One of the most pleasant X boarding experiences.

I arrived at 10:15am at the San Pedro terminal and was onboard and at my cabin at 10:40am.

their was a well marked check in tent. About 60 guests in line. A representative of X opens the entry to the check in clerks at 10:30am (as posted) and after presenting our Passports and sea pass papers we were seated at the entry to the boarding ramp.

Retreat and priority pass guests were called first then Elite and some other qualified guests ( I am Elite+) were called.

I stopped at my muster station on the way to my stateroom on deck 6.

Entered my stateroom and dropped off my things then signed into my Premium WiFi account .

Left my stateroom at 10:40am.

so much better than my last checkin at Valparaiso Chile 3 weeks ago.

My wife and I last sailed on Summit in August of last year from Iceland to Boston and the ship still looks well cared for and modern.

@D. B.Hoping you'll have follow-up reports. We have friends on this cruise and would like to "ride along" vicariously.

Day 2. We were supposed to be able to Tender to Avalon. Santa Catalina Island today . Not. Captain says sea conditions are to rough for Tendering.🙁.

Sun is shining and we are floating around a mile off the Island. We can See it but not Touch it.

I don’t get Seasick under Any conditions and could handle the boat ride but X has to look out for the other 99 percent.

I expect the Activities Team will come up with some  added distractions ?

Last night at the 8:15 guest participation game show “True or False” I won the first round but gave the prize (a nice Celebrity T-shirt) to the 2nd. Place guy. I have a Lot of them.

I like that the evening game show on This ship is at 8:15 pm unlike every other X ship I have been on where it is 8:00pm.

That gives more guests time to get there after the 7:00pm theater show or early dining.

So Onward to our next port. San Francisco. I may be up early for passing under the Golden Gate Bridge.

I wish we could stop at Astoria Oregon as we did on this cruise last year.

The sail in viewed from the Sky Lounge is incredible and Astoria is a Docked port.

I hope you have a very nice cruise! We got off Summit yesterday and it was easy, too.

I’m sorry about missing Catalina Island. I would have been looking forward to that port.

I was looking forward to it.

i used to take a date out to Avalon on Saturday night in the 1960’s to dance to live music in the Iconic Casino building.

It had the most amazing Cork dance floor that helped us from getting tired.

Day 3 of 6….

Yesterday our Stop at Catalina Island was cancelled At 6:30am because the sea conditions were too rough for tendering.

The activities staff immediately rearranged the days Daily Planner. A new Printed D. P.was delivered to every cabin and the App was updated.Like every Sea Day on a Celebrity ship there were Lot’s of things to do.
A pop up session of Bingo was added and was well attended and participants were  enthusiastic as the final game winner received $1290.00!

I happened to be passing through the Casino and decided to make a contribution of $20.00.

Now that all the slot machines I am familiar with have been replaced with the glitzy ones from China I just picked one at random.

after a few spins it turned into a video display of confusion and sound that I must confess I had no sense of what was happening.

When all the animations were over I had won $250.00!👏

Having no intention of giving all of that Back I cashed in and will Not be returning to the Casino on this cruise.😉

Today is Day 3 and is a scheduled Sea Day.

We have been sailing along the California Coast a few miles off shore and went between the coast and California’s Channel Islands

The whole 3 days have been Sunny (there’s a reason 40 million people live here!) but as we go farther North the outside temperature has become what my British friends call “Brisk”

Tomorrow we arrive at San Francisco early for A one day stop.

I live 40 miles from the City so I will probably just get off and walk around a while.

There are a Lot of Tourist things to Do and I hope guests get out and see the sights.

I have been invited to go out on the Helipad for the Sail Away and even though I have sailed out under the Golden Gate Bridge many times in the last 55 years It is still a great Experience.

Day 4 and 5 of 6…..

yesterday we were in San Francisco on a lovely clear (no fog) day !

all the shore excursions took guests to all the best places to visit.

I live 40 miles from here So I just walked to China Town to buy a replacement Suitcase for mine that had a worn out zipper along with other accumulated damage.

As I had received an invitation to go out on the helipad for the Sail Away at roughly 5:15pm I prepared myself for what I knew would be a bright but windy experience.

Being outside as the ship sails out under the Golden Gate Bridge never gets Old. Especially on the bow on the helipad.

Most of us took cellphone Videos and cheered.
Today on day 5 we sailed north past the California coast as the weather got cooler and a stiff breeze chilled those hearty enough to venture outside.

With all the normal Celebrity activities to keep us entertained and occupied it was a good indoor day.

The ship will dock tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm so our time ashore in Victoria BC will be limited as we sail for Vancouver at 10:00 pm.

It seems about 1/2 of the guests aboard are from Western Canada so their trip home will be a short one.

These short Pacific Coast cruises are perfect for a quick cruise experience and make a great first time cruise for those who are not sure if Cruising is right for them.

A lot of the guests aboard are doing B2B’s and will continue on to Alaska.

I have an 11 night Silversea Alaska cruise later this month.

Nice review and congrats on your casino win.  Those shorter west coast itineraries sure beat the 3-4 day Med booze cruises Celebrity is pushing these days.

I am also disappointed about the 3-4 days cruises but I’m sure Celebrity has done its market research and thinks that will bring in the next generation of guests?

It makes me feel good that Summit is in such good shape that it should be around until we both reach our expiration date?

I won $183.00 on Deal or No Deal as the one picked to open the cases.

I have learned to Take the bankers offer after once ending up with $30.00!

This time if I had held out till the end the case I chose at the beginning held ONE Dollar.

Day 6.

Summit was scheduled to arrive at Victoria BC today at 4:00pm.

Then the Captain notified all guests that because of the sea conditions the harbor master has delayed our arrival time to 8:15pm🙁.

So our Time in Victoria will be a little over 2 Hours😏. By the time the ship is cleared for guests to come ashore it will probably be 8:45pm and everyone has to be back onboard by 11:00pm!
All ships excursions have been cancelled and money refunded.

Not much sense in even getting off the ship as the shuttle ( even If it’s Still running) ride to downtown is 20-30 Minutes each way.

I have been to Victoria many time Including our Honeymoon in 1987 But for those who were getting their first ever look at Victoria I hope they can return someday for an entire Day.

That’s a shame although the original port time wasn’t that great to begin with.  Sorry it worked out like that.

Nice recap of the cruise!

The cancellation of Catalina wasn’t about seasickness 😆 there was no way people could safely make it on to the tender boats.

I’m not sure why we even stopped in Victoria, with the late arrival, it made no sense. And the late announcement was also a little strange.

That’s why I said Celebrity has to look out for the Other 99%.
I took this same cruise last year and it stopped in Astoria Oregon. That was a nice port and I wish they would do it again.

Since I was in a "secret" space on Deck 3 playing MahJongg with roll call and FB players, we missed the part about the harbor master being the person responsible for our delayed arrival into Victoria when we went into the hallway to hear the Captain's announcement around noon.

Happy for your win at the casino. I did pretty well with 3 little piggies.

I do wish that port fees were refunded for missing Catalina as was done in the past if a stop had to be abandoned. The random people we spoke to blame Celebrity for missing Catalina and barely docking in Victoria and will likely not book this line again. Lots of lost revenue for RCCL due to zero ship excursions in those ports. That being said, every desk at Future Cruises was filled when we walked by the evening of the 9th!

To bad you put so much stock in “Random People “.

I don’t think anyone could blame Celebrity for Not tendering at Catalina?

The sea conditions were just too rough to do it safely.

The late arrival at Victoria was not just for Celebrity but also for an NCL ship That had to wait outside the harbor and was only allowed to dock just before Summit at 8:00pm. I watched that from the Sky Lounge between 7 and 8pm.

How could That be Celebrities fault?

I hope you find a cruise line that you are comfortable with.

I have 11 future cruises booked with Celebrity as well as 1 each with Silversea, Oceania and one with NCL.

@D. B.

My Comment about random people did not imply I put stock in them, although as an RCCL stockholder it is a tad concerning. Your comment about me finding a cruise line I am comfortable with was an assumption on your part since there was nary a complaint on my part- merely a question about refund of Catalina Island port fees. Did you check my signature before you misinterpreted my post?
Please reread my post carefully and then kindly repost with a less snarky comment, thanks.

Mea culpa for not adequately conveying my appreciation to you for the information you provided re: the harbor master’s decision to delay Summit’s arrival as that was the part of the Captain’s announcement I had missed.

We too were on that cruise on the Eclipse last Fall when it stopped in Astoria. We had a downpour in Seattle while we were walking back to the ship from downtown. No stop in Seattle? Did I miss that?
Thanks for the review! I enjoyed it!
