We'll pick this up tomorrow at Eagle Beach and some of the best food I had the entire cruise... I know this "after" review probably isn't nearly exciting as the rapid fire "live" version, but it is what it is... We'll see y'all tomorrow......... I'm enjoying the slower paced review just fine, see you tomorrow.
jhp8 Posted June 4 #629 Share Posted June 4 How clear was the water at eagle beach? Was seaweed a problem?
Frank12 Posted June 5 #630 Share Posted June 5 I can't believe you were on that ship for a week and they couldn't get a decent bottle of tequila for you at the Alchemy. That's insanity. *****? I've had several cruises where I had to pick and choose my bars just to get Bombay Sapphire gin. I don't get it!

With so many people with beverage packages they can save money by being 'out' of the more expensive brands. No Don Jose? Here's Jose Cuervo.

Some people have cruised many lines and it may be their first Carnival cruise (we all had a first cruise). But what’s the judgement? You deserve service before them? Who cares what status you are. In reality all ya get is a “free” lunch and laundry service. Oh and some water…the card colors are stupid. 10 cruises at an interior vs 1 cruise in the presidential suit, who has a higher “status”? Anyhoo, I get the comedy to it but we all had that blue card….or better yet the old fish in the water tropical card. Wish they would go back to that! Now those were some pretty cards. Had a separate room key though if I remember correctly.

It was pretty clear that it was going to be one post to cover the trip, not an individual post at each port. The dog was just wondering what you missed. Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #635 Share Posted June 5 Around the middle of the work day yesterday I started having that classic scratchy feeling in the back of my throat. Over night last night it turned into thick green fleghm and loogies... By the time I got up I had a little bit of a runny nose, but nothing terrible. Looks like just a minor case of the cruise crud likely caught while standing shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of other passengers waiting for disembarkation which was a total disaster... Anyhoo, I feel good enough to work today, and that's good since I don't have any more paid personal days off this calendar year. I'll continue with Aruba as soon as I can get a break here at the 'ol salt mine...

Left alone it could turn into bronchitis. Been there, done that.

Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #640 Share Posted June 5 I'm going to try and knock out a short segment now on the continuation of Aruba. Customers just ruined our entire lunch break. When we left off I had just walked from Eagle Beach up to Palm Beach then took the bus back down to Eagle Beach. I was getting hungry by now, and one of the places I wanted to try was Mama's food truck in the parking lot there. Not so much a truck as just a rickety aluminum trailer. Supposed to be some of the best food on the island, so I was game. I ended up with their grilled fish over rice with a small salad and some fries. They had a few selections of hot sauce, so I dumped some of a couple of different kinds on top and went to the side of the trailer and set my Styrofoam container on a little table and stood up while I ate. This turned out to be the best thing I'd had the entire trip so far. Standing there in the sand with ants crawling on my feet. One of the customers had a little dog who wanted some of everyone's lunch.
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #641 Share Posted June 5 Phone and WiFi not cooperating. Let's try again. Our WiFi here at work is about as bad as ship Internet, or worse.

Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #643 Share Posted June 5 After eating my next goal was to get myself in the clear blue water there. If you remember, I didn't actually get in the ocean the entire Tribe cruise back in January. I found a place to hang my Publix beach bag after asking a couple of people to watch it for me. I know people feel weird about it, but when you're alone you have to figure stuff out sometimes. I headed immediately into the water and stayed a good while.

Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #645 Share Posted June 5 Since I just had my backup phone with me, I took it out in the water to get some pictures. In the first one here you can see my beach bag hanging on the red and white barricade.
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #646 Share Posted June 5 After my skin began to shrivel I got out of the water and found the little foot bath over near the road and dried my feet off so I could put my beach shoes back on. I knew I was going to be walking a good bit more, and I didn't want sand in my shoes. I decided to retrace my footsteps on my 50th birthday here in 2019. This is the exact spot where I dried my feet off after walking across the hot asphalt street. And then the walk over to the little Peruvian restaurant I ate at that day.

Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #648 Share Posted June 5 After the little trip down memory lane I caught the next little bus back towards the cruise ship pier. Went back in board to get a shower before heading directly back out again, this time with my real walking shoes. Checked out some of the little shops around there including the La Casa del Habano where they sell Cuban cigars. I wanted to pick up a box of ten to bring home but the ones I wanted were only in stock in 25 and 50 boxes. The 25 box was $750... More than I was looking to spend, but in hindsight I wish I would've at least bought a few singles to bring home. I don't know when I'll get the opportunity to buy any in the near future. I explored the town there including the fancy resort with the boats that pull right into the hotel. A lot of expensive shops that I have no business going into, so I just window shopped. Truth is I wouldn't want 99% of that stuff anyway. There was a tiki bar on my list of things to do there, so I walked by there but it didn't open until 5:00. Went back to the fancy resort where another one of the places on my list was: LG Smith Steakhouse, supposedly the best steakhouse in Aruba. It didn't open until 6:00, so I just explored some more until the tiki bar opened.
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #649 Share Posted June 5 At this point I had another hour to kill, so I just kept waking. Probably walked at least ten miles this day and it was hot and humid...
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 5 Author #650 Share Posted June 5 My feet were beginning to get tired now, but I still had a bit before the tiki bar opened. I just kept going.
