, with no signs of doing anything with it beyond what there is now. I really think that if they were going to do a multi-level garage it would cause so many MORE problems because where would anyone park in the meantime? Ugh. We’d all end up having to park elsewhere and have a tram bring us in like they did in Long Beach for a while. The problem is that in San Pedro, I’m not sure there’s any other areas for parking that would suffice.

That lot not only serves the cruise ships but also the other vessel(s) that are docked there for tourist tours, like the USS Iowa. There’s a ton of space IN the lot, but the problem is when there’s more than one ship (they try to avoid that), and when everyone wants to offload passengers and luggage before parking. It gets messy, but truly - it’s nothing compared to the parking situation for the Carnival ships just across the bridge in Long Beach. That’s a NIGHTMARE - you’ll sit in your car and actually have to wait in true stop and go traffic just to get to the parking area, much less the insanity while dropping luggage - especially if the ship is late getting back and so there's crossover between cruises. It’s a nicer, cleaner looking lot, but it’s still a mess to get in and out of.

What about if someone (non passenger) drops you off?  Is it easy for them and easy to get to terminal for mobility challenged passenger? Can the driver drop off luggage for passengers?  Can Uber go right to drop off area?

Would greatly appreciate your reply’s.

Yes, drop off is easy - you may have to navigate some line up of cars, but generally not that difficult. Driver can drop off both passenger and luggage and then proceed out of the lot. And yes, Uber, Lyft, taxis, shuttles, and private car transfers all have access.

@Mrcruiser you must have “ hit” the rush in parking at San Pedro last year. I have parked there and been dropped off numerous times and very easy. Who knows what the port will do as far as the parking lot ,but I think it’s working the way it is .so I doubt that they would build a parking structure at this point, but they don’t usually share that information with us cruisers too far in advance. Try it again and cruise & park from berth 92/93.( world cruise terminal)

parking lot is plentiful even with 2 ships in and out over the course of a week or two.

Yes. I am a seasoned citizen and I need assistance from the curb to check-in and check-in onto the ship (requires two different people, two different wheel chairs).

The driver can drop you where the porters are and the porters will come to you usually. Personnel at the curb help arrange a wheelchair and escort for me. I tip both the escorts $10.

Uber can drop off curbside as far as I know. We get rides from our son or daughter.

Times when my son and DIL were coming with, we've never had a hard time at San Pedro finding handicapped parking right up front. This is over about 15 Princess trips, 3 NCL and 3 Celebrity.

Don't get me started on Long Beach (there is a reason they are named Carnival. Embarkation Day is a 3 ring circus. Lots of clowns, no lion tamers).
