Day 3 MDR dinner

While I don't usually care for escargots all that much, I couldn't get enough on this cruise. I don't like them on Princess - I don't care for the flavor, but both RCI and X have the same simple garlic and parsley flavored oil, and I really-really love it. Honestly, it's not the actual escargots I am after, but rather the flavored oil they are in. I soak some of it up with some bread after I am done eating the escargots.

Asian consomme was ok - too gingery for me.

20240401_184356.thumb.jpg.843926c2659a1d42c27256c8fbc9733b.jpg

I got these pork chops because of the polenta. I like polenta. 🙂 The meat was ok.

Nom-nom - great steak.

Trout was great.

My DH loved these Fried Masala potatoes

Spaghetti Bolognese from the kid's menu - outstanding, according to my kid.

Day 4 MDR dinner

20240402_181816.thumb.jpg.885a62cf4371a33f1da51459cb9a19b1.jpg

20240402_181927.thumb.jpg.d74e8b4c069dee19fb00dc5bee65eb7c.jpg

DS ordered a burger and mac'n'cheese from the kid's menu. Oddly enough, mac'n'cheese came with its own side order of fries.

He liked the burger. We had to ask for some lettuce and tomatoes, because, apparently, they are not brought out or added to the burger by default. The bun was enormously tall.

20240402_183918.thumb.jpg.9863c4e86e67cf08de00bd30f8b07e4d.jpg

mac'n'cheese was really good (but very unsalted):20240402_183921.thumb.jpg.9876b237d74ad1cfc15bdd9a22e3201e.jpg

Steak and chips was great! Sauce on the side (even though I didn't want it at all)

20240402_183948.thumb.jpg.ef14cb570d3a526d24c558da51942456.jpg

Branzino was good.

20240402_183956.thumb.jpg.828c0fa06d7afdb229c40cee917b2fd5.jpg

DH luuuurved this couscous cake! It was a main dish, not an appetizer. I tried a little and it WAS wonderful.

20240402_184018.thumb.jpg.cf8b74008b4d5cdc87aa119527a985e7.jpg

Rigatoni was ok. Not spectacular.

20240402_184031.thumb.jpg.0763d7e0bc77ad5a04f671bcf07ef0d9.jpg

20240402_190303.thumb.jpg.e1693da9d4a8d76de46861fe8eea6dd1.jpg

Someone really likes tiramisu. LOL

20240402_191110.thumb.jpg.38beb5919a9a433dbca86bfc108f3bfb.jpg

DS didn't like kiwi sorbet, so I ate it for him. It was very good!

20240402_191113.thumb.jpg.411ab1e9fcf17f19101a435681eff142.jpg

Mmmmmm, creme brulee! I had one almost every evening. There was something magical about theirs - it was warm on the inside, just the right texture and sweetness, and a wonderfully crunchy burnt sugar crust. Yeap, it was amazing!

20240402_191134.thumb.jpg.1efdaa70af870618fcf9dea4fa42213c.jpg

Nobody liked this clafoutis.

20240402_191136.thumb.jpg.1a91cbcf9aa469b922d33bd4e0e304d8.jpg

Strawberry angel food cake was delicate and lovely.

Day 5 MDR Dinner

20240403_181837.thumb.jpg.5167a3bf9f92bee11d85a7d9b3c96532.jpg

From this day on, DS ordered a fruit salad for an appetizer every day. Except that the little stinker didn't eat any of it, so I ate it every day because I am not about to let fruit go to waste. And the fruit was actually great, very ripe and juicy.

20240403_182557.thumb.jpg.ec3452464a508e80c93ffd65cac529e3.jpg

Yum!

20240403_182601.thumb.jpg.20fd2db63e416f7bbad2f4997adc3e8b.jpg

Quinoa salad was fantastic according to my hubs.

20240403_182619.thumb.jpg.f7d390f87abf643d1f65f9ea7cc8fc6f.jpg

DS took one bite of the margherita pizza and noped out.

20240403_184629.thumb.jpg.ec2db578543ce16953e27ab3bb044232.jpg

Got a burger instead.

20240403_184637.thumb.jpg.1598058b35b21c4ce8a108da7ee200fb.jpg

I ordered the Moroccan spiced lamb kebabs, and it was a mixed experience. They were supposed to be medium, but were more like rare, maybe, medium rare at best. I was chewing on raw meat and I wasn't exactly enjoying the sensation. Whatever grain bed they are on was inedible. I did finish all the kebabs... I don't even know why.

20240403_184748.thumb.jpg.1e8cb8a2c42088625dc6e9594c671348.jpg

Seabass was good.

20240403_184801.thumb.jpg.6504fe036e5c8a9931262b7d6d74cf0d.jpg

Mushroom Pappardelle was great! I feel that a lot of people may miss the menu items on the bottom left...

20240403_184854.thumb.jpg.eb3166989a81371cc8f81b3335081807.jpg

Chicken roulade was good, but not something I'd order again. Fork for scale.

20240403_184932.thumb.jpg.fad33004c320749b4e2eba147e356d8e.jpg

20240403_191354.thumb.jpg.55523e6bff93f43a87e7f323a6f3d55a.jpg

Soo good!

good

20240403_192940.thumb.jpg.6700a74e566b4ad8106ffa98266e594e.jpg

This coffee creme pot was splendid! If you love coffee ice cream, you'll love this dessert!

Day 6 MDR dinner

20240404_182130.thumb.jpg.fd0301b51e048555eda832945a458a9d.jpg

Mmmm, no. This broccoli soup was not good.

20240404_184453.thumb.jpg.1fe96147dde73827939d80a3a83ff2c7.jpg

Beef carpaccio was wonderful

20240404_183651.thumb.jpg.287618b4d4f6e702a1e33c78751e8e19.jpg

Fish was good.
20240404_185733.thumb.jpg.2052337769075d17ffa8504bd56250dd.jpg

Chicken Saltimbocca was quite good. But I didn't eat the crust - just the stuff inside.20240404_185717.thumb.jpg.a30616f7438d53ca1dc7b6182bd99bbe.jpg

OMG, these short ribs were so amazing that my husband ordered his own after trying mine. Melt in your mouth goodness!

20240404_185616.thumb.jpg.fa09e8f9f0eadaff20df5ee3ecee0a7c.jpg20240404_185610.thumb.jpg.91f3e05eb67daec0c78cfc72b5fc9b83.jpg

I tried the chicken nuggets after DS rejected them and they were fine. Very soft, not dry, and actually tasted good.

20240404_185606.thumb.jpg.59365c43b02a2422828b3cddc4b6c3b9.jpg

20240404_192317.thumb.jpg.e1b970b47c87fddeeffe26a17176a7a7.jpg

Cherry jubilee was very good, but I wish I tried the full sugar version instead of the no sugar added... I still enjoyed it, but wished they were a bit sweeter.

Ahhh, so good! So delicate.  I wish I ordered two salmon rillettes. I scraped off the onions.

20240405_182623.thumb.jpg.4c3f396650530fc02b63d6efebf811d9.jpg

DH wasn't exactly thrilled with kale salad. He just doesn't care for kale.

20240405_182635.thumb.jpg.ac72ba56ecff03d1d111435417ccd352.jpg

20240405_184501.thumb.jpg.31a6a99c52cbf030713b7d92106835a0.jpg

I ordered surf and turf and enjoyed it. 🙂 The always available steak plus the lobster.

Haddock was good.

20240405_184533.thumb.jpg.0fc8f53bbc65bc74ad31f2aa88edd9c5.jpg

Kid got his usual spaghetti bolognese and it was very good as usual:

Last MDR dinner

20240406_182530.thumb.jpg.e879449f7cbb304f2f892e230c14aecf.jpg

Eggplant caviar was very good, just like my mom makes

20240406_184624.thumb.jpg.ad4dacfe87bb16b9be161777331d716c.jpg

Gumbo was good - sorry, I forgot to take a pic until DH was about half way through his soup

20240406_184628.thumb.jpg.8c6cf60b184038140d33557367b419ec.jpg

20240406_184632.thumb.jpg.7da9eeabb27e9a9972ea676cf98cac4d.jpg

a great little salad

20240406_185317.thumb.jpg.6e53a009ce68f5ae1b9dffca39490da9.jpg

Our waiter assured me that the always available sirloin steak is better than the flank steak, so that's what I got and enjoyed it as usual

20240406_191412.thumb.jpg.cf5038c4f19c12dcf4f09724ecfa8c1f.jpg

Chicken cordon blu was so much better than I thought it was going to be! It was very delicious and juicy.

20240406_191416.thumb.jpg.9912679af6344b49429598bbc7191787.jpg

20240406_191440.thumb.jpg.53305739e23fc98525c85af910979f94.jpg

The biggest disappointment of the night was the substitution of the gnocchi which we all love and couldn't wait to try with tortellini. Ugh. Tortellini and the cheese sauce were good, but we really looked forward to trying Celebrity gnocchi....

20240406_191431.thumb.jpg.2d262b0456db548d105738c50394c5b9.jpg

Tilapia was good.

20240406_191501.thumb.jpg.2946a556335c6462ac735a0b9e92cafd.jpg

20240406_193900.thumb.jpg.cf84747ce9d900b8fdd8ed2f995e8d37.jpg

I ordered the curd... While I liked the taste, I didn't like the texture. I thought it would be smooth like cheesecake or creme pot, but it was grainy.

20240406_195429.thumb.jpg.91af6e53e64e2f1a7076419f8473b4de.jpg

20240406_195434.thumb.jpg.e164a62e172d5e84617958f8ad4b1418.jpg

DS hated the cannoli for some reason. I really liked the filling, so I ate both my cannoli filling and his. But the shell was hard and not tasty, so we left it behind.

20240406_195440.thumb.jpg.f3f39901efa1652d97cafd30b22fbd01.jpg

20240406_195547.thumb.jpg.433f5a22eb18827dcc382fdc5afc5cb1.jpg

I think our waiter asst also brought out the Sacher Tort for me, but I neglected to take a pic. It was good.

This concludes the MDR food section. We were happy with the food. A sommelier came by at the beginning of every meal to offer his services, but we don't drink wine, and anyway, all the alcohol was very expensive onboard. The other tables had better luck - their sommelier spent a lot of time serving wine and other drinks.

We manage well but with work arounds!

Internet blurb..

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) often seems to run in families, and we may hear about scientific studies of an “alcoholism gene.” Genetics certainly influence our likelihood of developing AUD, but the story isn't so simple. Research shows that genes are responsible for about half of the risk for AUD.

Now let's talk about the entertainment. I must say that this was the biggest shock to me. I thought that X catered to a more geriatric crowd, kind of like pre-pandemic Princess.

Princess really stepped it up with more modern entertainment in the last couple of years, but since we'd never been on Celebrity before, I wasn't sure what to expect.

Well, let me tell ya.... I was pleasantly shocked. Most of the music played was from the last 30 years. A lot of it was from the last 10-20 years. Judging by how much teens enjoyed the silent disco, a lot of it was fresh enough for them. They were singing and dancing along to some of the music, so it can't be that ancient, right?

I went to the silent disco for the very first time! I had a blast until my knee had enough. It's not that I am old, it's just that I am unfit. 🙂

I also went to my very first sing along, coz Queen. Who doesn't like Queen? It's a rhetorical question. I can't sing to save my life, but I love Queen, and there were a lot of us shouting the lyrics anyway, so nobody could hear me anyway. I had a terrific time!

The shows were wonderful!

We went to

1) Elysium (started out kind of slow, but after a couple of song/dance numbers it really picked up and became simply amazing! Blending two Sia songs and an Evanescence song was brilliant)

2) comedian Jason Blanchard - very good

3) Broken Strings - a great little musical, except for the very last song which seemed out of place, like it didn't belong in the show

4) Ryan Joyce's magic headliner show was pretty good, but his hypnosis show the next day was on another level. Whisky the dog is just the cutest thing in the world! We saw Ryan several more times walking around the ship with Whisky and always said hi. We love dogs.

5) Broadway Cabaret was great

6) a short Masque dance show in the Grand Foyer. Not as good and definitely nowhere near as spectacular I thought it was going to be. Oh, and it was 10 minutes instead of 20. Dancers were great, it's just the music and choreo that I wasn't all that interested in.

7) Theater production show Euphoria - wonderful!

We didn't go to Paulette Ivory's show because we were tired the first day, but I hear she was fantastic.

We didn't go to the Carole King tribute show.

Full moon deck party looked like fun.

We heard the guitar player a couple of times when he played in the Grand Foyer.  He was good.

I was never able to put the theme together on this one.  There seemed to be no plot to it at all.  Just a bunch of songs thrown together.

The silent disco has been 70's and 80's music the last time I went.  I mean the 70's was the greatest ever and every still loves classic rock and roll.

This dates the cruise as being for an older demographic.

Yes, but it was just one big show, and I am sure some of the songs are timeless. I believe they mentioned using her songs in the Broadway Cabaret show as well, and I knew and liked them.
