cbfromjc Posted May 12 #1 Share Posted May 12 Just got off a wonderful 8-day cruise on the Meraviglia out of Brooklyn. Loved the cruise and the ship. We had an exceptionally large inside cabin. However, there was neither a chair or a couch and very little storage. Checked with other people in other types of cabins and it was the same story. We checked with guest services and they said that was done for safety reasons. Does anyone know if this was just for this cruise or just this MSC ship? caribsun Posted May 12 #2 Share Posted May 12 I had a interior cabin 13013 on the Meraviglia , no room for a sofa or chair just a small wooden seat for the vanity.
ready2cruzagain Posted May 12 #3 Share Posted May 12 Never had a chair or couch in an inside cabin on Meraviglia, Seaside, Seashore or Divina. Just off of the NCL Epic and no chair or couch in inside cabin. Most inside cabins I have been in (59 cruises, most in inside cabin) do not have a chair or a couch. There isn't enough room. Princess and Celebrity had chairs but they were tiny, thin and slid under the desk. Definitely not a comfortable chair to sit in.
Rare JamieLogical Posted May 12 #4 Share Posted May 12 I believe for a sofa on the Meraviglia, you need at least one of the deluxe ocean views on Deck 5. On Princess ships, they don't even have sofas in the balconies...

I don't think it will have a couch. I will report back after our cruise. I was also surprised when I booked a balcony room for a Princess cruise that the standard balcony room has no couch. I really do not like the only sitting area to be the bed. At least we have chairs on the balcony to sit in. Maybe there will be enough space to bring one inside the room? One of the reasons I upgrade to a balcony on NCL is to have a couch. mnpurple Posted May 13 #6 Share Posted May 13 Our YC inside on the Euribia had two side chairs and an ottoman/stool that went under the desk area, so a few other seating options.
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 13 #7 Share Posted May 13 Here are two inside cabins on Divina that I took in 2017. One large chair. I did see an OV or two with two of these chairs.

Could it have been a designated handicap accessible cabin? They are often larger and with fewer impediments to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters. Then the safety reasons comment would make sense. caribsun Posted May 13 #10 Share Posted May 13 FYI, there are websites that have pictures and videos of cabins. Look before you book.
heatherb1958 Posted May 13 #11 Share Posted May 13 It isn't a safety issue , it is a cost cutting issue . The lack of a settee/couch didn't bother us on Meraviglia or Bellissima when we had the inside cabin, they just end up being dumping grounds for bags, coats , etc. We found the room to be spacious without one and you only use an inside room for sleeping and showering . Now the Ocean View on deck 8 we had on Virtuosa was teeny compared with the inside cabin on M and B. We had an inside in YC on Grandiosa and quite frankly the added seats and table just got in the way, I moved the table to under the TV and put the seats side by side. I would never book an OV on deck 8 again , I'd rather have the inside cabin .

Yup, no couch in our deck 8 ocean view room. It was categorized as a Junior Ocean View. The ocean view cabins on deck 5 have couches. It drove me crazy because there was enough space for a chair or small couch. I do not like that the only place to sit comfortably is the bed. Plus it is nice to have the couch to put your day bag on when you are getting organized to go ashore. Or just returned back from someplace. I like to keep anything that may have gotten dirty off the bed. I did like that we only had to go down one deck to 7 to pop outside to check the weather and get some fresh air. Rare Essiesmom Posted May 31 #14 Share Posted May 31 Wearer of booking any cabin labeled as junior. They are going to be smaller/tiny. I particularly noticed on Divina and Preziosa they now categorize the cabins in the bumpout area (that does not exist on the first two Fantasia class) as junior insides, OV, balcony…. We had one of the insides on Divina and indeed it was tiny. This was in 2013. EM

We have most frequently cruised with NCL. It was a bit of learning curve figuring out how a new cruise line does things. I was impressed with all the live entertainment. The shows were good and we enjoyed all the talented individuals, duos and bands that played throughout the ship. There was always something going on. We both collapsed on the couch when we got home! I did miss the Freestyle dining on NCL, but we got a table for two after the first night so that we could dine at our own pace even if it was at the same time every day.
