llawrence Posted April 8 #1 Share Posted April 8 We are currently on the Summit for a short get away….After 20 + years cruising with Celebrity, we are wondering what is going on. We normally do suites but when they aren’t available we go with Aqua class. No cruise is ever totally bad, but this is getting close… We are in an aqua class mid ship….our Room attendant did not greet us for 10 hours and them only after I found out that we only had one towel, washcloth, hand towel, robe, and slippers for my husband and myself. Our mini bar was missing a number of the expensive items. Could be charged to our sea pass if not reported…The floor was not clean and the tables were not cleaned after the last guests.I really do not like going to guest services but after he cleaned the room and left all the used glassware and did not leave clean glasses, and our wine cooler was left on a table with out a tray and the water from the ice melting leaked on the table, floor, and some items I had purchased. I felt I had to say something…the assistant supervisor for housekeeping came up…said he would take care of it. No problem. This morning when I returned from breakfast…again we have one washcloth….four towels…no hand towels..for two people.. Its hard for us to look at leaving the Celebrity Brand…..New ships or the older ships we have always received excellent service. It looks like the brand is changing. Blu is excellent Casino is so crowded with large slot machines, game tables, and very large chairs…you are literally touching the person in back of you and next to you. Entertainment (first two shows) were just ok… 6
WestLakeGirl Posted April 8 #2 Share Posted April 8 Celebrity has hired one poor room attendant and you are ready to leave the brand? why hesitate to go to Guest Service?, that’s what they are there for. Continue to escalate and you should receive attention from the hotel Director.
llawrence Posted April 8 Author #3 Share Posted April 8 I understand what you are saying……but when I had contact with the assistant to housekeeping, it should have been changed then…..since Covid we have noticed several issues with Celebrity…..we have one more cruise in the cue….will try again. I also know there is a big difference in Suite service and Aqua class but I guess I feel that a cruise line that is known for service should have standards across the board.
miched Posted April 8 #4 Share Posted April 8 We usually sail in AQ and occasionally a suite depending on the price point. I have heard many comments that the suites and AQ get the best room attendants and servers. I don’t know where they get that info. We had some that were rookies. It was their first time ever on a cruise ship. We have had some bad ones but overall they have been good. Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅
Rare RK-NC Posted April 8 #5 Share Posted April 8 There were problems on the sailing prior to yours: I hope things improve for you and everyone onboard and on future Summit sailings. I don't think there is any excuse for an unclean, ill-equipped stateroom. Something is wrong. I will be thinking of you this week.
llawrence Posted April 8 Author #6 Share Posted April 8 Thank for the support….we have always had a few bumps on cruises….but Celebrity always took care of us…..we always try and understand how hard the crew works…but we are talking about basic service . I actually had to step back and ask myself if my expectations are to high.
llawrence Posted April 8 Author #7 Share Posted April 8 After reading the post about the problems the ship had previously…I understand a little more. When we embarked we met a senior officer who looked extremely tired…we asked him if he was alright and he just said he was very tired and just getting back to work…That explains his reactions…Sorry we didn’t read the Summit post before our cruise.

Should we request resumes from the staff to approve their service before we board the ship? I'm not flaming anyone. I just thought 2 different cruise lines, 2 different room attendants, but basically the same problems.
Rare Lena11033 Posted April 8 #9 Share Posted April 8 I had a better room attendant on MSC than I did in AQ last year. But I put it down to my attendant had been stretched based on the partial charter that was on board.

Shouldn't there be a set of towels for each guest? I would assume so, since you pay the same price.

Makes sense to me...but I could see it being missed at times...I wouldn't panic over not having a hand towel myself.

llawrence Posted April 8 Author #14 Share Posted April 8 OXO….I would think so….now in our room we have 1 dirty wash cloth….4 new towels and no hand towels….our shampoo and conditioner are almost empty…1/2 a roll of toilet paper..no extras… This is not the Celebrity I know and love…
hrhdhd Posted April 8 #15 Share Posted April 8 Time to head to GS and request a meeting with the HD. That'll probably get you more results than posting here. 8

Rare RK-NC Posted April 8 #17 Share Posted April 8 @llawrence Have you talked with anyone else with stateroom issues like yours? I agree about requesting a meeting with the hotel director. I think that could be even more successful if a group of passengers made the request.
llawrence Posted April 8 Author #18 Share Posted April 8 I have already talked to the head of housekeeping….I know I can go higher. I always try to work things at at a lower level….first….this time it’s not working…The purpose of this post was to see if other cruisers are having other issues with Celebrity. We have at least 26+ cruises with this line, and are noticing a decline in service since covid….These issues are minor. This cruise lines reputation is built on a step above service…

Apparently they try to get done too quick and hope people will not complain. Too many cabins for a few workers. It sure has changed!
sofietucker Posted April 8 #20 Share Posted April 8 We discovered after a few days on our last cruise that there was a second full set of linens (for the bathroom) under the sink...
buncosquad Posted April 8 #21 Share Posted April 8 After now seeing a few videos on the "cleanliness" (and attrocious reporting of leftover passenger "grooming" habits) in these old(er) ships of the Celebrity fleet, I am happy to have never chosen to sail on them. Not judging others if that is the preference. Having now tried three of the Edge class ships, these appear very different (at least based upon what I read of the old(er) ships in the fleet), in terms of cleanliness and smooth operation. Of course, they are newer. Always a "you get what you pay for."
Rare horseymike Posted April 8 #22 Share Posted April 8 I feel as though the newer ships are getting the first cut when it comes to crew , entertainment, food , etc….. Unfortunately , Celebrity’s business model for the Edge class seems to be heavily tilted towards suite guests with regard to public ares etc…. Those sailing in other categories ( that would be myself) are basically steerage class and treated as such. To stay on point , we did a 4 nighter on the Summit about a year ago and had the worst cabin steward in 25 + years of cruising. We actually sailed on the Summit in 2001 and what a grand ship she was, I guess nothing lasts forever 😔

Celebrity is normally higher in all aspects of cruising than the other Major Cruise Lines such as RCI, NCL, MSC, Princess. So you are paying a price that should give you tops in all aspects. Regardless, if it is a new or old ship, problems can happen. However, again, regardless, if it is a new or old ship the same service should apply. Rare Captain-John Posted April 8 #25 Share Posted April 8 I do have a slight prejudice against older ships myself, but find myself booked for 12 nights on Millenium and 10 on Summit in the next 18 months, so hope my preconceptions and some comments on this thread do not come to fruition. I was on a 13 year old NCL ship that was maintained appallingly, rust, dirty decks, battered cabin, mouldy grouting etc. The Revolution of Millenium and Summit is welcome, but I am expecting if I look in the corners the age and condition of the ships will be more evident.
